CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
Prerequisite(s): Junior standing. This course will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of
industrial supervision. Students will develop the skills, knowledge, and philosophies required to
function in a highly technical, industrial environment in a supervisory capacity. Content includes
a study of leadership, management, management-labor relations, supervisory intuition, and
various legal issues. Course Fee.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
This course will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of industrial supervision. Students
will develop the skills, knowledge and philosophies required to function in a highly technical,
industrial environment in a supervision capacity. Content includes a study of leadership,
management, management-labor relations and supervisory intuition.

COURSE STRUCTURE AND DESIGN
Assessment (consists of quizzes, assignments, and discussions)
Quizzes: There will be one quiz per chapter. Each quiz is worth 25 points each and consists of
multiple-choice, short-answer, and True and False questions. The quizzes are untimed.
Assignments: The assignments and information about the assignments are presented in the
following table. No late assignments will be accepted. Each question set and question, in
addition to substantially answering the question or situation at hand, must be clearly identified,
use proper grammar, be free of spelling errors, concise, original, and easily read. No assignment
submittal shall be longer than 1 page in length. Use the following format: 1 margins, 12 point
Arial font, and indented paragraphs. Submit the assignment via Blackboard in .docx extension
only. The due dates are given below. The assignments are due at midnight on the date listed
Discussions: Three random discussion questions will be presented in the term. Each is worth 5
points. You must participate in each discussion to receive credit. Participation is defined as at
least one (1) comment relative to the question at hand. The questions will be presented on
Monday of each week of the course.

Course Policies
Ground rules for electronic communication:
1. Use e-mail for private or personal messages to the instructor and other students and
questions regarding grades. The discussion board is for general questions, public messages
or discussion board postings. Emails concerning this course must be identified by AMS
430 in the subject heading.
2. Online discussions should adhere to the conventions of on-line etiquette ("netiquette")
which include courtesy to all users. See the web site

3. Please submit papers as Word files with a .docx extension. Other extensions will not be
graded.

GRADING:
You will be able to track your grade points exactly throughout the course. Grades will be based
on the following scale:
A = 90 to 100%, B = 80 to 89.999%, C = 70 to 79.999%, D = 60 to 69.999%, F = below 60
Your final score will be based on the following agenda and weight schedule.
Quizzes (16) = 400 points
Assignments = 175 points
Discussion Board = 25 points
Total Points = 600 points
Example grade calculation: If the student earns 575 total points their final grade would be 95.8%
(an A).
