Topic 3: What does the research say about advantages and disadvantages of distance
education?

1. LITERATURE REVIEW:
What does the literature/research say about this issue/topic? By using NAU
Library or Online Search engines, conduct a literature review.

You need to include 5 different sources (book, journal article, web article
etc.) in your review. Try to use current sources as much as possible.

You need to summarize and synthesize your sources by discussing a

Brief Literature Review:

1) Having in mind that the Internet has found its way into daily life and use, both in
various domains of entertainment and business transactions, the use of the Internet
in the education sphere is naturally expected. Namely, in the sphere of education,
the Internet offers a global platform for information storage and its presentation in
textual, visual, graphical or any other form. It also serves as a means of
synchronous and asynchronous communication (Keegan, 2000). Taking into
consideration the above mentioned statements, it is logically expected that online
studies will grow in popularity, and that the network of virtual faculties will keep
spreading in the future. Further to this, Internet education will soon become the
dominant form of education worldwide, which is to reach its peak in a few years.

2) Innovative technologies bring education to a new qualitative level. The usage of
innovative technologies in education evaluate the role of a teacher to a new
qualitative level, thus turning the boring learning process to an interesting and

3) Overall, the findings in this study indieated that the advantages of on-line
learning outweigh the disadvantages, both in gravity and number. Hurt, J.

4) In this study, after consulting the literature, we identified three factors, which
may be less relevant in this geographical location as compared to others in
developed economy where online resources are fully functional. Manhas, P. S.
(2012).
5) E-learning is a technological development based on information and
communication technologies that has the potential to change the way the society
retains and accesses knowledge, the way the society communicates with other
societies or within, but also to transform and restructure traditional models of
higher education. RABOCA, H. M., & CARBUNAREAN, F. (2015).

What is your personal opinion on this issue? Do you agree with the
research? If you agree or disagree, please explain why?

specific methods that you plan to use, etc.
How would you implement this research in your career? (At least 1
paragraph)

Reflection:
In five researches that I review basically says even though there are some
disadvantages of distance education, advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I agree
with this result. I can give an example about my life. I am a Master degree student and I
am doing my master online. I live in Dallas, I work in Dallas and I got acceptance from
NAU where is in Houston for master program. I had two options. First I had to move to
Houston which is impossible under my circumstances or I would join online master
program. I have started online master and I am so happy so far. Even though I have
never talked with my professor face to face, I can send an email or call them any time.
And also I have chance to communicate with my class mates during webinars. It is not
effective as much as face to face communication but it still helping me a lot. So I
definitely believe that distance education is very helpful for some students.
