Export Data from Aspen to Excel

Export Data
Report data can be exported from Aspen to be used in Microsoft Excel. Begin by finding the
appropriate report. You can select a format option for the output in the report options.
1. Select the report you want to generate. This could be a standard report or a Quick Report.
2. Select the appropriate export format:

a. For a standard report, select the Comma-separated values (CSV) option in the Format
drop-down list.

b. For a Quick Report, in Step 6 of the Quick Report wizard, select the Comma-separated
values (CSV) option in the Format drop-down list.

3. The results will appear in a separate pop-up window.

4. From the browser tool bar, click File > Save Page As.
5. Save the file to your computer (Mac):

a. Enter a File name.


b. The default Save As: option is correct. It will
say either ASCII Text or Plain Text. Do not
change the file type.
c. Click Save. Note where you save this file so
you can retrieve it later.
6. Save the file to your computer (Windows):

a. Enter a File name.


b. The default Save as type: is Text
Document. This is correct. Do not
change the file type.
c. Click Save. Note where you save this file so you can retrieve it later.

Open Data File in Excel


1. Launch Microsoft Excel.
2. Open the file (Mac):

a. If the Project Gallery displays, Excel


Workbook is selected by default. Click
Open.
b. From the menu bar, click File > Open.
c. At the bottom of the window, change
the Enable: to All Documents.
d. Locate your export file.
e. Click once on your export file.
f.

Click Open. A multi-step Text Import


Wizard launches.

3. Open the file (Windows):

a. From the menu bar, click File > Open.


b. At the bottom of the window, change
the Files of type: to All Files.
c. Locate your export file.
d. Click once on your export file.
e. Click Open. A multi-step Text Import Wizard launches.

4. Step 1: Select the Delimited radio button.

5. Click Next.
6. Step 2: Select the checkbox for Comma to indicate that the fields are separated by commas.

7. Click Finish.

Save as an Excel File (.xls)


The file that you opened is still a comma-separated value file. To save as an excel spreadsheet, you
need to change the format of the file.

Instructions for the Mac


1. From the menu bar, click File > Save

As.
2. Enter a name in the Save As field.
3. Select a location in the Where field.
4. Change the Format to Excel97-2004

& 5.0/95 Workbook.


5. Click Save.

Instructions for Windows


1. From the menu bar, click File > Save As.
2. Enter a name in the File name field.
3. Change the Save as type: to Microsoft

Office Excel Workbook.


4. Click Save.
