Questions:

1. What is the title of the article that you reviewed? (2 pts)

Answer: Systems Engineering and Engineering Management: Keys to the efficient Development of
Products and Services
2. Does the article have a stated research question or problem? That is, can you determine the focus of
the author's work and state the focus? (2 pts)
Answer: The authors focus is regarding the overview of Systems Engineering and the overlapped
differences of the working associated with that of traditional engineering management functions
3. Does the article describe the collection of data, or does it describe and synthesize other studies in
which data were collected? State the method of data collection used. (2 pts)
Answer: The article describes data collection in the form of qualitative research methodologies.
4. Does the article contain a section that outlines and reviews previous studies on this topic? In what
ways is this previous work relevant to the research problem? (2 pts)
Answer: Yes, the article does contain a section which reviews the previous studies on the topic of
Systems Engineering, Where the previous work shows lots of loopholes to the entire research which were
modified later in an updated version. E.g. the product life cycle adapted from Wenzel in 1997 was
developed according to the functional and operational description of the system.
5. If the author explained procedures that were followed in the study, are these procedures clear enough
that you could repeat the work and get similar results? What additional information might be helpful or
essential for you to replicate the study? (2 pts)
Answer: The author clearly explains various working modules of a systems design process, which are
clear enough that if repeated the work can attain similar results. The procedures of the systems design
process followed are, Designing Operational Concept in the initial stage, and getting into developing the
Functional, Physical, Operational architectures and seeking the approval of the Design. If the approval is
rejected at that point, a feedback can be a very helpful additional information to correct the entire design
process while restarting the design process.
6. If data were collected, can you describe how they were collected and how they were analyzed? What
additional things would you have done if you had been the researcher? (2 pts)
Answer: The data collected for the research is a qualitative method where several researchers study
regarding the design of the systems over a period of time and analyze it with respect to various research
experience of the fundamental model. I would have considered the outcome of the research more than
getting the right methodology to produce ideal research.
7. Do you agree with the interpretation of the results? Why or why not? (2 pts)
Answer: The interpretation of the results includes several statistical data, which helps us analyze the
effects of the system design process with that of the present-day problems for the traditional engineering

problems. This research also shows the day of light for the problems of the future and providing apt
solutions to the design process.
8. Is the article logically organized and easy to follow? What could have been done to improve its
organization? (2 pts)
Answer: Yes, the article is logically organized and easy to follow. It could have been put more to todays
knowledge of understanding the systems design process.
9. Finally, reflect over the entire article. (a) What is, for you, most important? (b) What do you find most
interesting? (c) What do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of this article? (d) Will you
remember this article in the future? Why or why not? (4 pts)
Answer:
(a) the most important part of the article is to amalgamate the use of Systems Engineering in Engineering
Management.
(b) The various Exhibits shown in the article are instructive and illustrative for layman knowledge.
(c) Strengths include perfectly organized process flows and weaknesses as I observed were little
discrepancies with respect to content oriented Diagrams.
(d) Yes, I will remember this article in a long time to come. This article has shed light on the unknown
topics of Systems Design in Engineering Management.
10. Cite the article/paper as a reference in APA format. (2 pts)
Answer: Farr, J. V., & Buede, D. M. (2003). Systems Engineering and Engineering Management: Keys to
the Efficient Development of Products and Services. 1-7.
