1. ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS (3 STRUCTURED QUESTIONS) WITHIN 1
HOURS BY SHOWING ALL STEPS IN YOUR ANSWER BOOKLET
CLEARLY.
2. ANSWER MUST BE WRITTEN IN PEN.
3. THE TOTAL MARKS IS 35.
4. THE QUESTION COMPRISES OF THREE (3) STRUCTURED QUESTIONS
(TOTAL MARKS ARE RECORDED ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF EACH
QUESTION), AND

Figure 1
(c).
Figure 2 below shows the velocity of a particle as it moves along the x-axis. Find
its acceleration at A and C.
Figure 2

(d). The position of an object moving along the x-axis varies time as shown in Figure
3 below. Graph the velocity versus time and the acceleration versus time for the
object.
Figure 3

2.
(a).
A ball is thrown vertically upward with a velocity of 20 m/s from the top of a
tower having a height of 50 m (see figure below). On its return, it misses the
tower and finally strikes the ground. See Figure 4.
Figure 4
(i).
What time, t1 elapses from the instant the ball was thrown until it passes the
edge of the tower? What velocity v1 does it have does it have at this time?
(ii). What total time t2 is required for the ball to reach the ground? With what v2
does it strikes the ground?
(b). A man runs at a speed of 4.0 m/s to overtake a standing bus. When he is 6.0 m
behind the door (at t 0), the bus moves forward and continues with a constant
acceleration of 1.2 m/s2.
(i). How long does it take for the man to gain the door?
(ii). If in the beginning he is 10.0 m from the door, will be (running at the same
speed) ever catch up?
(c).
Just as a car starts to accelerate from rest with acceleration 1.4 m/s 2, a bus moving
with constant speed of 12 m/s passes it in a parallel lane.
(i). How long before the car overtakes the bus?
(ii). How fast will the car then be going?
(iii). How far will the car then have gone?
(4, 3, 3)
3.
(a).
In the x direction, the spacecraft has an initial velocity component of +22 m/s and
an acceleration of +24 m/s2 (refer to the Figure 5 below). In the y direction, the
analogous quantities are +14 m/s and an acceleration of +12 m/s2. Find
spacecraft
Figure 5
(i). x and vx, (ii). y and vy, and
(iii). the final velocity of the spacecraft at time 7.0 s.
(b). A ball is thrown straight upward and returns to the throwers hand after 3.00 s in
the air (Ball 1). A second ball (Ball 2) was thrown at an angle 30.0 o with the
horizontal, reaches the same maximum height as the first ball. See Figure 6.
(i). At what speed was the first ball (Ball 1) thrown?
(ii). At what speed was the second ball (Ball 2) thrown?
