INTRODUCTION
This manual gives information about how to install and use the EPLANT-P&ID system.
Other valuable source of information is the Multimedia Tutorial available in the same directory as these
manuals, where a simple project is developed.
1.1
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
EPLANT-P&ID is a computer aided design system for the generation of Process and Instrumentation
Diagrams, Flow Diagrams and to automatically obtain lines, equipments, instruments, valves and fittings
reports from data loaded in the diagrams.
The system is made by a graphic application running on AutoCAD 2004 up to 2016, ZWCAD+ 2012,
ZWCAD+ 2014 SP1, ZWCAD+ 2015 SP2 and a database module in VisualFox.
EPLANT-P&ID allows to easily generating any type of diagrams using a predefined symbol library and
drawing commands. Data loaded into the diagrams are automatically sent to a database module to
generate reports and data sheets. Any graphic modification is automatically transferred to the database
module.
EPLANT-P&ID attains a high degree of consistency in report generation through the project development,
due to the system architecture based on storing the information in one place and referencing it in different
documents.
The system installs a symbol library ready for use. See it in the Appendix A. In any case, the user can
easily change and add new symbols and also transform an existing P&ID drawing into the EPLANT-P&ID
format.

2.3
INSTALLATION FROM CD
To start the installation: place the CD identified as EPLANT Demo / Installation in a CDRom driver. From
the Explorer, select the program Setup.exe.
After selecting the installation language, select from the EPLANT-P&ID menu bar, the Install V 2015.0
option. Follow the indications of the install program. Once the program has been installed, in case this is
the first time EPLANT-P&ID is installed and only if the hard-lock type is Sentinel, the corresponding driver
needs to be installed also. Select from the GENERAL DATA bar the option: Install Driver Sentinel and
follow the instructions.
The EPLANT-P&ID installer copies files to the installation directory and generates shortcuts in the
\Start\Programs\EPLANT-P&ID menu for the Data Base module, the graphic module and for the
documentation. It installs also the tutorial project already done in the \TEST directory nested in the main
installation directory.
2.4
In this case, the installation is done after downloading the pide_2015.exe file and executing it. The
installation is the same as from the CD.
2.5
LICENSE SETUP
There are three different Protection modes to enabling an EPLANT-P&ID license. They are setup from the
Data Base module: System Setup and refer to the Hard-lock type used:
In the case the License Type is set to Local Sentinel, the license file PID_LIC.DAT must be placed in the
main system installation folder. If there are network licenses, this file must contain as many lines as the
number of users. Each line will have each hard-lock serial number and the corresponding Authorization
Code. Every computer used to run EPLANT-P&ID would have the hard-lock attached to it and will need to
install the Sentinel Driver as stated in 2.3.
EPLANT-P&ID
Process and Instrumentation Diagrams and Reports
User Manual
___________________________________________________________________________________
In the case the License Type is set to Local HARDkey, the hard-lock must be connected to the computer
where the system is used. Each hard-lock will enable one license to be used in the local machine.
In the case the License Type is set to Net HARDkey, the hard-lock must be connected to the computer
acting as server and where the system is installed. In this machine the Network License Manager needs to
be running. It is the hkservidor.exe program that can be found in the main system installation flder. In this
case, the number of licenses enabled is stored directly in the hard-lock.
In the case the License Type is set to Web License, the License must be Activated in the computer where
it will be used. With the EPLANT Web License Manager (ep_web.exe in the main installation folder) a
Web License Serial Number must be Registered in the user computer, selecting the License Serial
Number file that must be requested to an EPLANT Distributor or directly to: support@e-eplant.com.
This file is modified during the Registration process and must be sent back to the same EPLANT
Distributor (or to us if a Distributor is not available in your country) for its activation.
The Web License requires an internet connection to work and can be moved to another computer simply
by repeating the registration and sending the file. Moving the license to another machine automatically
disables it in the previously registered one.
2.6
NETWORK INSTALLATION
If the EPLANT-P&ID system is to be used in a network, the easiest option is to install it in a server
directory. This simplifies any system update.
In every computer used to run EPLANT-P&ID the installation directory must be mapped using a letter.
The ep_client.exe program must be run in order to register the server installation directory on each local
machine also. This program can also be used in the case of any change of the main installation directory
(physical or because of a different disk mapping). This program allows to locally change the License Type
also, but limited to the machine running it.
In case of use of the Sentinel model hard-lock, the license file PID_LIC.DAT must be placed in the main
system installation folder and must contain as many lines as the number of users. Each line will have each
hard-lock serial number and the corresponding Authorization Code.
It is convenient to locate project directories in a server disk: different users can be working at the same
time on the same project. In any case, project directories can also be located in a local disk.

