Character Mask

Lord of the Flies

Directions:
Select a character from the list below and create a mask that he would wear on the island. You
may use any materials that you want, but you must have at least 3 significant and meaningful
decorations on each side of the mask, for a total of 6 significant decorations
The outside of the mask will represent the face that your character shows the other boys on the
island. The inside will represent what is going on in the characters head.
An example is a mask for the Littluns that shows fear of the beast on the outside, but fear of
being abandoned and never rescued on the inside.
You will present your mask to the class and go over your significant and meaningful decorations.
Along with the mask, you will write a 1-2 page paper explaining your mask and the choices you
made. This will include cited textual evidence to back up your choices and a work cited page.
MLA format needs to be followed. You may use your Hodgess book, Purdue OWL, and Bib Me
(www.bibme.org) for your citations.
The only required citation is Lord of the Flies, but if you do use any other sources, cite them
using MLA format as well.
You will have work days during the week after Spring Break to complete this project. This will
give you time to have your works cited page checked by me if you would like. I will also be
available to answer any questions you have about the project throughout the week.
