Effects of Indian Cinema of Pakistani Youth

There is a craze for Bollywood movies that quite exceeds anything we have seen before.
Bollywood has always reflected and promoted Indian culture from this has emerged a
unique ideology called Indian identity. With its massive economic expansion and
international reach Bollywood gained more and more influence on psychological, cultural,
expansion and international reach Bollywood gained more and more influence on
psychological, cultural and many social issues not only in modern India but also elsewhere
around the globe.
Ahsan Akhtar Naz studies the effect of Indian Movies on Pakistani Youth with special
reference to Kashmir issue. To see the effect of Indian movies and feeling of patriotism in
young generation he conducted a survey in which he reviewed the content of those movies
which were released after 2000 and conducted a survey of Pakistani youth as well. From the
results he found that 95.2% Pakistani Youth are not affected by these Indian Movies
propaganda and responded that Kashmir should not be the part of India and that Pakistani
youth is not accepting Indian view point and possess strong patriotic feelings for their
Country Pakistan. (Asif & Arif, 2012)
Indian Cinema mostly tries to portray negative image of Muslims and Pakistani through there
film. After the 9/11 incident, Muslims are being looked as suspicious people and portrayed as
terrorist. Indian film Industry adds fuel to the fire by making a lot of movies on Muslims and
presenting them as terrorists and negatively. Muhammad Ashraf khan and Syeda Zuria decribes
how Indian films are destrying Muslim image for this purpose they caried out a research in which
they did content analysis of 50 Indian movies which were taken out from 350 Muslim-characters
based movies. The overall results of the slants showed 4.4% favorable image, 65.2% unfavorable
and 30.4% neutral images of Muslims portrayed by Indian Cinema. They concluded that Indian
cinema is distroying the Muslim image and creating an anti muslim propoganda internationally. (.
(Asif & Arif, 2012)

In another study, Khadija Asif, andMujtaba Arif says that india movies have both positive and
negative effects on our youth. But if we see the negative effects, such movies create the feelings of over
amititousness to achieve the goals which were accomplished by the favorite character in the movie. Non
fullfillment of these amitions leads to anxity and frustration and depresstion in youth which result in
criminal activities. (Asif & Arif, 2012)
So we can say that India media do have an effect on the image of Pakistani youth, Indian media tries
their best to potray the negative image of Pakistanis all over the world and add fuel to the already
existing misconceptions about Pakistanis and Muslims all over the world.