In case of opening a drawing file belonging to a project generated with a prevoius EPLANT version, a
dialog box will appear warning that the project is of a previous version. In this condition the graphic
application cannot work and the project must be opened at least once with the data base module in order

It may happen if the EPLANT menu files are changed from the Read Only status in which they are set
during the installation.
If the icons included in the EPLANT toolbars menus disappear at once, it means that AutoCAD
recompiled the EPLANT menu. To solve this problems there are two ways:
-
From an AutoCAD session add the following path the Support Files Searching Path: \eplant\pid\bmp
that is where the icons images are stored.
Delete all EPLANT menu files located in the \eplant\pd folder and having the NMS, NMR, NMC and
CUI extension. Do not delete those with MNU extension.
Open a drawing file on an EPLANT project. This will recomplie the EPLANT menu with its icons.
2.10
EPLANT-P&ID V2015.0 is compatible with the EPLANT-Piping V2015.0. Data extracted from P&IDs can
be directly checked for consistency from the EPLANT-Piping module. The EPLANT-Piping module can
also import P&ID Line definitions.

WORKING METHODOLOGY
3.1
GENERAL CRITERIA
EPLANT-P&ID is software designed to increase the process engineering quality and productivity.
It can do lot of useful things, but for its proficient use, some basic concepts and where the user must take
care are needed to guarantee information consistency.
Being an open system, it allows the user to work with predefined information that can always be modified.
Symbology and other parameters used by the system are easily modified.
In the following chapters, the system basic schema is described.
3.2
PROJECT
EPLANT-P&ID works in files organized in "Projects". A project is a functional unit that allows to associate
the same configuration to a set of diagrams and to automatically integrating the information of all
separated diagrams.
Physically, a project is a directory on any level, with the following structure:
[disk]:\...\[project]\PID The *.DWG files in the PID project directory are considered Process and
Instrumentation Diagrams.
[disk]:\...\[project]\FD In this directory are stored the Flow Composition Tables in XLS format.
[disk]:\...\[project]\DBF_D In this directory the project database files are stored.
[disk]:\...\[project]\DATA_SH
[disk]:\...\[project]\LINK
In this directory the external files linked to project diagrams are stored.
The PID directory need a copy of the \PID\ACAD.LSP system file to automatically load the EPLANT-P&ID
every time a drawing is open in case AutoCAD is used or a copy of \PID\ZWCAD.LSP in case ZWCAD is
used.
The DBF_D project directory contains files with DBF, FPT and IDX extensions: project files have the
project name as prefix. Only DBF and FPT files contain project information, IDX files are automatically
rebuilt if missing.
3.3
PROJECT SETUP
On starting a new project, four configuration files, located in the DBF_D project directory, contain default
settings. To modify this data, the Project Setup option in the Data Base module can be used. See 5.3 for
more details.

3.4
PROJECT SYMBOLOGY
The symbols used by the project are blocks located in the Project Symbology Directory set in the project
setup. These blocks must have a definition according the rules detailed in the 5.3 chapter. Default
symbology installed by the system is shown in Apendix A.
The user can redefine and also define new symbols. In this case, the *.SLD slide files associated to each
symbol must be rebuit.
There is a block used for document referencing placed in the symbolgy directory also. It has the following
structure:
BLOCK
ATTRIBUTE
PROMPT
VISIBLE
WIDTH
USE
PID_DO
C
NDOC
Document Number
YES
25
FLOW_TABL
E
Flow Composition
XLS file
NO
25
The PID_DOC block is inserted in P&ID header with a command in the Utilities menu.
Other special blocks are:
BOX UNF circular box to mark valve tags
CAR VAL rectangular box to mark valve tags
3.5
To generate Data Sheets the system uses the Excel templates stored in the Project Template Directory
set in the project setup. See 5.8 for more details.

