MRI Scan of the Cervical Spine

Neck pain with radiculopathy and weakness.

Technique: Multiplanar high field magnetic resonance images were obtained using fat weighted and water-weighted
sequences.
Comparison: 5/27/2015
Findings:
There is straightening of the normal lordotic curvature of the cervical spine. Vertebral body heights and marrow signal are
within normal limits. The craniocervical junction and cervical spinal cord appear unremarkable.
C2-C3: No disc herniation or stenosis.
C3-C4: Very shallow disc herniation, similar to the prior exam mildly effacing the ventral thecal sac. No significant stenosis.
C4-C5: Central annular tear with a focal, moderate-sized central disc herniation effacing the ventral aspect of the cervical
cord. Mild to moderate central canal stenosis is seen. The previously seen trace high signal within the cervical cord at this
level appears slightly less prominent than on the prior exam.
C5-C6: Disc desiccation with shallow, broad-based disc herniation effacing the ventral thecal sac. Mild central canal and
bilateral foraminal stenosis. Trace high signal within the cervical cord at this level is similar to the prior exam.
C6-C7: Annular degeneration and minimal shallow disc displacement. No stenosis. No change.
C7-T1: Trace disc desiccation. No focal disc herniation or stenosis.
Impression:
1. Focal disc herniations at C4-C5 and C5-C6, similar to the prior exam.
2. Questionable trace myelomalacia in the mid to distal cervical cord appears slightly less prominent than on the prior
exam.

CT Scan of the Cervical Spine

Neck pain with radiculopathy and weakness.

Technique: Multidetector CT images were obtained without infusion of contrast.

Comparison: MRI cervical spine of the same day.
Findings:
Straightening of the normal lordotic curvature of the cervical spine is seen. Vertebral body heights are preserved. Mild disc
space narrowing is seen in the mid to distal cervical spine, better detailed on MRI. The facet joints demonstrate normal
alignment.
The visualized soft tissues of the neck are unremarkable.
C2-C3, C3-C4: No bony stenosis.
C4-C5, C5-C6: Mild disc space narrowing and minimal uncovertebral joint arthropathy. No evidence of bony stenosis.
C6-C7, C7-T1: No bony stenosis.
Impression:
Mild disc space narrowing and uncovertebral joint arthropathy in the mid to lower cervical spine. These findings are better
detailed on MRI of the same day.

X-Ray Exam of the Cervical Spine

Neck pain with radiculopathy and weakness.

Technique: 5 views were obtained.

Findings:
In neutral position, there is normal alignment of the cervical spine and normal lordotic curvature. There is no evidence of
listhesis. Trace anterior spondylotic changes noted at C4-C5 and C5-C6.
In flexion and extension, normal alignment is maintained. Prevertebral soft tissues are unremarkable. Vertebral body and
disc space heights are preserved.
Impression: Normal alignment. Minimal spondylotic change in the mid cervical spine.
