Jaya Jaya Jagannath,

Dear Laksmi,

Yogada is any planet aspect/ conjoined Janma lagna and Horalagna and/or Gatika lagna. Here Lagna
shows native himself having Raja yoga or sucsess. For example any planet aspect Hora and/ or Gatika
lagna and transfer that power to 5th lord/ house, (instead janma lagna) native would not enjoy, but his Son
would enjoy the results.

I am forwarding you one of our old discussion, please go through it for Hora and Gatika lagna
Thanks,
Karu

The following pieces are extracted from the book I am currently writing. Read
it carefully, go through the example, work out the exercise given and verify
that you get the answer I gave.
Notation: The degree character () may not come properly on some computers.
Also, 6s 17 45' means "advanced by 6 complete signs, 17 degrees and 45
minutes". It stands for 17 deg 45 min in the 7th sign (Libra). Similarly 10s
13 57' stands for 13 deg 57 min in the 11th sign (Aquarius).

4.2 Hora Lagna

Hora lagna is exactly at the position of Sun at the time of sunrise. It moves
at the constant rate of one rasi per hora (hour). In the rest of this book,
horalagna will be denoted by HL.
If sunrise took place at 6:00 am and Sun was at 6s 447' then, horalagna is at
6s 447' at 6:00 am, at 6s 1947' at 6:30 am, at 7s 447' at 7:00 am, 8s 447'
at 8:00 am and so on. Horalagna moves at the rate of 1/2 per minute (i.e., 30
per hour).
The following method may be used for computing horalagna.
(1) Find the time of sunrise and sun's longitude at sunrise.
(2) Find the difference between the birthtime (or the event time) and the
sunrise time found in (1) above. Convert the difference into minutes.
(3) Divide the number by 2. The result is the advancement of horalagna since
sunrise, in degrees.
(4) Add Sun's longitude at sunrise (in degrees) to the above number. Expunge
multiples of 360 and reduce the number to the range 0360.
(5) This is the longitude of horalagna (HL).
Example 2:
A gentleman was born at 7:23 pm. Sunrise at his birthplace was at 6:37 am on
his birthday. At 6:37 am, Sun was at 2417' in Capricorn. Let us find HL.
(1) 19:236:37=12 hr 46 min=766 min
(2) 766/2=383
(3) Sun's longitude at sunrise is 270+2417'=29417'. Add 383 to it. The
result is 67717'. Subtracting 360, we get 31717'. So HL is at 1717' in
Aquarius.

Exercise 4:
A lady was born at 3:11:48 am (hr, min, sec) in the early hours of May 28,
1961. Sun was at 131' in Taurus then. Sunrise was at 6:19:18 am on May 27,
1961 at her birthplace. At that time, Sun was at 1211' in Taurus. Find the
longitudes of HL and GL in her chart.

4.4 Comments

(3) Some people define sunrise as the time when the center of the visual disk
representing Sun rises on the eastern horizon, i.e., the time when lagna and
Sun are exactly at the same longitude. Some other people consider sunrise as
the time when the upper tip of the visual disk representing Sun rises on the
eastern horizon, i.e., the time when the first ray of Sun is seen. I recommend
the latter approach.

Exercise 4:
HL: 826' in Aquarius.
GL: 1748.5' in Virgo.

Hope these pieces clarified your doubt.

Dear Satish,

Thanks for your analysis on my father-in-laws passing away. After

reading it I have a few questions. You seem to use solar/lunar return

charts.

Solar return charts are extremely useful for precise short-term timing.

1. What are they and how you calculate them ? Is ther eany software that
claculates them.

A solar day is the duration Sun takes to move by 1 degree. One solar days
can be 25 hours and another can be 23 hours, but the criterion is that Sun
should move by exactly 1 degree. Exactly 360 such days make up a solar year.

These Tajaka charts are based on birthday that comes every year/month based
on this solar day reckoning.
If Sun is at 2339'17" in Taurus in a chart, when he enters 2339'17" in
Taurus every year, a new year will start. If you erect a chart at that time
(for the birthplace), it will give insight into fortune in THAT year. There
are special dasas that can be used. There are special aspects and yogas.
Divisional charts are the same, however.
This system is called Tajaka system. These charts are called varsha chakras
(annual charts). Some people call these charts as "varsha phal", which
actually means "results for the year".
Similarly, whenever Sun reaches 2339'17" in any sign, a new month will
start for that person and we can erect a chart to see the fortune during
that month. Similarly, there are dina (daily) and hora (2.5 days) charts.
About software: I suspect most good commercial programs support the annual
chart. I don't know if they use mean or true position of Sun, however. I
don't know if they support all dasas (Patyayini dasa is terrific). I don't
know if they support monthly, hora and daily charts and associated dasas. I
haven't used any commercial software and hence don't know which software

supports what. As some readers know, I use my own software and so I am

ignorant of software programs by others.

2. I noticed that for my wife's chart you calculated the solar return
chart. strting at Mat 22, 1998 1:15 AM. Why this starting time ? (My
wife was born May 21 st 2:30 PM. ?

That was when Sun reached the exact position he occupied at her birth.

3. Where can I buy S. Rath's book 'Crux of vedic astrology. What is

esarpha ( Bad yoga ?) how to see it in a chart ?

Send an email to sagarpu-@... for the book. Sanjay's book

doesn't cover Tajaka. For Tajaka (solar return charts), read Dr. Raman's
book or Summet Chugh's book or Dr. K.S. Charak's book. All are titled
"Varshaphal". Read one of these books for easarpha.
Those who know western astrology can understand ithasala (a good yoga) as an
applying aspect and easarpha (a bad yoga) as a separating aspect.

BTW, Narasimha, are you kindly show how to calculate the Gatika Lagna
as well.

Refer to my previous previous mail on horalagna.

Ghatilagna (GL) is also at the position of Sun at sunrise. While
horalagna (HL) moves by 30 degrees (one rasi) in every one hora (hour),
ghatilagna moves by 30 degrees in one ghati (24 minutes).
To compute GL, follow the same procedure I gave for HL. Instead of
dividing minutes by 2, divide them by 5. Rest of the procedure is the
same.

Dear Karu, there are other versions of calculating the Hora lagna, and these are for other purposes. The
correct method is given by parasara and relies at the time of Sunrise (First limb of the Sun). The
following steps are to be used:1) Time (T)= Birth time - Sunrise
2) Convert the minutes & seconds to decimal places.
3) Hora lagna= Lagna + (T x 30 Deg)
4) Ghatika lagna = Lagna + (T x 2.5 x 30 deg)
5) Bhava lagna = Lagna + (T x 0.5 x 30 Deg)
With Best Wishes,
Sanjay Rath.

Subject: [sjvc] Hora Lagna,

Dear Learned friends,

Thanks, Narasimha for the Hora Lagna calculation.
Now I have a problem with this as I followed another method so far. This is as follow,
and could you kindly tell, what is this ?
Find Ishta kala, if the Lagna is an even sign calculate from lagna and if the lagna is
odd sign calculate from Sun's rashi. From the half of the remaining minites judge the
degree of horalagna.
I may have learned from a wrong book, or it may be stand for some other lagna or some
thing.
( This is not an original book)
Please rectify me.
Thanks in advance.
Karu