4.
GRAPHIC MODULE
4.1
BASIC CONCEPTS
Opening AutoCAD from a drawing file placed in the \PID project directory, the EPLANT-P&ID graphic
module is automatically loaded with messages about the system environment being set. The standard
AutoCAD menu is modified adding two new bars: PID and PID Utilities.
To enable this automatic loading, a copy of the system ACAD.LSP file must be present in the \PID project
directory in case using AutoCAD or a copy of the system ZWCAD.LSP in case using ZWCAD. The data
base module makes provision for that every time it is run.
It is convenient to to create a new drawing file from the prototype drawing \PID\PID.DWG located in the
main system directory.
In P&ID drawings, each symbol has attributes for its identification in the drawing and to allow data
extraction to the data base module. Other data, typically those related to associativity and conectivity (line
number of an instrument, line ends, etc.) are also stored in the drawing file, but they can only be
interpreted by the EPLANT-P&ID system.
4.2
LINES
Layer LLn. The following elements are drawn in that layer:
-
The graphic representation of the linea (AutoCAD LINE elements or any other element).
To load the linea number. Only one block for each line is allowed. This block needs the attribute LINE.
Valve blocks placed on piping lines, with names beginning with VLC, VLR, VLG.
Fitting blocks placed on piping lines, with names beginning with FIT.
Instrument blocks placed on piping lines, with names beginning with INS.
Tie-Ins blocks placed on piping lines, with names beginning with TIE.
Blocks placed on piping lines, with names beginning with IN TR indicating that the line is insulated
and/or has tracing. These blocks have two attributes, with name INS and TRA that are loaded with the
isnulation and tracing codes. Only one block of this kind is needed from the line. If the line is not
insulated its use is not necessary.
13
EPLANT-P&ID
Process and Instrumentation Diagrams and Reports
User Manual
___________________________________________________________________________________
EQUIPMENTS
Layer EEn. The following elements are drawn in that layer:
-
EQUIPMENT NOZZLES
Blocks with names beginning with NOZ. They have the attribute NOZZLE to load the nozzle name and the
DIAM attribute, to load its nominal diameter. Nozzles must be placed on one equipment layer to be linked
with it.
VALVES
Three different valve types are discriminated: control (block name beginning with VLC), relief (VLR),
generic (VLG).
Vaves have the TAG attribute to load tag number, the DIAM attribute to load the diameter (in case it is
different from the nominal diameter of the corresponding piping line). Relief valves have the DIAM2
attribute also, to load the secundary diameter.
There are two different cases:
-
The valve is placed over a piping line or Equipment: it has the same line or equipment layer. It could
have been created directly on the line or equipment, taking automatically its layer or being moved with
the Add Elements to Line or Equipment command.
The valve is a piping line end: it must be on a different layer with respect to the line layer. The most
convenient way is to place it on layer 0.
FITTINGS
Blocks with names beginning with FIT, with the TAG attribute to load tag number, the DIAM and DIAM2
attributes to load main and secundary diameter. The same considerations as in the case of valves apply.
INSTRUMENTS
Blocks with names beginning with INS. They have three attributes: UNI, NUM, FUN. The same
considerations as in the case of valves apply. The tag results concatenating the three attributes, that are
loaded both separated and concatenated in the data base instrument table.
TIE-INS
Blocks with names beginning with TIE. They have the TAG attribute. The symbol must be on the same
layer as that of an existing line. The new line can be loaded in the data base module.
O Tie-In ser geralmente uno das extremidades da linha nova.

___________________________________________________________________________________
LINE CONTINUATION
They are signs used as piping line ends in case the line continues in another diagram, placed in another
drawing file.
They are blocks with names beginning with END, with the END attribute, where the final line end is loaded
and the DOC attribute where the continuation diagram number is loaded. It must be placed in layer 0 or
different that LL* and EE*.
All segments of the same line drawn in different diagrams must have the same ends: there must be only
one true (which is not a line continuation) FROM end and one true TO end. All intermediate ends must be
line continuation blocks. The system verifies the end consistency and shows found errors in the line error
table.
GENERIC SYMBOLS
They are symbology blocks, for example arrows, with names beginning with SYM.
TYPICAL ASSEMBLIES
They are symbology blocks with some repetitive set of symbols inside them, with names beginning with
TIP. After inserting them they must be exploded, to allow the system to recognize them.
The system uses the NDOC and FLOW_TABLE attributes of the PID DOC block, that contain the P&ID
document number and the related Flow Compostion table file name (if any). See 3.4.

___________________________________________________________________________________
Name Change
Prompts to select a line element and allows to modify the number of the selected line.
Draw Line
Prompts to select a line type from a menu. An AutoCAD color is associated to each line type. Color
asignation can be modified from the project setup. Once the line type is selected the LINE command is
activated to allow drawing the line. This command can be called any time.
Append Elements
Prompts to select an element belonging to the line to which new elements are to be added. Then prompts
to select those elements.
From To
Asigns ends to a piping line. In this way the data base module knows the line ends.
Each end can be: a line, an equipment, a valve, a fitting, an instrument, a line end sign.
The command prompts to select the line and then in succession one element of each end. In case of
selection of a block, if it is on a line or equipment layer, the corresponding end is asigned to the line or
equipment name. If it is on a layer different from LLn and EEn, the end is asigned to the tag attribute of the
selected block.
Cut Line
Prompts to select two crossing lines and the one with less hierarchy it is cut. Hierarchy is defined by the
color associated to each line with respect to the definitionnof colors by function.
Rejoin Line
Allows to reconnect two line segments of a line. It is used to reconstruct a line from two segments
produced by inserting and deleting a symbol.
4.3.2 Equipments
Selecting [P I D]./ [EQUIPMENTS] the following menu opens:

