Mother died 1737, father in 1746. Parents are priests. 1732 entered the Collegium Fredericianum, a
protestant college. Strongly ??? Kant called the excessive devotional performance yoke of statutory
ecclesiastical law in contrast of free moral service of good, not entirely worthless discipline of
those fanatics. Mother died from contracting a fatal illness while tending a friend.
1740 entered Konigsberg Univ. Study of math lead him to the conviction of absolute truth and how far
we can proceed with cognition, independently of experience. Hobby: billiard and very good card
player. Left university 1747 due to lack of money.
th

Kant and Women
Schopenhauer jokingly said all great philosophers had remained unmarried Heraclitus, Democritus,
Plato, Zeno, Descartes, Spinoza, Locke, Leibniz, Kant. Socrate married, but it didnt turn out too well.
From the life of Immanual Kant in Art and life ????? by Stuttgart, 1881, pp231-62. His life style is
caricatured in the Man by the clock or the regular man.
Personal appearance: less than 5ft, big head, skinny
Character and personality
Exceptional memory, intellectual power. Watch-word: self-determination ???????????? according to
principles established by reason and not governed by inclination and passions. Intelligence is the
highest power of the soul, and it is a sad thing when the lord and master follows in the wake of the
rabble of the passions. Favorite maxims; Im human, nothing human is foreign to me (Terence). Hold
fast and hold yourself in check, the aim of your endeavors is within you, do not seek it outside
(Persilis). Do not give way to misfortune, but confront it with all the true greater courage (Virgil).
Kant and Art
No artistic sense, dont play musical instrument. Music only arouse emotion and leaves nothing
behind. Like john Locke, who discourages music and poetry.
Islam
1. Practice
Muhammad from Ishmel (eldest son of Abraham), Moses/Jesus from Issac
Islam = self-surrender; Muslim = the self-surrendered one.
Muhammad, born 570 AC in Mecca of father Abdulla and mother Aminah; married at 25 to the 40-yr-old Khadijs;
during the meditation (at 40) through Archangel Gabriel God revealed to him (Koran = revelation) for 23 years.
622 AD Higira to Madinah, a north city 260 miles from mecca, beginning of the Muslim calendar. Returned
after several years, died at 63.
Sunnah practice and example of the prophet
5 components of Islam; 1) Belief in God and Muhammad; 2) dialy prayer (5x); 3). Almsgiving; 4) fasting the
month of Ramdan from dawn to sundown; 5) Pilgrimage to Mecca 12th month of the Islamic lunar year.
Iman = faith; Salah = prayer; Zakah = almsgiving; Sawm = fasting; Hajj = pilgrimage go around the Kabah 7
times, between Hills of Safa and Marina, (as Abrahams wife hagar did in search for water0; then stand on the
plains of Arafat (a desert outside Mecca) praying. Hagjj is ended in festival (???)
2. What does Islam think of Jesus; call Jesus the greatest Gods prophet, confirm virgin birth (3:5?); miracles of
Jesus (3:49); one chapter is titled Mary; Muhammad is just a messenger.
3. How to become one? Profess in mouth, then all sins will be forgiven.
3. However, Islam thinks Jesus was just another prophet who was turned into God by His disciples. Incarnation
is an exaggeration. No one can intercedes and forgive our sinds. Our own conduct determines if we go to
Paradise or Hell
After the court room trial. Salvation comes from self-control and fear of Hereafter. Day of Judgment will come
and each will be tried (34: 3-5). Day of Resurrection (28: 61). There is a Hereafter (life-after-death) (45: 24-25).
Wordly life is a preparation for eternal life (23: 99-104). Consequence of denying life-after-death: the tribes of

Aad, Thamud, Pharoah (69: 4-39).

4. Muhammad in the Bible and prophecies of his advent
1). Blessing of Ishmael and Issac: Gen12:2-3; 17:4;21:13, 18; Deut21:15-17; rights of the first born son is not
affected by mothers social status Gen16:3;21:13 legitimacy of Ishmael and Hagar.
2). Muhammad is like Moses, much more so than Jesus was. Deut18:18, Moses spoke of the prophet sent by God.
3). The Prophet is to come from Arabia. Gen21:21: the wilderness of Paran is the place of settlement for Ishmael
Deut33;1-2 (i.e., Arabia, specifically, Mecca)Isaiah 42:1-13 connects the prophet with Kedar, who is the second
son of Ishmael (Gen25;13). KJ Bible Psalm 84:4-6 mentions pilgrimage via Baca (Mecca) Valley.
4). Migration from Mecca to medina was prophesized: Habakkuk3:3 - Para (Mecca); Isaiah21:13-17 battle of
Badr, defeated mighty men of ke?
5). Koran was foretold in the Bible: John16:13 Jesus mention one who shall not speak of him
Isaiah28:10-11 For with stammering lips Isaiah42:10-11 - sing a new song
6). That Prophet Paraclete Muhammud. John1:19-21 Are you that prophet: No. said John. John14,15,16
Jesus spoke of a Paraclete (comforter) who will come after him.
7). Jesus predict the shift of religious leadership: Mat21:19-21,42,43,44.
8). Therere coincidence taken out of context: Deut33:2(KJV): the prophet will come from Paran (Mecca) with
10,000 saints. This is the number of Muhammads followers who accompanied him to Paran and destroy the
idolatry in Kabah.
9). Islam consider some Biblical stories about prophets as slanderous and does not accept them as true: Lot
committed fornication while drunk; David commit murder;
10). Ouran mentioned 25 prophets. Jews reject Jesus and Muhammad; Christians reject Muhammad; Muslim
believe in all of them.
11). Rejects Jesus Divinity and Divine Sonship.; virgin birth does not make him So of God. The misconception
find a way among his followers because Jesus message was not recorded during his presence but after a lapse of
100 years (?). According to Koran, Jesus was sent to confirm the Torah (61:6); Ouran doesnt believe the Jews
killed and crucified Jesus. He raised to God and will come back.
