b. What do you currently do for a living?

Chief Privacy Manager at Apple, Software Manager

1. 2008-present

b. How long have you worked for Apple?

i.

9 years

b. What do you do for your occupation?

c. Can you describe what the backdoor is?
i.

The backdoor is a software that we named GovtOS. The FBI is asking

us to create a software that will be able to bypass the encryption and on
an iPhone and access information on that iPhone. This software will work
on any iPhone because the operating system on every iPhone is identical.

b. How long will it take to develop this system?

i.

This system will take a team of developers at least 4 weeks to develop the
program .Then the OS would go to testing for issues, which almost always
comes back positive and then the OS would go back to the developers to
fix. The OS would then go back to the testing for issues and when it has
passed without issues, then it'll be released.

b. What resources would this development take?

i.

This development will take an immense amount of resources on Apples

side. It would require many engineers from Apples core operating system.

It would require quality assurance engineer, a project manager, and either

a document or tool writer. There would also have to be people to support
the main developers on this project.
b. How much of a burden would this put on Apples resources?
a. It will place an immense burden on not only the company, but the actual
employees. These employees will be taken away from their designated duties
and be put to work on this project, which will limit the effectiveness that Apple will
have in solving its own problems and creating its own software. Not to mention
the fact that if these workers are identified to the public, they can be harassed by
those who are seeking to get their hands on the software and use it for nefarious
purposes.
21. And what would happen to this software after the FBI is done with it?
a. Well to be honest, I dont even know if the FBI will ever be done with the
software. They will probably want to keep it to be able to access information if
they ever find an iPhone in the future. Even if they wanted to get rid of it, it could
never be fully destroyed. Even if the program is completely erased from Apples
servers, the programer that created the destroyed code would have spent a lot of
time and energy to solve and delete the code. That entire process could be
reversed and repeated if the code ever got out so therefore the code could never
be fully deleted.
