Dear International Students,
You have worked hard to become an ODT student; I sincerely congratulate you on this significant
achievement.
As ODT, we aim to equip you with the highest academic standards and provide you with the
best living and learning environment for your personal development. We will support you in your
efforts to become a well-educated, confident, and innovative leader in the society.
The teaching-learning environment of ODT is rated among the top ones in the university
rankings worldwide. This remarkable standing stems from our highly qualified academic staff,
our select students from both Turkey and abroad, our modern physical infrastructure, rich social
facilities, and our institutional culture that supports learning and production. During your studies
at ODT, your active participation in the social, cultural, artistic, intellectual, and sports activities
will contribute both to your own personal development, and to the enrichment of our university.
We would like you to get acquainted with the academic and social facilities that our university
offers you as soon as possible, and to benefit from them in accordance with your own interests.
To that end, as we have done in previous years, we are organizing orientation programs for
the newly-admitted ODT students. Through these programs you will have an opportunity to
familiarize yourself with the ODT campus, your department and academics; to be informed
about the academic, social, cultural, and sports facilities available to you; and to meet friends
with whom you will spend four years here. We would like you and your families to join us in this
orientation program.
An intensive and exciting period awaits you at ODT. These years that we will be together will
pass very quickly, so it is important for you to live everyday at ODT to the full. Hence, I invite
you to actively participate in the environment of constant learning and production at ODT and
to enjoy the privilege of being an ODT student.

Registration
Registration Place : It will be announced at http://oidb.metu.edu.tr/en/
before the registration dates.
Registration Dates : September 14-18, 2015
Registration Hours : 9:00 12:00 and 13:30 16:30
Classes begin on October 5th, 2015 however, students who cannot come for registration during
the registration period with a valid excuse will have the right to register until October 16th, 2015
at the latest. It is strongly recommended that you come to registration during September
14-18, 2015 so that you have a smoother registration process.
Additionally, after completing your registration you are supposed to take the English Proficiency
Exam held in the Campus in order to be exempt from studying one year English preparatory
school in the Department of Basic English before starting to your undergraduate program.

Access to Campus
If you are arriving at Ankara by plane, from the airport take the BELKO shuttle or EGO airport bus
into the city. The final stop of BELKO shuttle is at AT bus terminal. From AT you can get taxi
or mini blue shuttles called Dolmu which are coming directly at ODT.
ODT Campus is also accessible with public transportation from Kzlay, Ulus and Ayranc
districts.
The main entrance to the ODT Campus is Gate A1 on Eskiehir highway. In addition to A1, the
gates A4 (from 100. Yl district), and A7 (from Bilkent road) can be used to enter and exit Campus.

Registration Procedure
The following documents are required for registration. Please be aware that your registration will
not be completed unless you submit all the required documents listed below.
1. Original Exam Result: Submitted for the application
2. Original High School Diploma
3. Original High School Transcript
4. Equivalence Letter: A letter certifying that your High School Diploma is equivalent to a Turkish
High School Diploma. Please obtain this document before coming for the registration. It can
be obtained from the Turkish Embassy in your country or the National Education Directorates
in the cities of Turkey.) (In Ankara, you can apply to the following address: Ankara l Milli Eitim
Mdrl, MEB Beevler Kamps I Blok Yenimahalle) (In order to apply for this letter, you
should submit your high school diploma, its translation, and your transcript showing all the
courses you have taken in High School, their grades and credit hours.
5. Passport and Its copy: Students with other than a Turkish citizenship should get a Visa
from the Turkish Embassy in their country. During ODT registration, passports should be shown
to the International Students Advisors, and copies of the pages that include identification
information, visa and the page with stamp showing the entry date should be submitted.
Students who have been living in Turkey for at least one year with an Education Residence Permit
should give the copies of their Student Residence Permit. Students who have a diplomatic
passport or a blue card do not need to submit visa or residence permit.
6. 6 Color Photos: 4,5 x 6 cm biometric photos must have been taken in the last 6 months to
reflect your current appearance. Your face on the photo must be clearly visible and recognizable.
You are recommended to bring 12 photos since you need extra photos for dormitory applications.
7. Bank Receipt of the Paid Semester Tuition Fee: Tuition fees are paid to the banks just
before registration. The amount of tuition fees is stated on the following web site http://oidb.
metu.edu.tr/en/tuition-fee-amounts and also available on following pages. Do not pay tuition fee
in your country; it is easily payable on the campus.