prompts to select those elements.
Parametric Symbols
The same as the first command, but with the possibility to interactivelly define the insertion scales of the
symbol being selected.
Equipment Nozzles
Allows to place an equipment nozzle associated with an existing equipment.
4.3.3 Symbols
Control Valves / Relief Valves / Generic Valves
Inserts a block with the valve symbology. Symbols are selected from an icon menu and, if the block is
inserted over a line, the line is cut by the symbol length and the symbol is oriented as the line and placed
in the same layer.
New symbols can be defined and added to the menu, generating the corresponding slide. To allow the line
cut, in the symbol definition a line segment on the layer EPLANT-LINSERT (that will be kept off) must be
included. The line cut will be made using this line as reference. If this line is not found, the command
prompts to type the cut distance.
Fittings
The same as valves.
Instruments
Inserts a block with the valve symbology. Symbols are selected from an icon menu.
Tie-Ins
The same as instruments.
Symbols
The same as valves.
Generic Line End
The same as instruments.
Line Continuation
The same as instruments.
Insulation / Tracing
The same as instruments.
Typical Assemblies
The same as instruments. Typics are blocks that joint together repetitive elements. After inserting them,
they must be exploded and the resulting elements are to be joined to a line or equipment.

These errors are called formal because they do not tell of a diagram error, but of a lack of information
needed by the system and not very noticeable (end line definition missing, valves not placed over a line
and the like). These errors must be corrected on the graphic.
New Lines / Equipments
This command checks line and equipment definitions in the whole drawing file. If more than a LINE /
EQUIP blocks are found in the same layer, automatically generates a new LL* / EE* codified layer for
each additional block and changes to that layer the corresponding blocks.
It is useful to copy lines and equipments (using the AutoCAD COPY command) and next to define a new
line or equipment.
The remaining graphic elements, for example the line elements, are to be manually assigned to the
corresponding line using the [Add] command.

4.5
Process and Instrumentation Diagram, can be linked with external files. Available elements in the models
that can be linked and the corresponding link parameters are as follows:
-
Depending on the project setup, the association can be established in two alternate ways:
By Table
A table allows to link each element in EPLANT models with one or more documents contained in external
files. If the file name only is specified, the file is searched in the LINK project directory, otherwise the full
path (it can be any) is used instead. To load this table use the Documents Link Table option in the Utilities
menu in the data base module. In this case the EPLANT-P&ID specific table can be used or the EPLANTPiping table for the same project can be shared instead.
Direct
The link between the 3D model and external files is automatically established placing those files in the
LINK project directory and naming the files with the link parameter value corresponding to the element
type.
For example, the TK-001 equipment is automatically linked with the files named TK-001.JPG, TK001.XLS, etc. File format and the number of different files related to a specific object can be any. The
relation can be strictly enforced (file names must be equal to the parameter value) or the parameter value
can be interpreted as the file name prefix, depending on project setup.
To open those files, any of the available query commands can be used, depending on the element
involved: Component Characteristics and Line or Equipment Highlight.
Upon opening the window with the required characteristics, if there is at least one external file linked to the
selected element, the External Data button will be enabled. Pressing it, if there is only one external file,
that very file will be automatically opened, otherwise a window with the list of all found files will allow to
select the one to open.
From the Process and Instrumentation Diagrams it is also possible to query the information stored in the
EPLANT-P&ID data base module with respect to elements drawn in the diagrams themselves. The PID
Data button is always enabled in the windows showing element characteristics resulting from the same
query commands described in the last chapter: Component Characteristics and Line or Equipment
Highlight.
4.6
P&ID can be drawn working in any layer. Only blocks beginning with LINE and EQU are automatically
generated on codified layers. See 4.2.1 for details.
The Add command can be used any time to add elements to a line or equipment.
It is advisable to insert valves, symbols and fittings on lines already placed in a codified layer, to allow to
automatically inherit that layer.
The Highlight of a line is used to verify the proper asignmet of their elements and to check the line ends.
The same command selecting from a list allows to identify a line inside a diagram.

Each time a drawing is modified, the Report to DB command must be selected if the some report is
needed from the database module. Always check the ERR file for errors that must be corrected in the
drawing.
It is not advisable to merge two different P&ID drawings, originally drawn in separated files, in the same
drawing file, because this force to modify all the layers of one drawing to avoid layers superpositions.
The AutoCAD handle have not to be disabled, because is used in the syncronization mechanism with
the data base module.
Use the WBLOCK command with discretion.
If a line has a diameter change, but its name continues to be the same, all objects placed on the changed
diameter are always associated to the diameter found in the line definition. To allow to import a different
diameter, this value must be loaded in the DIAM attribute of each block. If this attribute is left void, the
diameter asigned to the component is by default the line diameter.

