Potential quality concern for Net Safety Millennium SC1100 Catalytic Bead
Sensors shipped prior to March 1, 2015
Reference Number: 201503261

Our records indicate you received the products affected by this notification as identified in
Appendix A. If you resold or transferred any of the affected products in question, please
immediately forward this important Product Quality Notification to the eventual user so they can
take appropriate action.
Overview
After performing a quality audit, Emerson Process Management has determined that one of the
SC1100 catalytic bead sensors subcomponents had been modified, prompting the need for a
recertification of the sensor. Testing by Emerson Process Management determined that some
sensor step response times had increased outside of published levels as per the CSA C22.2 No.
152 combustible performance standard.
We are proactively communicating this potential nonconformance so we can assist you in
planning and implementing any required corrective actions at your site. Please work with your
local Emerson Process Management sales and service personnel to develop and implement a
corrective action plan that best serves your needs.
Potential Effect
Net Safety is committed to delivering instrumentation solutions of the highest quality and
reliability. It is expected that a portion of the Millennium SC1100 installed base is likely to meet
the step response criterion. However, under particular circumstances, the Millennium SC1100
may provide a slower than expected response to gas releases.
IMPORTANT: Gas sensors are used in many unique applications; each user must determine
the effect of this issue with respect to their application and act accordingly.

How to Determine if You Are Affected

Appendix A contains a list of Millennium SC1100 catalytic bead sensor models that may be
affected by this issue.

Final Action
To verify sensor performance, you can expose a sample population of sensors to a gas
concentration as per the procedure outlined in Appendix B. In the event the sensor does not
perform to the step response, you may choose to do one of the following:
1. Set alarm levels at 40% LEL or below, consistent with preventing false alarms
2. Have the SC1100 sensor replaced
In the event that adjustments to the alarm levels are not feasible and you would like to replace
SC1100 sensors, Net Safety will offer replacements free of charge for those sensors under
warranty. Net Safety will not be responsible for labor or material costs incurred when replacing
sensors. Replacement sensors will be supported for a period of up to twelve months from the date
of this notification.