Important Explanations
Registration as freshman: Students with an acceptable English Proficiency examination score
such as TOEFL or IELTS or those who have successfully passed the English Proficiency Exam
of ODT will be registered as freshman. These students additionally need to do their interactive
registrations on September 28-30, 2015. Interactive registration dates can also be checked
from Academic Calendar. For more information about interactive registrations, you can visit
the

registrations. You should select the courses online and get your academic advisors approval
during this period of interactive registration.
Students with incomplete registration documents: Registration can only be completed when
you submit all the required documents. If your registration documents are not complete, you need
to bring the missing documents until the deadline of registration period. Deadline for submitting
all documents is October 16th, 2015.
Former ODT students (who have gained the right to register for a new department):
These students must withdraw from their previous department by using program 155 in Student
Affairs Information System before coming for the registration. These students should take their
original documents from the Registrars Office and submit them again for their new registration.
Student ID number: All students have a student ID number. Your number is written on the
acceptance letter you have received from ODT. It will also appear on the ID card you will be
given after registration. This number will be used for all official procedures in your study at ODT.
On Leave status: Students with a valid excuse (e.g. health, study abroad etc.) may be
granted an on leave status provided that the Administrative Board of their Faculty accepts
it (the Chairperson of DBE for students who will follow Preparatory Class, the Chairpersons of
Departments for those who will directly start as a freshman). Students must submit a petition with
a valid excuse and other related documents to their Department. However, the tuition fee should
be paid before making an application for on leave status and the registration process should be
completed. If those students want to secure their place at University dorms, Directorate of Dorms
should be informed about this situation to reserve their rights.
Students, who would like to be exempted from certain courses that have already been
taken: Students who have some courses already taken by them from ODT or another equivalent
university may apply to be exempted from those courses if they meet the English proficiency
requirements. Students should submit a petition about it as well as a transcript to their Department
Chair before the end of the interactive registration period. The grades of such courses are not
counted towards the semester or cumulative GPA until graduation.

English Language Exams

The medium of instruction at ODT is English. All students who wish to carry out their undergraduate
or graduate studies at ODT have to certify their proficiency in the English language.

You must be at the exam place half an hour before.

For students who cannot take the exams on the above mentioned dates due to late registration,
additional exams are scheduled. Information about those exams will be given after registration.
1. English proficiency examination: Students who would like to begin their studies as freshmen
are required to take and pass this exam. Students who obtain 59.5 (69.5 for English Language
Teaching program) or more in this exam can register as a freshman. Successful students will
not study in English Preparatory Class for one year. Students who obtain 85 or above from the
English Proficiency Exam of ODT are exempted with credit (with an AA) from the compulsory
English course ENG 101. Credits and grades for exempted courses will not be counted in the
semesters Grade Point Average (GPA), but will be counted in calculation of the GPA.
2. Placement examination: All students, except for those who have a valid international English
Proficiency exam score and who pass English Proficiency Exam of ODT, will take this exam.
The aim of this exam is to determine the students level of English knowledge and to group
them according to their levels. Students will be placed according to the results of the Placement
examination.
3. International examinations: You may also submit an internationally recognized English
Proficiency Exam result (TOEFL or IELTS) to start your freshman year. The validity of these exams
is two years. You should submit the original exam result during the registration.
4. Former ODT students who have left the University while studying at the Department
of Basic English: Students who registered to the Department of Basic English and who have
failed at the end of one or two academic years or who left the university without completing one

academic year and who get admitted again may register to the Department of Basic English for
one year, for one time only.
5. SUNY programs: English proficiency limits are different for SUNY Programs than for other
undergraduate programs. Minimum scores required for exemption from the English Preparatory
School are: ODTU EPE 65, TOEFL IBT 79 and IELTS 6.5.