For the system to read and process the Flow Composition Tables, this option must be enabled in the
project setup:
The block used to load the document number in each diagram has an additional attribute to specify the
name of the XLS file that contain the flow composition table associated to the diagram. Each diagram can
be linked to a different flow table, all of them placed in the FD project folder.
Although the table format can be any, it must honour the following minimum criteria:
1) The table proper must be created in a sheet named table and the data related to each flor must be
placed as columns, like the following example:
28

User Manual
___________________________________________________________________________________
2) The mapping between the reading cells in the table sheet and the corresponding writing field in the
DBF table of the data base module where the Line List is stored is done in the database_map sheet:
In the first column (DBF_Field) the writing field name is identified, in the second (Column) the first column
that correspond to a flow (in the table sheet) and in the second (Row) the line which corresponds to each
field.
During the data base automatic update, these tables are processed and their data transferred to the Line
List.

Open Project
Allows to select a directory (any level, with a name no more than five characters long) that will be
regarded as the Project directory. The first time a project is opened with EPLANT-P&ID, the command will
prompt if the user wants to transform it in an EPLANT-P&ID project.
This option automatically generates some nested directories and copies reference files. It enables also
most of the options in the menu bars, verifies project files existence (if they are missing they are
automatically copied from system seeds) and performs the searching of the *.PID in the \DBF_D project
directory. These files are generated from the graphic module with the [Report to Data Base] command and
contain information corresponding to P&IDs that are automatically loaded into the database module.
During this updating process, any detected error is displayed into the screen and written in the
\[project_code]\DB_PID.ERR file that can be opened with the last option of the Utilities bar menu.
The project working graphic directory is nested into the project directory and have the PID name. Do not
open this directory as project.
The system can detect the following errors during the updating process:

This option allows to access the file [project]ATR.DBF to modify block names, attributes and fields
automatically loaded and associated to each object recognized by the system. For each object the
following fields are specified:
OBJECT
Component type: Line number, Equipment name, Valve name (separated in control, relief and generic),
piping fittings, instruments, line continuation symbol, insulation and tracing symbol.
BLOCK PREFIX
Block name first part used to identify the component type.
ATR1, ATR2, ATR3, ATR4, ATR5, ATR6
Names of up to six attributes associated to each block. The values of these attributes are automatically
extracted.
FIELD1, FIELD2, FIELD3, FIELD4, FIELD5, FIELD6
Names of up to six field names in the data bases, automatically loaded with data coming from attributes.
The name in the FIELDi field is interpreted as the field name that is loaded with the value of the ATRi
attribute.
CONC1, CONC2, CONC3, CONC4, CONC5, CONC6
Names of up to six of the attributes identified in the ATR1/2/3/4/5/6 fields. The tag number associated to
all blocks, excluded those for line and equipments, is automatically built concatenating the attributes of
these fields, separating each value with the character specified in the CONC_SYM field. This tag number
is automatically loaded in each table into the TAG field. In case of lines, the LINE field is loaded with the
line name or equipment associated to each object.
The following general rules applies:
-
Lines: the line number is loaded in the fixed name field LINE, in the line table. The writing field does
not to be specified in the project setup. The line number is disassembled into its components, using the
project line format. Those components are stored into the following fixed name fields:
LINE_N
line number
FLOW_N
flow number
FLUID
fluid
DIAM
nominal diameter
PCLA
piping material class
ICLA
insulation class
UNIT
unit
AREA
area
Line ends are automatically loaded in the fields specified by the FIELD1 and FIELD2 field contents. In
case of continuation ends, the document numbers are loaded into the DOC1 and DOC2 fields.
Equipments: the equipment name is loaded into the field specified in the FIELD1 field. The equipment
definition block can contain more attributes that can be stored in the FIELD2 and upper.
Additionally, if the equipment is linked to a Description Block, the values of its attributes D_i and
DES_EQU are loaded into the D_i and DES_EQU fields of the equipment table, the content of the
DESCRIPT field is loaded with the composition between pairs of the T_i and D_i attributes.
Equipment Nozzles: the nozzle name and the diameter are loaded in the FIELD1 and FIELD2 fields.
The name of the corresponding equipment is automatically loaded in the EQUIP field in the nozzle
table. It is not necessary to explicity set the equipment field.
Valves, Fittings, Instruments, Tie-Ins: the line number or the equipment number associated to each
component is automatically loaded into the fixed name LINE field in the corresponding table. The

