Junior in Me. Currently, I am actively involved in Purdue electric racing where

we develop a high fidelity serial can bus system for the racecar where I am in
charge of programming. In addition, I also help machine some parts for the
racecar such as joints for chasis
In the past, I worked as a research intern for my professor in FEA where we
conducted stress-strain analysis on robot joint and modeled a new case for
the robot using CATA.
Took a sophomore class in designing and engineering entrepeneruship where
we designed and built a hand powered bottle mixer using AutoCAD and went
through design phase

Want to make technology easy for humans to use, safety is utmost priority ,
foster that trust between human and machine. Power tools, safety important
and ease of use. Since you are looking for someone to develop and
improvement skil products, I think that I can add value for I have experience
in autocad, material selection and design through my participation in purdue
electric racing and sophomore deisng class

Describe a situation where you disagreed with a supervisor?

-S: sophomore design class, desining a hand powered mixer bottle that has a
liner to rotation screw, having our drawings evaluated by the supervisor of
machine shop,
-T: we decided that we 3D print the the screw however we were discouraged
immediately bu the supervisor due to friction of material
-A: we disagreed and explained that 3D printing was a faster and easier
method given the timeline of 2 weeks and to tackle the problem, we sanded
the screw
-R: the 3D print worked perfectly, the sanding made the surface smooth for
ease of linear to rotation
Tell me a time when you had conflict at work?
- S: SI session, student not willing to cooperate
-T: challenging bc student will not partake in the activities I prepared, and while
others were working on them, he would take his laptop out and work on his
homework which is what SI is about
- A: not wanting him to feel left out, I sent one of my regulars to pair up with him
and work on a question together.
-R: reluctant at first but he later on ende up following the activity and turns out he
was just shy and sometime hving someone to work with is easier

Tell me a time when you solve a difficult problem?

- S: sophomore design, we were handed problem definition of creating a device that
can better assist people
-T: task is to come up with a device, down to our final week and yet we havent
gotten far , stuck
-A: the team was newly formed morale down by te deadline and didnt want to
participate in discussion I decided to take charge and lead the brainstorming
session. each of us presented our findings and research and we ranked the ideas
acoording to feasibility and difficulty

-R: we were able to come up with a problem statement and at our final presentation,
we received positive feedback from the public and representatives from gulfstream
and accelor mittal

-S: engr131, assignment was to propose a upcycling project where a product is

anufactured from renewable recycle objects.
-T: it was our final assignment and it affects total grade by 30%
-A: seeing others devising and coming up with devices and product we took a risk
and decided that we should create a campaign which recalls and collects all unused
automobile tires, melts them and sell it as raw material to companies that require
them. We believe that instead of desining a product, a campign like so will be more
profitabile
-R: we won best sustainable design in class

Describe a project or idea (not necessarily your own) that was

implemented primarily because of your efforts.
S: epics, design a kids relay torch for Indiana bicentennial celebration , due to state
laws kids are not suppose to handle fire, so we had to decide an electronic relay torch
T: assigned to brainstorm possible sources of light , LEDs, microcontrollers, wind,
A: I proposed SMD led, its smaller, brighter, easy to implement in a torch, more
powerful, does well with thermal management, and I did a powerpoint
R: it was well received and we ended up implementing it along side with other leds

Do you feel you work well under pressure? If so, describe a time
when you have done so
S: it was my first semester as an SI leader and I was already faced with
working pressure. All my evening exams are scheduled immediately
after my SI session. so it was hard to be recalling equations or
understandinf how things work when you have to teach a class and there
was no way I was going to let my courses interfere with my work.
A: so, due to the arrangement, I made sure I studied earlier before my Si
sessions start I made sure that I prepare earlier than usual. It was

definitely tough at first having to mentally prepare yourself for an exam

immediately after facilitating a session
R: however, I was ble to cope with it quite well and as a result, I was able
to maintain the quality f my grades as well as secure my job as SI

Give me an example of a time when you motivated others.

S: it was the first calc2 test and many of my students expressed how
difficult it was. Many of them were disappointed and bogged down about
their first test. I remember one kid came to me and asked if he should
drop the class.
A: I told him that im not sure, but what I do know is that it is still not too
late to right the wrongs. Its just the first test, it doesnt matter. I told him
to not be perturbed by missteps in life, we all make mistakes, and its by
making mistakes that we learn and improve ourselves. If we end up
repeating our mistakes, thats when we fail.
R:I saw him continuously at my session and at the 2nd test, he told me
that it was the best decision he made to continue the class and he
thanked me bla bla bla
Tell me about a time where you had to delegate tasks during a
project
S: engr132, flight management system using matlab, FMS helps aircraft
crew keep track of passenger, luggae weight, help pilot monitor
coordinates, direction and mpore
T: there were 5 tasks in total with 4 of us in a team.
A: instead of delegating task based on abilities, I decided to assign the
windows according to peoples interest because I believe that its the
passion that drives a person to WANT to work on it. A person might have
the skills needed but if he isnt interested in it, then it means nothing. We

