Objectives

Brochure for a fictitious record label called Nilu Records

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images,
not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and
text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the
image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three
paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.
Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process

First I created the logo in Adobe Illustrator, I found a font I liked then
I created outlines to make it a shape and added more elements to it.
Then I found a contrasting font and added to the logo. I used Adobe
Indesign to create the brochure, I added 4 images that related to the
message, added the logo chose the colors and created the design.

Learned that logos can be simple, that grouping is important and

contrast is very effective.

Description
Objectives

I created a logo for a fictional company named Create & Destroy

Design Studio.
Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company
or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate
existing logos or use previous designs.
Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about
which logo appeals most to them.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No
Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or livetracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with
the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Refine one logo with variations for color

Process

I used Adobe Illustrator to create 3 very different possible logos. I also

used 3 different color schemes. Then I asked for votes to which logo
was the most appropriate. The logo on top was the most voted so I
chose it and improved it.

I learned many useful tools in Adobe Illustrator. I learned that logos

need to be simple, clean, to the point, creative and match the
audience.

to keep links in InDesign intact.

Programs

I Used InDesign to arrange and create elements. Skills learned by

practicing the principles in the book FOCUS, like formulating a plan,
organizing the layout, contrasting the elements, unifying the parts
and finally by simplifying the message.

see details you cant or are not used to.

Business card, piece of stationery I created for a fictious company

called SEA Software Engineer Associates.
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not
imitate existing logos or use previous designs. Dont use photos
or live trace. Use the new logo to design a consistent layout for a
business card.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website,
and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone
number; no parentheses/ hyphens.

Process

I first sketched the company name and logo then the business card.
I then used Adobe Illustrator to create the logo (sea turtle) .Then I
imported my logo to Adobe InDesign and created the business card.
I gathere critique and made final changes to my design

I learned a lot of tools in Illustrator, I really like the program, feel

fairly familiar with it now but there is so much more to learn. I also
learned a lot about gradients, shape and text effects.

called SEA Software Engineer Associates.

Photos are okay as additional design elements. Letterhead should be
8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only .125.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep design simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and
plenty of white space.

I used Adobe Illustrator to create the logo (sea turtle). In Adobe
InDesign I then imported my logo and created the letterhead. I

Photodesign

Description
Objectives

I shot a picture and created a design to prove good photography

and Photoshop skills for a hypothetical company.
Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then
incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on
separate layers for NDE.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements
in Photoshop.

Process

For this project I rented a camera to shoot a picture with

composition, light and focus in mind. Then I used Adobe Photoshop
to make a design. I incorporated the picture I took and a color
scheme of my choice. I gathered critique and made final changes.

I learned the basics of Adobe Photoshop, I learned the basics of

photography. I learned more about colors and the message they
bring.

Description
Objectives

I created this webpage to showcase the logo I created for a fictitious

company called S E A Software Engineer Associates.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how
it appeals to a target audience.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. and CSS
Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.

Process

I created this web page using only TextWrangler. I had never seen
or written any HTML/CSS. It was interesting to see how you could
make a web page by only using a simple text editor. I learned many
styling skills with CSS.
After I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached
a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then used the colors
from my logo as the colors for my web page. I found these colors by
opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I also changed
my fonts to Lora and Lato. I declared some backup fonts just in case
the viewers browser didnt have these fonts. I then changed some
parts of the web design like the width of the copy background, its
color and transparency.

How to translate the designs I want into codes. The thing that took
the longest was to learn to do a feather gradient with CSS.

Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with
multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image

Process

First I brainstormed and sketched ideas. I chose the idea of a stairway

towards heaven. I then gathered images like stairways, people going
up stairs in different angles, people falling, and clouds and star for a
background. Then I began working with Photoshop and its layers and
masks. The hardest part was to blend the elements to create only one
image.

Process

In this project I was only allowed to use a scanned image and Word
to create a fundraiser event flier. I was also expected to focus on color
schemes as sketching and designing.

The thing that stood out the most out of the things I learned is that
Word can be used for much more than words. I was very surprised of
the tool it offered, specially the reorder tool. I also learned that colors
are important and that color schemes are very critical when designing.