Examination Places
Placement examination: It will be held at the School of Foreign Languages buildings. Names and
examination halls will be announced on the Bulletin Boards at the School of Foreign Languages
one day before the exam.
Proficiency examination: It will be held at different buildings at university. Names and places
will be announced on the Boards at the School of Foreign Languages and on the web page one
day before the exam.

Department of Basic English

(Preparatory Program)
The Department of Basic English aims to provide the students whose level of English is below
proficiency level with basic language skills so that they can pursue their undergraduate studies at
our university without major difficulty. To achieve this aim, the department runs a two-semester
intensive program placing emphasis on reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Students are placed in five groups according to their levels of English and have 12, 15, 20 or 25
class hours per week all through the academic year. To be a freshman, they are required not only
to reach a certain level of yearly achievement but also to be successful in the English Proficiency
Exam at the end of the year.
The Department of Basic English, with its lending library, various educational materials and tools,
computer and multi-media facilities, silent study rooms and services on the Internet, offers its
students several educational opportunities outside the class.

Following Registration
After completing your registration you will be issued a Student Identification Card (ID). You will
need this ID card to enter the campus and to use any facility on the campus, such as the library,
computer rooms, swimming pool and other sports facilities.
Following the registration, you will be given a Student Certificate. You are recommended to keep
this certificate since any other student certificate will not be given till interactive registrations.
Those students, whose ID cards are not ready during registration, will use this certificate instead
of ID card until the ID card is ready.
During your stay in Turkey, you have to have a Student Residence Permit. First, fill in the
International Student Information Form during your registration and submit it to the International
Students Advisors. An International Student Information Document about your registration status
will be prepared which will be addressed to the Turkish National Police in Ankara. Visit International
Students Office in about two weeks after your registration to take this document and submit it
to the Turkish National Police/ Foreigners Unit. You should complete your registration within
one month after entering Turkey and must extend the period of your Residence Permit when
it expires. Legal action will be taken against students who do not follow the above mentioned

Tuition Fees
The tuition fee amounts for 2015-2016 Academic Year have not been determined yet by the
ministerial cabinet. When it has been determined, it will be announced at the following page:

It is possible to make tuition fee payments via bank branches located at the Campus. The bank
branches providing this service at the Campus are: Akbank, Is Bank, VakfBank, and Yap Kredi.
Students should state their student ID number when they are making their payment. Please keep
the tuition fee receipt. Approximate tuition fee amounts for the Academic Year 2015-2016 are
listed at the table below.

Important Explanations
The Tuition Fee Office: It deals with tuition fee payments and other related problems. Students
who request refund can consult with this office. (Faculty of Arts and Sciences 2nd Floor)
The tuition fee control in registration program: Data on tuition fee payments is processed
online between the banks and ODT. As soon as students make their tuition fee payments, this
information is received by the registration program. However, students are recommended to
keep the bank receipt. Students, who do not pay their tuition fee or do not pay the total amount,
cannot register, except scholarship students.
Scholarship students (Turkey scholarships, IDB and governmental scholarships) do not pay the
tuition fee. Students who are exempted from tuition fee should submit the related document
when they register. Please be aware that there is no refund for newly registered students
who cancel their registration.

