TECHNICAL & VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING

(TVET) in Malaysia continues to play an important role
in providing highly skilled labour to fulfil the needs of
industry. In the contect of a rapidly changing global
economic scenario, the development of knowledge &
skills is critical in maintaining the competitiveness of
various industries & sustaining the growth of a country
as a whole. To ensure the continued development of a
skilled & knowledgeable workforce, the SkillsMalaysia
INVITE programme was designed based on the National
Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS). Noss is a framework
developed by the industrys expert which outlines the
core competencies required for a range of occupations.

ii. Lifelong Learning

- Accreditation Prior
Achievement (APA)
Recognition of Prior Achievement (APA)
or formely known as the Accreditation
of Prior Achievement is a method to
give recognition to any individual who
can demonstrate skills outlined in the
National Occupational Skills Standards
(NOSS) based on prior experience &
achievements.

TVET TRAINING APPROACH

i. Competency Based Training (CBT)
TVET in Malaysia is a Competency Based Training
(CBT) which is an approach to vocational training that
emphasises on what a person can actually do in the
workplace as a result of education & training. The criteria
used in the evalution of competencies are clearly stated &
given in advance.

ii. Dual Training System

(Apprenticeship Program)
The apprenticeship program aims to expose apprentices
to actual situations in the industry. Apart from technical
competencies, the NDTS also emphasizes human &
social competencies such as team work, self monitoring,
shouldering common responsibilities & the like.
Approximately 70%-80% of the training is done in the
industry, while the remaining 20%-30% is carried out in
training instituitions, utilizing curriculum develope by the
National Occupational Core Curriculum (NOCC)
