More than 85% of all people killed in highway work zones are drivers and
passengers, not highway workers. Although traffic fatalities are down
significantly with increased public education efforts and law enforcement, Michigan
experienced 18 fatal work zone traffic crashes and 320 injury accidents in 2009. ATTENTION
The safety of our employees, contractors and motorists is our foremost concern. While
many factors contribute to deadly work zone crashes, driver behavior plays a huge role. We

are asking county motorists to buckle up, slow down, drive sober, pay attention, and at all A WARENESS W EEK
times, drive as if their life depends on it.

M EETINGS
Following is the 2010 Primary Road Sealcoat List by township. Please note that our sealcoat operations will begin in Bedford
Township and move east across the county:

Road Commission personnel and Township Supervisors continue to meet to share township information and ideas
on a proactive plan for Calhoun County’s road system. The meeting schedule is as follows:
Daytime meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the Road Commission Office in
Marshall. The April, July, and October meetings will be held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.,
following the Board of Road Commissioners and Board of Public Works meetings.
Please join us at the April 21st meeting. Sgt. Campbell of the Michigan State Police is tentatively scheduled to
provide information on setting realistic speed limits.

Citizens can now report road problems in Calhoun County via the Internet by going to
www.SeeClickFix.com. Type in the city or zip code and bring up the map of Calhoun County.
Click on “Report an Issue” to enter the road problem and location. Upon completion, your report
will be added to the map, as well as emailed to our office for submittal to our garage.
The Calhoun County Road Commission is now on Facebook! Log on and become a fan of the Road
Commission.
