Siemens developed its new generation H-Class
Siemens Gas Turbine (SGT), the SGT-8000H series,
driven by the main goals to reduce emissions and
preserve our environment for future generations.
The 50 Hz version was built and shipped to be
validated at a gas turbine power plant in Irsching,
Germany, where it has demonstrated its capabilities
under real operating conditions. This innovative
gas turbine is characterized by:
efficiency of 40 % in simple cycle operation
low life-cycle costs
high reliability and availability
operational flexibility
low emissions.
The 60 Hz version, SGT6-8000H, is being completed
now its 50 Hz brother is fully validated.

Bernhard Fischer

In actual operation, the

SGT5-8000H has more than
met our high expectations:
During roughly 1,200 hours
of testing in Irsching, Block 4,
we were able to experience
the performance of the worlds
most efficient gas turbine
for ourselves. Expansion
is currently under way to a
combined cycle power plant.
With its commissioning in the
year 2011, it will similarly set
new standards when it comes
to efficiency and output.

Bundled know-how and experience

From the customers point of view

Less complexity for more efficiency

The new, advanced SGT-8000H series

gas turbines and the SCC-8000H series
combined cycle power plants feature bestin-class technology derived from our long
line of large direct-drive Siemens 50 Hz
and 60 Hz heavy-duty gas turbines and
power plants. A highly qualified international team of over 250 experienced
engineers and over 500 employees worked
hand in hand in developing, manufacturing and assembling this new gas turbine.

The advanced technology of the fully

air cooled SGT-8000H series gas turbine
continues our long-standing tradition
of satisfying the needs of our customers
all around the world. We take an evolutionary approach when designing our
new turbines by incorporating proven
features based on the experience gained
with our reliable operating units over
decades. In developing the worlds largest
H-Class gas turbine for unmatched combined cycle efficiency, we combined the
best features of our proven 50 Hz and
60 Hz Siemens heavy-duty gas turbine
product lines with new, innovative technological developments.

To achieve higher operational flexibility for

both the gas turbine and the power plant,
the gas turbine features less complex but
proven technology, including the use of air
cooling over steam cooling for the H-Class.
Air cooling as a design strategy makes the
SGT-8000H series gas turbines an excellent
choice for repowering, as there are no ties
to the steam cycle required.

Pioneering solutions for plant technology

Well-thought-out concepts

Secure long-term productivity

The Siemens Combined Cycle single-shaft

reference power plant has evolved over
the years to be a favorite for combined
cycle power plants in the 400 MW Class
in the 50 Hz world. The first single-shaft
plant with a Siemens F-Class gas turbine
was built in 1997. Based on the large
fleet of existing F-Class single-shaft power
plants and the experience gained from
the Irsching 4 project, the new H-Class
reference power plant SCC5-8000H 1S
was developed.

The primary focus of our Reference

Power Plant (RPP) program is to develop
plant designs that offer high customer
benefit through low life-cycle costs.
Furthermore, the modular concept used
in the RPP program allows easy adaptation to specific customer needs and
site requirements. The combination of
world-class gas and steam turbine and
generator technologies with trendsetting power plant system integration
results in a highly efficient plant that
provides reliable low-cost electricity.

Our plant solutions provide an optimum

balance between capital cost, plant performance, and operational and maintenance
considerations. Pre-engineered modular
options have been developed to further
address individual needs. Plant exhaust
emissions are minimized by the proven
Siemens dry low NOx can annular system.
