Abstract
The goal of our research is to evaluate the effect of features of the note-taking applications based on their behavior and
learning, in order to develop guidelines for advanced note-taking applications that promote learning. These applications
could be used as the basis for a variety of educational activities, including collaboration. In this paper, we present the
comparison statements between Google Keep and Evernote note-taking applications. We describe potential implications
of these results for the developers of note-taking applications.
Keywords: Evernote, Google Keep, Functional comparison.

INTRODUCTION

Note-taking is the practice of recording information

captured from another source. Here are the comparisons
between the two note-taking applications [6].
Google Keep is a note taking software developed by
Google that has several features which comprises of color
coding notes, inserting images, creating lists, geo-fencing,
shareable notes, and search by color. And also users can set
time or location-based reminders for notes. Hence the
reminders set through Keep are also accessible by other
Google applications such as Google Now. It implies that
Text from images can be extracted using Optical Character
Recognition technology. This, however, works only with
the English language. Voice recordings created through
Keep are automatically transcribed. Google Keep allows
users to convert text notes into checklists [3].
Evernote is a cross-platform, free premium app
designed for note taking, organizing, and archiving. The
app allows users to create a "note" which can be a piece of
formatted text, a full webpage or webpage excerpt, a
photograph, a voice memo, or a handwritten "ink" note.
Notes can also have file attachments. It has a advanced
approach for Notebooks that can be added to a stack while
notes can be sorted into a notebook, tagged, annotated,
edited, given comments, searched, and exported as part of a
notebook [4].

COMPARATIVE STUDY

The comparison between Evernote and Google Keep

note-taking applications is carried out based on the
following factors:
A. Pricing
B. Platforms and ecosystems
C. Organization
D. Rich Media
E. Business features
F. The Champion

A. Pricing
Price strategy is an important issue in business and here
Google Keep is available online and via an Android app.
Both iterations are available for free. And Evernote on the
other hand have Web and app elements that you can use for
free, plus paid premium editions.
Evernote is free for up to 60MB per month of data. The
data cap of the Premium upgrade ($5 per month or $45 per
year) jumps to 1GB of bandwidth each month. It also
provides faster performance, better security, and deeper
search capabilities. Evernote for Business gives IT admins
oversight and control, with additional collaboration
options, for $120 per user per year.
Both the above mentioned note-taking platforms have
free options, so we can't ding any of the contenders for
being overpriced. Thus,we can get to a point that
Evernote's paid versions offer greater functionality through
apps and add-ons [5].

B. Platforms and ecosystems

If you want to capture text, voice notes, pictures, and
webpage on the go, no matter which device is in your hand,
it can be established using note-taking applications. As the
newest platform to join the party, Google Keep also has the
most limited reach, extending only to the Web and
Android.
Though we have heard no official confirmation, but it's
reasonable to expect Google to develop iOS and Windows
Phone versions of the Keep app eventually. For now, Keep
is best for Google-centric users of Google Drive online
storage and productivity tools. On the other hand Evernote
matches Google Keep with Web access, and also provides
native apps for android, iOS, Windows Phone, and
BlackBerry, in addition to dedicated client software for
Windows and Mac OS X. Along with this Evernote has
developed an extensive community and provides a variety
of its own apps as well as third-party apps on its Trunk
website. Evernote is available on more platforms, and it
isn't tethered to any particular brand [5].

handwriting recognition, Skitch lets you mark up images,

Web Clipper and EverClip save webpage, and Hello for
iPhone manages contacts. Here Evernote even saves
handwritten notes and audio from Livescribe Sky digital
pens. Evernote's ecosystem of apps expands its rich-media
possibilities [5].
E. Text editing

C. Organization
Google Keep lets you view notes as either a list or a
grid resembling tidy sticky notes within a browser. You can
also assign colors to notes, but the drawback in using
Google Keep is that you can't order or group notes.
Evernote, on the other hand, use a notebook-and-notes
metaphor. You can create a notebook for a dedicated
topicsuch as Website Project, Summer Vacation, or
Income Taxesand then create multiple related notes
within it. Evernote can be compared with One Note were it
also has the same features as Evernote, which permits one
to group notebooks into Stacks[5]. Evernote allows Business
users can stack professional content within a Business
Library. And it provides more controls for organizing your
information.

