NEWSPAPER GRID
Newspaper pages are laid out on a grid which consists of a margin on 4 sides, a
number of vertical columns, and space in between columns. Newspapers grids
are based on a different number of columns, depending on paper size and
design preference. Common page grids include:
Purpose:
Identity of newspaper.
MASTHEAD
Purpose:
Appear in every edition to give the information
about the publication.
FLAG
Purpose:
Indicate section pages or special pages
FOLIO LINE
Purpose:
The date and page number that appears at the top of
each newspaper page.
HEADLINE
Purpose:
Wrap the story and/or gain reader’s attention
LEAD
Purpose:
Summarizes news and/or grabs the reader’s
attention.
CAPTION
Purpose:
Explains what is happening in a photograph or
illustration
JUMPLINE
Purpose:
Tells the reader on which page the story is continued.