hit some rocks along the way but we helped each other out and seek
feedback from our profesors
R: in the end, our FMS came to a completion and we received full score
Give me an example of when you showed initiative and took the
lead.
- S: sophomore design, we were handed problem definition of creating a device that
can better assist people
-T: task is to come up with a device, down to our final week and yet we havent
gotten far , stuck
-A: the team was newly formed morale down by te deadline, I decided to take

-R: we were able to come up with a problem statement and at our final presentation,
we received positive feedback from the public and representatives from gulfstream

Tell me about a time when you missed an obvious

solution to a problem.

Tell me about your proudest professional accomplishment.

S: it was the second round of interview for the Si position
T: we will required to facilitate a mock SI session where the audience is
made up of a professor, two assistant directors and a student
A: I wanted to wow them and I thought to myself, everyone will be doing
the generic printed work sheet session and I wanted to do something
else, so I decided to create an interactive simulation model on
photosynthesis. So there I was late at night, putting cardport cuts couts
toget on a triboard and making sure a ping pong ball slides down a ramp
smoothly. And as I was making all of this, I thought to myself Jason
youre crazy ,there is not way this will work but I kept on trucking

R: in the end, the model worked and the judges loved my simulation
model and said that iwas one of the most refreshing tings thehave seen.
Ad I gor he poion!!
What are your salary expectations?
If turns out that I am the candidate hired fr this position, I would expect
the hour pay to be $20-$25 per hours, which is average for an intern.
Can you start right away?
I am currently working with a professor on a project regarding smart
materials. It ends on the first week of August. After which I will be
available for the co-op position
Is there anything else I should know about you?
- Play golf and im writing a blog hahaa
Why should we hire you?
- You looking for someone with AutoCAD experience, simuation
modeing and leadership skills. I have all that yo
What are your strengths?
- I think that one of my biggest strengths is that I have the
willingness to learn and I always receive knowledge with an
opened mind. Being a rising mechanical engineer, I make sure that
I immerse myself in projects that isnt necessarily my comfort zone.
I was in EPICS where it demanded more electronics acumen, but I
adapted and I was willing to learn how LEDs works and how
battery management. When I was in PER, besides working on
CADs, I immerse myself in programming where I learnt how to
code in C and my teammates and I successfully reduced weight
and cost of the racecar by 15 and 30 % throught impleentat of can
bus. When I was doing research, I did have any knowledge of

using simulation software, but I was willing to learn and my passion

kept me going. In conclusion, I seem to always immerse myself in
new environemtns but I always succeed ebcausei am willing to
adapt and learn the knowledge and skills to prosper
Weaknesses:
-

I think one area I could work on is my delegation skills. I am always so concerned

about everything being done right and on time that I can get stuck in that mentality
of If you want it done right, do it yourself. Unfortunately, thats not always
possible and Ive realized that I can slow things down if I am too controlling. I
learned this the hard way when I amassed way to many tasks in a group project
for a course and I ended not being able to finish all of them. Luckily the project did
not have a huge impact on the final grade but it was definitely a rude awakening
hence, I signed up for namagement skills traning course on campus and I seek
opportunities where I can practice managing projects for gourps. Learning from
my experience, I was able to delegate tasks in a respectful and productive manner
as my team and I were able to deliver assignemtns on time.

Public speaking is an area I can work on definitely. I tend to get nervous when
asked to present to a large group of people. In small team meetings, Im the first
one to stand up and present. But put me in front of a big group and I can get
flustered. I spoke to my SI assisntat director aobut his and I made it a developlemnt
goal for myself as an SI leader. I decided to take a public speaking class to help me
conquer my fears as will s fulfilling gen eds. In addition, being SI, I have to
promote my session n fonrt of loarge cllassroms so that use that opportunity to
practice my speech and ublick spealing. Till this day, I am constantly seeking
feedback from my audience because I believe I can better improve this

- How do you deal with pressure?

-

Pressure is very important to me. Good pressure, such as having a lot of

assignments to work on, or an upcoming deadline, helps me to stay motivated

and productive. Of course, there are times when too much pressure can lead to
stress;
S: the week before spring break I have 4 exams, 1 presentation, 1 written report
due
A: to make sure that I study for my exams as well as finish homework, I created a
schedule that keeps track of time and made sure that I gave equal attention and
time to my assignments.
Results: I was able to finish the presentation, written report on time and complete
my exams smoothly without any unnecessary stress
