n addition to the five daily prayers, there are a number of optional prayers which can be

recited:

SALAT-AL-ISHRAQ:
Recited 45 minutes after sunrise (according to the Hanafi school of thought) or 20
minutess after sunrise (according to the Shafee school). A person prays between 2 and
12 units of prayers in multiples of 2. It is said that the one who recites this prayer will
recieve 100 merits; 75 merits are rewarded in this world with the remaining 25 in the
hereafter. And the one who continues to recite this prayer will not recieve any hardship
in this world.

SALAT-AL-AWWABIN:
Recited after the Maghrib prayer, this is made up of 6 units of prayer, in multiples of 2
units. It is said that the one who recites this prayer is one of the Awwabin. The word
Awwab means 'the one who submits himself to the worship of Allah by asking for
forgiveness'. Also, this prayer generates 100 rewards, 75 in this world with 25 in the
hereafter; the reciter foes not suffer any hardship in this world.. It is also said that the
one who recites
20 units of prayer between Maghrib and Isha will recieve the reward of a kiosk-place in
heaven.

SALAT-AL-TAHAJUD:
Performed in units of 2, for 6 units of prayer, this prayer begins at the time of Tahajud,
which is 12 hours from the time of the Zuhr prayer. It is said that the one who recites
this prayer will recieve a high ranking in heaven.

SALAT-AL-TASBIH:
Consisting of 4 units of prayer, the prayer format is slightly different. After reciting the
obligatory partys of prayer e.g.when standing we say Surah al Fatiha and some other
verses of the Quran, the person additionally recites "Glory be to Allah, all praise be to
Allah, there is no god by Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and there is no might nor power
except with Allah". This is done 15 times when standing, 10 times when bowing, 10
times when rising from the bow, 10 times in the first prostration and 10 times
after you sit up from the second prostration.

SALAT-AL-SAFAR:
It is said that one should offer 2 units of prayer before departing on a journey, and upon
return from the journey.

SALAT-AL-ISTIKHARA:
This prayer requires 2 units with the intention to ask Allah for guidance in a matter.

SALAT-AL-HAJAT:
Performed in the order of between 4 to 12 units of prayer. In reciting this prayer, during
the first unit, one recites Surah al Fatiha, then recites the verses of the Quran known as
the Ayat-al-Kursi (the Verses of the Throne). In the second unit one recites surah al
Fatiha, and then Surah al-Ikhlas,al-Falaq and an-Nas.

SALAT-AT-TAUBA:
After committing a sin, one should offer 2 units of prayer seeking the forgiveness of
Allah.
