The Love of Three Oranges 15 (As he says this final line, he turns, and then opens the book to the backdrop of the castle. He claps once to signal the beginning. Chaos as characters begin to emerge from all sides pushing scenery and carrying props, costumes and other actors, bumping into each other in their excitement to begin the show. The three girls, who later play the oranges [in their Act 1 costumes, NOT the oranges outfits], skip across the stage hand-in-hand. Some of the actors preset the frozen KING and PANTALONE and position them for the scene. During the madness, the NARRATOR stops TRUFFALDINO and whispers to him for a moment. He points out TARTAGLIA to him and then the two part, TRUFFALDINO to offstage, the NARRATOR to the audience where he takes a seat to watch. No other character acknowledges the NARRATOR as anything more than an obstacle in their path. They set up for the first scene and clear the stage and the NARRATOR claps to signal {for them to begin.)
