We have carried out a few fieldtrips in the program. These fieldtrips are also very important
classes which intend to provide the practical experience on Chinas education and culture to
member students.
For better assessment on student performance, the assignment is to write a short essay based on
the knowledge acquired from the fieldtrips.
Students can choose to write on one of the following topics:
1. A general comparison on high school education between China and Indonesia.
2. A brief perception on current high school education condition in China
3. A brief evaluation on Chinas education history and Chinese culture

This trip was conducted by the executive committee SEG-MUK student chapter
and took place from 23rd January to 25th January, 2014. Five undergraduate (1st /
2nd /3rd year) students participated in this trip to peculiar areas that included
Hima cement industry and Kilembe copper mines in Kasese district.

Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry, founded in 1923, is a state-run full-time
general vocational college and the only national demonstrative higher agricultural vocational
college in Jiangsu Province. The campus covers an area of 3,563 mu and the construction area is
more than 400 thousand square meters. It is situated in the national outstanding tourist city
Jurong which locates at the eastern suburb of Nanjing City. The number of students is over
13,000. There are eight departments and 59 majors in this college. Jiangsu Polytechnic College
of Agriculture and Forestry has grown into a comprehensive higher vocational technology
college with its agricultural characteristics. Lu Xin, the vice minister of Ministry of Education,
has encouraged this college to become the leader of agricultural vocational colleges in China.
Faculty Team
There are 697 full-time teachers in Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry. 160
people have associate professor or professor titles, and the number of professors and researchers
is 23. The proportion of double-position teachers has reached to 82.4%. Two expert teachers
acquire special allowance of the State Council, and another one won the first national award for
teaching. Whats more, there are two agricultural vocational education teaching masters, two
higher education teaching masters in Jiangsu Province, and one with the title of Ten Models of
Science and Technology. One person is the young academic leader of 333 project in Jiangsu
Province and five candidates are from this college. Five people are the cultivation subjects of
peak talents. Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry owns one national and
three provincial excellent teaching groups. In 2011 this college is entitled the advanced
organization of construction and management of college faculty in Jiangsu Province by
Education Department.
Experiment and Practice
Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry owns the first and second training bases
with the core area of 5635 mu. It is also the graduate cultivation base of Nanjing Agricultural
University and Yangzhou University. After her inspection, Lu Xin, vice minister of education,
instructs that it is necessary to develop these two training bases into the national agricultural
vocational education research base, the practice base, and the training base for agricultural
vocational college teachers.
The college has built up the agricultural skills contest base for the national vocational college
skills competition. This base hosts all the competition events of the agricultural skills
competition, such as the garden landscape design , new castle disease antibody determination,
plant tissue culture, artistic flower arrangement, animal operation, agricultural machinery repair,
seed quality testing, tea making, agricultural products detection and so on.
Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry has 177 laboratories and training centers
and owns more than RMB 93.32 millions teaching and research equipment. The school library
holds 2.45million books and 596 kinds of newspapers and magazines in both Chinese and
foreign languages.
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, as one of the school's oldest departments, has
accumulated 90 years teaching experience. The faculty team is strong, and the group of wellknown experts are from both inside and outside the province. The number of teachers is 36.
Among them, there are 5 professors, 10 associate professors, 12 doctors, and 20 people with
master's degree. The number of staff with masters degree or above accounts for 88.9%. One
teacher enjoys the special allowance of the State Council. 3 people are the training objects of
Jiangsu Province "333" engineering and two people are among the six peak talents in Jiangsu
Province. There are also one excellent young core teacher of "Blue Project", one provincial
excellent teaching master, and one provincial excellent educator. Now total number of students in
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture is over 1500, and most of the students are high school
graduates.
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture owns three main major directionshorticulture,
agronomy, resources and environment. There are 7 majors. They are crop production technology
(continuing with the undergraduate study after getting the associate degree), crop production
technology, horticultural technology, environmental monitoring and management technology,
urban gardening, sightseeing agriculture, agricultural technology and management, resource
environment and city management.
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture has a large number of advanced facilities. There are
14 training rooms including crop breeding and training center, plant protection training center,
seed engineering training room, molecular biology training room, plant physiology training
room, soil agrochemical analysis room and so on. The construction area of training rooms is
2,000 square meters, and the equipments worth nearly 10 million yuan. This department has
cooperated with Jiangsu Zhongjiang Seed Limited Corporation, one of 50 top enterprises in the
national seed industry, in building up crop production teaching workshop, molecular biology and
seed engineering training room, as well as the intelligent training room for plant growth
regulation. The whole area is 220 acres. These first-class training rooms are equipped with the
domestic leading technologies, such as the plant tissue culture, plant physiology, plant pathology,
environmental engineering, soil and solid waste monitoring and so on. The advanced training
equipment like the photosynthetic apparatus, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, ultraviolet
spectrophotometer, PCR instrument, gel electrophoresis imaging system, gas chromatograph,
liquid chromatograph etc. have been introduced in a large number.
Department of Basic Disciplines

Department of Basic Disciplines consists of four divisions: math, physics and chemistry, English,
ideological and political education, and one English Test Office. It is mainly responsible for the
education of the public basic courses and scientific research tasks. This department has set up the
sites of National College English Application Ability Examination and College English Test
Band (4 & 6). It takes on the responsibility of English test training and registration.
Department of Basic Disciplines owns a strong teaching group in which there are 49 full-time
teachers including 13 with senior professional titles, 21 with intermediate titles and 15 with
primary titles. At the same time it also has a relatively stable part-time teaching team with junior
and senior professional titles.
This department is equipped with various teaching facilities, consisting of advanced speech
classroom, physics laboratory, general chemistry laboratory, analytical chemistry laboratory, and
balance laboratory.