Accommodation
New students may apply for a place in the dormitories as soon as they have completed their
registration. There is occasionally a waiting list for dormitory space. Those who cannot apply
during the registration days can apply by October 23, 2015 to the Directorate of Dormitories (at
Dorm 2 Building/ Base Floor). However, early application is more advantageous. The accepted
students list will be announced on the boards of Directorate of Dormitories and its web page. For

Required Documents for Registration to Dormitories

IS 100 Course
Introduction to Information Technologies and Applications (IS100) is a must course that students
have to take in the first year of their undergraduate education. The aim of this course is to introduce
all ODT students to the basic information technology concepts and applications and make them
both computer and information literate. These basic skills are expected to be used during their
undergraduate studies in their respective disciplines, as well as during their professional lives.
IS100 lectures are mainly conducted online. A number of face-to face classes are also provided
for the students who need more assistance. Face-to-face lectures are given in Computer Center
PC rooms. All the course materials are distributed via METU LMS (https://lms.metu.edu.tr/).

Uzun ve yorucu bir alma dnemi sonunda ODTl olmaya hak kazandnz, bu baarnzdan
dolay sizi candan kutlarm.
Orta Dou Teknik niversitesi olarak amacmz, en stn akademik standartlarda eitim almanz
ve kiisel-sosyal geliiminiz iin en iyi alma ve yaam ortamna sahip olmanzdr. Sizi, kendi
alannda en iyi ekilde yetimi, kendine gvenen, yeniliki, yaratc ve sorumluluk bilincine sahip
liderler olarak topluma kazandrmay hedefliyoruz.

mektupta renci Numaranz yer almaktadr. Bu numara kaydnz tamamladktan sonra sizlere
verilecek olan renci kimliinizin zerinde de mevcuttur. Bu numara ODTdeki reniminiz
sresince her trl resmi ilemde kullanlacaktr.
Kayt dondurma (izinli saylma): Geerli mazereti olan renciler (salk, yurt dnda renim
vb.) tekrar niversiteye dnmek zere kaytl bulunduklar birime bavurarak ilgili Ynetim
Kurulu karar ile izinli saylabilirler (ngilizce hazrlk okuyacak renciler Temel ngilizce Blm

Snav saatinden yarm saat nce snav yerinde bulunmanz gerekmektedir.
Yukarda belirtilen tarihlerde kayda ge gelme nedeniyle snava giremeyen renciler iin
ek snavlar yaplmaktadr. Bu ek snavlarn tarihleriyle ilgili olarak renciler kayttan sonra
bilgilendirileceklerdir.
1. ngilizce Yeterlik Snav: Dorudan programlarnn birinci snfna balamak isteyen rencilerin
bu snava girmeleri gerekmektedir. ngilizce Yeterlik Snavnda baarl olan (minimum 59.50,
ngilizce retmenlii iin minimum 69.50 puan alan) renciler birinci snfa kayt yaptrabilirler.
Snavda baarl olduktan sonra (birinci snfa kayt yaptrmaya hak kazandktan sonra) vazgemek
ve ngilizce Hazrlk snfna devam etmek mmkn deildir. ngilizce Yeterlik Snavnda 85 ve
zeri not alan renciler lisans programndaki zorunlu ngilizce dersi ENG 101den kredili olarak
(AA notu ile) muaf olurlar. Muaf olunan ders iin verilen AA notu ve kredisi rencilerin genel not
ortalamas na katlr, dnem not ortalamas hesabna katlmaz.
2. Seviye Tespit ve Yerletirme Snav: ngilizce Yeterlik belgesi sunan renciler dndaki
tm renciler Seviye Tespit ve Yerletirme Snavna girecektir. Bu snav Hazrlk Snfnda eitim
grecek rencilerin ngilizce dzeylerini saptamak ve bu dzeylere gre gruplandrmak zere
yaplmaktadr.
3. Uluslararas Snavlar: Kabul edildiiniz programa dorudan balamak iin uluslararas
tannrl olan bir (TOEFL ya da IELTS gibi) belge sunabilirsiniz. Bu snavlarn geerlik sresi iki
yldr. Snav sonucunuzu kayt srasnda sunmanz gerekmektedir.