writing field does not to be specified in the project setup. In case of line, the line number is
automatically disassembled into its components, using the project line format. Those components are
stored into the same fields as in the case of the line table.
The tag and other parameters are loaded into the fields associated to these components. The tag is
always loaded in the corresponding table in the fixed name TAG field. The attribute that is loaded as
tag is specified with the CONC1/2/3/4/5 fields.
If a field is loaded with information extracted from the line number and also by an attribute, this one
takes precedence over line definition.
Default system setup values are consistent with blocks, attribute and field names of the system data
bases. This default configuration is detailed below. It may be changed, respecting the rules stated above.
With this definition, for example, all blocks beginning with VLC are Control Valves. In the corresponding
data base table the following fields will be automatically loaded:
TAG with the valve tag (concatenating the values corresponding to the UNI, FUN, NUM valve attributes)
loaded in the TAG attribute
DIAM with the value loaded in the DIAM attribute, in case it contains any value
LINE with the line or equipment name and in case of a line, also with the fields LINE_N, FLUID, DIAM,
PCLA, UNIT, AREA will be loaded. The TAG and LINE fields are always loaded, they never need to be
specified.
Those names are used all around the manual to identify system blocks and attributes.
Selecting the Attribute Load and Boxes option in the main setup dialog box, the following window opens:
This option allows to access the file [project]ATR.DBF to enable attribute loading during symbol insertion
and define boxes on attributes. For each object the following fields are specified:
OBJECT
Component type: Line number, Equipment name, Valve name (separated in control, relief and generic),
piping fittings, instruments, line continuation symbol, insulation and tracing symbol.
LOAD ATTRIBUTES ON INSERT
If this field contains the number one, after inserting a symbol, the Attribute Edit window will open allowing
to input attribute values. The same Attribute Edit window can be called anytime after the symbol insertion.

BOX ON ATTRIBUTE
If this field contains the number one, after inserting a symbol the command also inserts a block (that will
be automatically exploded) with the name referenced in the next field and centered with respect the
attribute name stated in this field. A reference line between the box and the symbol is also drawn.
The box attribute name can be any (avoid interference with other prefixes) but it must contain only one
graphic element (a closed type element such as CIRCLE, POLYLINE, ELIPSE, etc). This block must be
placed in the project symbology directory.
CENTERED ATTRIBUTE
It is the attribute used to center the Attribute Box.
LISTS OF ATTRIBUTES LINKED WITH THE BOX
Contains the list of the attributes (separeted by a blank space) that are linked with the box and are moved
along the box by the Move Box with Attributes command. At least it will contain the cenetered attribute.
Default system setup values are consistent with blocks, attribute and field names of the system data
bases. It may be changed, respecting the rules stated above.
Selecting the Line Types and Colors option in the main setup dialog box, the following window opens:
This window allows to assign an AutoCAD Color and Linetype to each type of lines, identified by their
function. The top-down order in this table is also the hierachy to decide which line to cut with the

DIAGRAMS
The first option allows displaying information about project drawing files and their reporting updating status
in the database module. From this bar the following menu opens:
The left most field displays all files with DWG extension in the project graphic directory PID, with their last
modification date and time. In the Report Status field, the current graphic report status is shown for each
diagram. Four different cases can happen:
Report OK
The graphic report is updated with respect the last revision of the diagram.
Update Graphic Report
The Report to DB must be executed again in the drawing file because of possible changes in the
corresponding drawing.
Never Computed
The Report to DB must be executed in the drawing, because it was never executed. No information from
this diagram in currently loaded in the database module.
Graphic file no longer exists In this case, in some time in the past, a Graphic Report was executed from a
diagram that no longer exist now. May be the original drawing file was deleted or renamed. In any case, if
the report contains information that we don't want to compute now, the corresponding PID or FDR file in
the project DBF_S directory must be deleted and the project open again to delete all information
associated to it.
The Reports shows the following menu, common across the whole program:

fixed parts in it. Any variable text can be placed on it during the report generation, assigning the H code to
it. With the Easy Header option checked, the Header of each column is defined as the Header Column
that appears in the Modify Definition option.
Modify Format. A window will open displaying the current report format. Each record corresponds to a
variable to be written in the report body or header. Follows a description of the meaning of each field.
- Field Definition: contains the information to report. Place the field name to list. Any open table can be
referenced. Accepts the Visual Fox 6.0 syntax.
- X Pos: is the position of writing, in characters units, from the left margin starting with 1
- Y Pos: is the position of writing, in lines units, from the upper margin starting with 1. For fields in the
report body, this line is the current line: the 1 is the current one, the 2 are the following one, etc.

Width: it is the number of characters written from this field. It overwrites anything below. Fields are
written in the order that appear in this window.
Memo: logic field: if T (true) the corresponding field contains a reference to a memo field, whose
content is formatted using the specified width and generating as many lines needed to write the whole
memo text. If left blank, only one line is used to write the field content. Only one Memo field can be
defined for a report.
Code: G/H. It can have three possible values:
Void: for fields to be written in the report body. There can be an arbitrary number of these fields.
H: it is a header field. There can be an arbitrary number of these fields.
G: it is the definition of a Group: when its value changes a new header is written. Only one Group field
can be defined for a report. In this case, the table to list must be sorted with this field.
Add Field. The window of the previous option will open with a void new record to fill with the new field.
Copy allows to copy and renamed an already defined format.
Format Import allows to import a Format Definition from another project.
Format Delete allows to delete am existing format.
Select Active. In case more than one format is defined for the current report option, it allows to select a
different format.

