Guidelines for Blind Reviewers

Thank you for agreeing to review this article for ellipsis. We very much appreciate your effort. When
writing your evaluation, please be as candid as possible. Your report is an essential part of the basis
on which a publication decision will be taken by the journals editorial board. While it is not our
intention to restrict how you write your report, experience has shown that the most useful reports
address the following questions:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

How original is the article? What does it add to the field?

Is the article well-structured? Is an intelligible and interesting argument developed?
Are the bibliographical references appropriate? Are any essential references missing?
Is the article accurate? Are any of the facts or assertions made mistaken?
If a theoretical framework is used, is it appropriate and applied intelligently?
How could the article be improved? (This is particularly important in cases where you feel
that the article should not be published in its current form).
7. In cases where you feel that the article cannot be published in its current form, please indicate
whether the basic premises of the article make it unpublishable or whether revisions (which
you should outline) may render it publishable.
Your identity will be withheld from the articles author. However, your report is available to the
editorial board, and extracts from your report will be forwarded to the articles author. With this in
mind, it is more helpful to avoid emotive language while being as honest as possible.