Although a note-taking application is not meant to

replace your word processor, it should make your text look
better than a jumble of misaligned characters. For instance,
If you insert a checkbox on Evernote's Android or iOS app,
Evernote automatically adds a checkbox on each line when
you tap Enter [5]. While on the Web version, itb acts in
contrast that, you have to add the checkbox manually at the
beginning of each line; if you try to do it en masse, prepare
for heartbreak.

F. Business features
Evernote Business lets companies to manage its notes
and data related to the business, while allowing individual
users to create and maintain personal notes and notebooks
outside the grasp of the IT admin [5].

Rich Media
Widely note-taking apps are most powerful when you
use them for more than text. While using Google Keep on
the Web lets you add only an image from your PC, on a
note that its Android app allows you to capture a picture or
an audio clip. Keep transcribes the audio to text,
embedding both inside your note Evernote's Web version is
fairly limited, but its mobile apps collect photos, audio
clips, and other files. The main difference comes from
Evernote's ecosystem of aps, which let you do things such
as scan receipts directly to Evernote or convert handwriting
to text. For example, Evernote's Penultimate for iPad offers

Google Keep is nice and simple, but its capabilities are

extremely limited whereas Evernote provides users with a
powerful note-taking platform for free, along with
customization and expanded capabilities through apps and
add-ons. Plus, Evernote's version for businesses is
straightforward and affordable [5].
III.

PRINCIPLES AND COMPONENT

A. EverNote
The basis principles of technical operations is that
provisioning is one part of a life cycle in managing services
which covers only a part of the operational life of a service
[2]
.
Services need to be maintained not just provisioned
(Updated, pruned, patched),

B. Google Keep
(1) Android version
The Google Keep mobile app can be installed on
devices that have been approved by Google with Android
version 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher. Notes can
be created through the mobile app or through the Keep
website and they are synchronized across both platforms
via the user's Google Account [3]. Thus it allows users to
access saved notes anywhere with internet as well as
update notes offline. Google Keep is compatible with
Android Wear. It automatically shows up the top 10 items
in Keep, which happens once an Android wearable is paired
with another Android device,. Users can create new notes
using voice input, add and tick off items on lists, view
reminders and snooze notifications.

Services need to be monitored

Operational component which are responsible for a
function should be consulted with regard to that
function
Example:
Monitoring should be what you consult to see if
something is working
A configuration should be what you consult for
configuration information

(2) iOS version

Google released an iOS version of Google Keep on 24
September 2015 which is applicable for both iPhone and
iPad running iOS 8.0 or later.A advantage of using Google
Keep is that it provides the users to synchronize notes
between devices using a user's Google account which is
very similar to the Android version. Here the application
also features the same photo syncing, voice recording and
reminder options that the Android version uses; the
reminders are delivered across all signed-in devices,
including via iOS push notifications [4].
(3).Chrome OS packaged app version
Google Keep app for Chrome browser and Chrome OS
are one of the early packaged apps provided by Google.
The application can be used while the user is offline for
creating, editing and deleting notes as well as for extra
features such as adding images [10]. The Google Keep
Chrome app also works on Linux operating systems as well
as Windows and Mac, despite Linux not having a native
Google Drive app available.
IV.

User, Accounting, and UserAttributes are accessed via

the UserStore service, whereas the ones on the right are
accessed via the NoteStore service. Each core NoteStore
objects is identified by a globally unique identifier (GUID)
which is assigned by the service when the object is first
created. This identifier does not change for the lifetime of
the object and is used to refer to the object in later API
calls.
Each of these objects also has an update sequence
number (USN) that is changed whenever the object is
modified on the service. Each updated object receives a
new USN whenever a change is committed. The values of
USN are unique and monotonically increasing within an
account, which results in the state where a client can
inspect any two objects in order to determine which was
more recently modified.

CONCLUSION

Both Google Keep and Evernote for Android have the

same functionality when it comes to creating quick notes.
On a fact that, Evernote offers more flexibility for note
types and it has better options for taking photos and OCR,
whereas Google Keep has a better browsing interface.
Hence based on our comparative study between Google
Keep and Evernote. We have come to a conclusion that
Evernote is much superior than Google Keep
