Any 3.x 1 = (3 marks) (b) Description of the: (o) (i Site of the farm: It is sited on the flat topped ridges of Kabanyolo and Kyetume. (2 marks) (ii) Situation of the farm: It is situated 19 kms to the North of Kampala along the Gayaza-Zirobwe road in Nangabo sub-county, Wakiso district. (2 marks) Activities in preparation for the field work study: * A pilot study was conducted on our behalf by the teacher. * We sought permission from the school administration. * We formulated the topic and objectives of study with the help of the teacher. * We designed and discussed the methods to use in the field work. * We selected and obtained the equipment to use e.g. Stationery, base maps, questionnaires, camera, Field compasses etc. + We also made other personal preparations such as organizing some drinks/eats, umbrellas, appropriate footwear etc. Any 4.x 1 = (4 marks) (d) Methods used to collect data: (i) Observation: + We used our eyes to see or look at the features in the field * Looking at features helped us to identify the various features and activities in the research farm e.g. the farm structures, crops grown, animals kept, vegetation types, soil types etc. * Observation also helped us in filling the base map and drawing the panorama i.e, observable features were marked on the sketch diagrams Any 3x1 (3 marks) (ii) Interviewing: * We asked questions about things/information we wanted to find out especially what could not be observed. * We interviewed the Coordinator of Training at the farm, Mr. Bernard Ayebare. * We asked him questions about the historical background, problems faced, benefits, future plans, systems practiced, structure of the farm etc. Any 3x 1 = (3 marks) (c) Problems you faced while gathering information: © Gayaza High School Geography Department Lack of enough equipment such as survey maps, compasses etc. Obstruction of the view of distant features by tall trees 0) © Gayaza High School Geography Department «Noise during interviewing made it difficult for us to hear some of the information being communicated. * It was a large group and the one being interviewed (Bernard) was not audible enough. * There was limited time and therefore the study was carried out in a hurry. * Some places were inaccessible because of bushes and poor/muddy tracks or foot paths. * The hot temperatures followed by the rain shower affected the process of gathering information. * Lack of workers to interview since it was a weekend. * Attack by safari ants disrupted the process of gathering information. + There were instances of language barrier. Any 3x 1 = (3 marks) (i) Major agricultural activities in the research farm: © Growing of annual and perennial crops (Arable farming) such maize, soya bean, fodder crops, bananas, yams, coffee etc. * Horticulture/vegetable growing e.g. lettuces, onions, tomatoes etc. Apiculture i.e. Bee keeping + Fruit farming e.g, oranges, passion fruits, water melons ete * Floriculture i.e. growing of flowers. * Livestock/animal rearing e.g. cattle/dairy farming, goat, sheep, donkey and rabbit rearing etc. «© Piggery farming * Poultry farming. * Fish farming /Aquaculture «Irrigation farming.
