Form (Forma)
Para formar el pasado continuo se utiliza el verbo auxiliar to be y el gerundio
(infinitivo + -ing) del verbo. El verbo auxiliar to be est en el pasado simple,
pero ten en cuenta que to be es un verbo irregular.

1. Affirmative Sentences (Frases afirmativas)
Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (to be) + gerundio.
Ejemplos:

Jose called while I was watching the news. (Jose llam mientras estaba mirando las noticias.)
He was walking to work when he fell. (Estaba caminando hacia su trabajo cuando se cay.)
Was it raining when you left? (Estaba lloviendo cuando te fuiste?)
2. Se usa el pasado continuo para hablar sobre acciones en un tiempo
especficoen el pasado.
Ejemplos:
Paula wasnt living in Spain in 2005. (Paula no estaba viviendo en Espaa en el 2005.)
We were still working at 10 oclock last night. (Todava estbamos trabajando a las 10 de la noche. )
3. Se usa el pasado continuo para dos acciones que estaban ocurriendo al
mismo tiempo en el pasado.
Ejemplos:
My son was reading while I was cooking. (Mi hijo estaba leyendo mientras que yo estaba cocinando.)
They were talking very loudly while we were trying to watch the movie.(Estaban hablando
muy alto mientras nosotros estbamos intentando mirar la pelcula.)
Nota: Hay unos verbos que no solemos usar en los tiempos continuos. Ver una
lista y explicacin en la leccin de los tiempos continuos de los verbos.
PRONOMBRES ADJETIVOS
1- Adjetivos posesivos
That is her car (ese es su coche)
2- Pronombres posesivos
That car is hers (ese coche es suyo) [de ella]
3- El caso posesivo
That is Maria's car (ese es el coche de Mara)
It's Maria's (es de Mara)

ADJETIVOS POSESIVOS
Como vemos en el ejemplo (1), los adjetivos posesivos, al funcionar como
determinantes, tienen que ir siempre acompaados de un nombre, por tanto,
siempre irn delante de un sustantivo.

En
PRONOMBRES POSESIVOS
Por su parte, los pronombres posesivos, como vemos en el ejemplo (2), nunca
irn acompaando a un sustantivo, sino que aparecern solos, delante o detrs
del verbo.
This book is mine (este libro es mio)
A: My house is very big (mi casa es muy grande)
B: Mine is bigger (la ma es ms grande)

Importante:
No existe pronombre posesivo para it.
Cuidado
femenino.

MUST
MUST = TO HAVE TO: To express obligation or necessity
MUST = TENER QUE (EXPRESA OBLIGACION O NECESIDAD)
Important!
IMPORTANTE!
a. We only use 'must' in the present. For all other tenses we use 'have to'.
SOLO USAMOS MUST EN EL PRESENTE, PARA LOS DEMAS TIEMPOS SE USA HAVE TO
b.MUST is used with the infinitive of the verb.

She must leave immediately. ELLA SE DEBE IR DE INMEDIATO.

Present tense:
a.I must see her tonight. YO DEBO VERLA ESTA NOCHE
b.She must pass her exams. ELLA DEBE APROBAR SUS EXAMENES
c.They must leave before 2 p.m. ELLOS SE DEBEN IR ANTES DE LAS 2.
Simple Past with 'have to':
d.I had to see her last night. YO DEBI VERLA ANOCHE -O- YO TENIA

e.She had to pass her exams. ELLA DEBIO APROBAR SUS EXAMENES

Future with 'will have to':
g.I will have to see her tomorrow. DEBERE VERLA MAANA -O- TENDRE QUE

POSIBILITY
CAN and COULD are used to express :
CAN Y COULD SE USAN PARA EXPRESAR:
-CAPACITY / CAPABILITY CAPACIDAD
-PERMISSION PERMISO
-POSSIBILITY. POSIBILIDAD

Note: CAN and COULD cannot be used in the future. The future is formed with 'will be able to'.
