Founded by Jamshetji Tata, the Tata steel limited is an Indian multinational steel-making
company whose headquarter is in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and a subsidiary of the Tata
group. Tata iron and steel company was established in India by Dorabji Tata on 25 august 1907,
as part of his father Jamshetjis Tata Group. By 1939 it operated the largest steel plant in British
Empire. The company launched a major modernization and expansion program in 1951 later in
1958 the program was upgraded to 2 million metric tones per annum project by 1970, the
company employed around 40,000 people at Jamshedpur, with a further 20,000 in the
neighboring coal mines.
Tata steel has manufacturing operations in 26 countries, including Australia, China, India, the
Netherland, Singapore, Thailand and the United Kingdom, and employs around 80,500 people.
Its largest plant is located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Tata Steel primarily serves customers in the
automotive, construction, consumer goods, engineering, packaging, lifting and excavating,
energy and power, aerospace, shipbuilding, rail and defense and security sectors.

SNTI, ( Shavak Nanavati Technical Institute) the technical training department of Tata Steel, a
pioneer training establishment with ISO 9001-2000 in year 1921. It was the inspiration of
founder of TISCO,let the Indians learn to do things themselves, which came into reality with
establishment of institute. Today SNTI forms an integral part of HR management department of
Tata Steel. It has rendered commendable services in the development of the nation, not only for
Tata Steel but for other public sector steel plants and other manufacturing industries.