The parameters processed by the systema and the corresponding data flow are detailed below. Default
configuration is assumed. Table structure can be modified, but system fields cannot be changed nor
deleted.
LINES
The Line table gets from the P&IDs the following fields:
- FILE
Dwg file name where the line is defined
- LINE
Complete Line Name
- FLOW_N
Flow number (loaded in the line definition block), if any.
- END1
From End
- END2
To End
- NDOC
Document Number associated to the P&ID
- FLOW_TABLE
Name of the XLS file with Flow Composition associated to the P&ID.
- BLOCK
Name of the Line definition block.
Interpreting the line number format, the following fields are automatically loaded:
- LINE_N
Line number
- FLUID
fluid
- DIAM
nominal diameter
- PCLA
piping class
- ICLA
insulation class
- AREA
area
- UNIT
unit
The remaining fields can either be manually loaded or being automatically completed with data coming
from the Flow Composition table associated to the P&ID using two fields: Flow_Table + Flow_N
EQUIPMENTS
The Equipment table gets from the P&IDs the following fields:
- FILE
Dwg file name where the equipment is defined
- EQUIP
Equipment Tag
- NDOC
Document Number associated to the P&ID
- BLOCK
Name of the Equipment definition block.
From the table PID_DES.DBF corresponding to the used block, gets the fields:
- OBJ_TYP
Equipment Type Code (used as default name for Data Sheet Template)
- DES_EQU
Equipment Description (field DES_language-code)
- D_i
Parameters loaded into the attributes D_i of the Description block (if there is one
linked to the equipment)
- DESCRIPT
Composition of the attributes T_i (titles) and attributes D_i (values) of the
Description block (if there is one linked to the equipment)
The remaining fields can be manually loaded.

BLOCK
If the component is connected to a line, interpreting the line number format, the following fields are
automatically loaded:
- LINE_N
Line number
- FLUID
fluid
- DIAM
nominal diameter
- PCLA
piping class
- ICLA
insulation class
- AREA

From the PID_DES.DBF tablec corresponding to the used component, the following fields are
automatically loaded:
- OBJ_TYP
Equipment Type Code (used as default name for Data Sheet Template)
- DES_VLC
Control Valve Description. The name of this field follows from the component code:
VLC, VLR, VLG, INS, FIT, TIE.
If the LINE field contains a Line Number, all fields that are common in the line and component tables are
automatically copied. For example, if the TEMP_NORM field of the line table is also defined in the
Instrument table, the value loaded in the line table is automatically copied to the other one. Example:
If the LINE field has an Equipment Tag, apart from this very mechanism (copy from the Equipment table
for equal field names) another procedure will be activated to transfer attributes values stored in
Description blocks linked to Equipments. In this case, the table DES_ATR.DBF in the Symbology flder is
analyzed looking for all registers with the same OBJ_TYP of the equipment. In our example, the OBJ_TYP
is the EQUT code:

DATA SHEETS
In the Equipments, Control Valves, Relief Valves, Generic Valves, Fittings and Instruments menu bar
there are an additional option to generate Data Sheets that will contain information from:
Information extracted from diagrams and automatically loaded into the data base.
Manually loaded information into the data base.
Information extracted from the Project XLS Referente File:
If the revision is not set, the name of the data sheet files that will be created is formed with the Data Sheet
Template name corresponding to each object and loaded in the OBJ_TYP field of the Block Description
Table or to the composition of both the FAB_CODE (fabrication code) and FAB_MODEL (model) that can
be manually loaded. This first part will be followed by the object Tag. The opposite order can be set in the
project setup.
To modify the generation in separate folders open the Data Sheet section in the Project Setup.
If the revision is set, the data sheet name can contain the revision name appended at the end.
Data Sheet Templates must be Excel templates (XLT extension) and placed in the Project Template
Directory, as defined in the Project setup.

2) The writing positions in the data sheet and the reading source must be specified in the sheet named
database_map:
Where in the first column named DBF_File/XLS_File the reading source is specified. It can be any of the
following:
- The Alias name of the corresponding data base table (i.e.: VLC = Control Valves)
- REF.Project_ref: the content of a cell in the sheet named Project_ref of the XLS Project Reference file
(it can be oponed from the data sheet generation window) and used to store reference project data, not
depending on revision.
- rev: the content of a cell in the sheet named rev_revision of the XLS Project Reference file and used to
store data of that very revision (i.e. sheet rev_A for revision A, as specified in the data sheet generation
window). The writing position is fixed.
- rev.+: the same as above, but the writing position is honoured only if the cell is void. If this is not the
case, a new position is checked in the following line.
- rev.-: the same as above, but the writing position is honoured only if the cell is void. If this is not the
case, a new position is checked in the previous line.