(Hazrlk Program)
Temel ngilizce Blmnn amac, ngilizce bilgisi yeterli dzeyde olmayan rencilere temel
dil becerilerini kazandrarak niversitemizdeki lisans eitimlerini daha kolay sdrebilmelerini
salamaktr. Bu amala okuma, yazma, dinleme, konuma becerilerine ynelik iki dnem sren
youn bir program yrtlmektedir.
renciler ngilizce dzeylerine gre be gruba ayrlmakta ve btn akademik yl boyunca
haftada 12, 15, 20 ya da 25 saat ders grmektedirler. Birinci snfa devam edebilmek iin hem
yl ii program belli bir baarda tamamlamak hem de yl sonundaki ngilizce Yeterlik Snavnda
baarl olmak zorunludur.

Kaydnz tamamlandnda size renci kimliiniz (ID) verilecektir. Kimliinize kampse girerken
ve kampste ktphane, bilgisyar odas, yzme havuzu ve dier spor aktiviteleri gibi herhangi bir
tesis/hizmetten yararlanrken ihtiya duyacaksnz.
Ayrca, kaydnz tamamladnzda size bir renci belgesi verilecektir. Bu belgeyi titizlikle
saklamanz gerekmektedir. Etkileimli kaytlar tamamlanana kadar, tarafnza bunun dnda bir
belge verilmeyecektir. Kimlii kayt esnasnda hazr olmayan adaylar kimlikleri hazr olana kadar
bu belgeyi kullanacaklardr.
Trkiyedeki kalnz sresince renci kamet zni almanz gerekmektedir. Bunun iin ikamet
bilgi formunu doldurarak Uluslararas renci Danmanlarnza veriniz. Yaklak iki hafta
iinde Rektrlk binasndaki Uluslararas renci Ofisine gelerek ikamet bilgi zarfnz almanz
gerekmektedir. (Birinci snf rencilerinin zarflar, ancak etkileimli kaytlar ve danman
onaylarndan sonra verilecektir.) Bu zarf ile birlikte Ankara Emniyet Mdrlne gittiinizde
renci ikamet bavurunuzu yapabilirsiniz. Kaydnz, Trkiyeye giri tarihinden itibaren bir ay

Konaklama
Yeni kayt yaptran renciler yurtta kalmak istedikleri takdirde kaytlarn tamamladktan
sonra bavuruda bulunabilir. Yurtlarda sk rastlanmamakla birlikte odalar iin bekleme
sras oluturulabilir. Kaytlar srasnda bavuruda bulunmayan renciler 23 Ekim 2015
tarihine kadar Yurtlar Mdrlne (2.Yurt/Giri Kat) bavuru yapabilirler. Ancak, bu
bavurulardan ge bavuru puan dlmekte ve bu renciler yurtlara daha ge
yerlemektedirler. Bu tarihten sonra kesin kayt bavurusu alnmamaktadr. Yurda kabul
edilenlerin listesi Yurtlar Mdrl ilan panolarnda ve internet adresinde duyurulacaktr.

IS 100 Dersi
IS 100 (Introduction to Information Technologies and Applications) dersi zorunlu bir derstir ve her
lisans rencisinin ilk ylnda almas gerekmektedir. Dersin amac, her ODT rencisine gerek
lisans eitimi iin gereken almalarnda gerekse i ve kiisel yaamlarnda kullanabilecekleri
temel bilgisayar bilgilerini vermektir.
IS 100 dersi genellikle elektronik ortamda (online) yrtlmektedir. Fakat daha ayrntl ve yz
yze grme ihtiyac bulunan rencilere bu olanak da salanmaktadr. Yz yze dersler Bilgi
lem PC odalarnda verilmektedir. Ders materyaline ilikin ayrntl bilgi METU LMS araclyla
salanmaktadr (https://lms.metu.edu.tr/).