The Reload Data option updates the material project database directly from the graphic report files
(\[project]\DBF_D\*.PID). Generally there is no need to update the database in this way, because when a
project is opened, an automatic update takes place. In any case, selecting this option, the following
prompts appears:
With the first option the update is performed taking into account only those graphic reports that have been
changed since the last project opening. This option can be used when the project is already open, some
diagrams are modified and we need to update the reports.
The second option updates all graphic reports, disregarding their generation and loading status. In either
cases, manually added information are not changed.
The Text Editor option allows editing text files.
The DBF Editor allows opening for edit a DBF file, with or without an index file. Don't use this option to
edit system tables that can always be edited directly from other menu options.
The Create New DBF option allows generating a new DBF table, defining its structure.
The Modify DBF Structure option allows modifying the structure of an existing DBF table.

The Export DBF to XLS option allows to export a DBF table to an XLS format file. Do not use this option
if the exported file has to be reimported into EPLANT. For this purpose, use the Export DBF to CSV
instead.
The Export DBF to CSV option allows to convert a DBF table into a text file with the CSV format. Use this
command when the DBF table is to be edited in Excel outside EPLANT. This very file will be imported into
the same DBF table using the Import DBF from CSV option. See Project Setup / General Parameters to
set separator character for columns and decimal places.
The Import DBF from CSV option allows to import a file in CSV format into a DBF table. Only those
columns with the same name in both files will be imported. For better results, always work on a CSV file
exported with the option above.
Simbol's Descriptions allows to assign a description to each symbol available in a given standard. This
description will appear associated to each icons in the menu used to place the symbols. The description is
loaded in a table with the fixed name PID_DES.DBF placed in the directory of the corresponding standard.
Selecting this options the following window opens:
With the Browse / Modify button the descriptions are loaded. Block Uopdate automatically syncronizes
the directory and the table content.
Description Blocks allows to automatically preload a text in each attribute of the Description Blocks
(used for equipments) when inserted in the diagram. These texts are associated to the Data Sheet name
corresponding to each equipment. Selecting this options the following window opens: The System

Import Setup from Another Project This command allows to import the structure of all project tables
from another project. The Project Setup can be imported as well.
MTO for Piping allows the automatic generation of piping materials associated to all P&IDs. The
generartion process works in this way:
-
Each valve, fitting or instrument block is translated to the equivalent EPLANT-Piping Generic Code,
using an equivalence table. The component is generated with the unit quantity and the line name,
piping class, main and secundary diameters are obtained from the diagram.
For each piping line a component with the PIP (pipe) code is generated with the main diameter, piping
class and line number. The quantity (its length) is set to zero, to be manually modified later on directly
in the EPLANT-Piping module.
Each generated component is searched in the corresponding project piping class. If the component is
found, the remaining characteristics (end codes, rating, schedule, material code, additional code) are
completed, otherwise it is stored in a separated error table to allow analizing the error later.
Each valve having flanged ends automatically generates two corresponding flanges. The flange is
searched for in the valve piping class as welding neck type (WNF code). If not found it is searched
again as slip on type (SLI flange). The first one found is generated, otherwise the error is stored in the
error table.
Each PIP component activates the generation of an elbow, in the same fashion of the flange
generation. First the code 90E (long radius elbow) is searched in the piping class, if not found the
search is redone with the 90S (short radius elbow). The quantity is set to zero.
Components are generated in a table that can be displayed, to check for errors. The process ends with
the generation of the fixed name file P&ID.PD1, containing all the generated materials in the EPLANTPiping format and stored in the DBF project directory.
Equivalence P&ID Blocks Piping Allows to load the table with the equivalence between the block names
used in the P&IDs and the Generic Component Code used by the EPLANT-Piping module. If during the
generation of a new material estimate the command detects blocks not referenced in this table, these
blocks are displayed and written in the \project\DB_PID.ERR file, that can be open with the last option in
the Utilities menu. This file is erased each time a project is open.
Errors Specification Searching After a new MTO generation, shows all errors found in specification
searching.
Intermediate data for generation After the generation of a new MTO, allows to access the generated
material table that is used to generate the estimate P&ID.PD1 file for the EPLANT-Piping module.

Generate New MTO Generates a new piping material estimate for the current project, based on the
detailed above.
The Documents Link Table option allows to load document names associated to each Tag in the P&IDs
in case the link pattern for the current project is defined by a Table. If more than one document is
associated with the same Tag, one line per document is required.
The External Table Connection option in the main Utilities menu opens the following window:
It allows to perform the checking operations that are selected: to detect objects only present in diagrams
(and missing in the connected external table) or the opposite. The results can be displayed or stored in a
text or DBF file.
The Updating Errors option in the main Utilities menu opens a window on the database project log file:
\[proyecto]\DBF\[proyecto]ERR.DBF that contains any error detected during the opening of a project or an
update. Every time a project is opened, this file is overwritten.
