Novak Djokovic wins men's single, Romanian


Simona Halep wins women singles of Madrid
Open of tennis

On 8 May 2016 Professional tennis player from Serbia Novac Djokovic


defeated Andy Murray with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to conquer the Mutua
Madrid Open title in Madrid, Spain.
After this victory Djokovic moves ahead of Spains Rafael Nadal with a record
29 ATP Masters 1000 titles. It was also Djokovics fifth win in the last 6 ATP
1000 competitions.

Womens Single Category;


On 7 May 2016 Romanian tennis player Simona Halep won the women singles
title of the Madrid Open by defeating Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia with a
score of 6-2, 6-4 in the final played at Madrid, Spain

This was the third Madrid title for World No. 6 Halep and her first title of 2016.
Overall this was her 12th career title.

The Madrid Open, currently sponsored by Mutua Madrilea, is a male and
female professional tennis tournament. It is currently held in Madrid, Spain,
during the first week of May.

Gujarat government accords minority status to


Jains
On 7 May 2016 Gujarat Government accorded minority status
to the Jain community by issuing a government resolution (GR)
to this effect.
The decision was taken by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.

It has nothing to do with reservations and it will benefit the


poor among the Jain community as they can avail of various
scholarships, government welfare schemes.

Earlier in January 2014, the previous UPA government had


conferred minority status on the community at the national
level.
Jains were the 6th community to have minority status after
Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis.

UN launches Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Zika


virus response
On 6 May 2016 United Nations (UN) announced the establishment of
the UN Zika Response Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) to finance
critical unfunded priorities in the response to the Zika outbreak. The
establishment of the fund was announced by
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The Fund aims to provide a rapid, flexible and accountable platform to
support a coordinated response from the UN system and partners.

It will directly support the Zika Strategic Response Framework,


developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in consultation
with UN agencies.

Under the programme, the donors will contribute to a central point and
an Advisory Committee will direct funds to the highest-priority
activities in the affected countries.

100% FDI through Automatic Route permitted in


Asset Reconstruction Companies
Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARCs) are the companies that are set up to
reconstruct or re-package assets to make them more saleable.
The Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) under Union Ministry
of Commerce & Industry permitted 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) into
asset reconstruction companies (ARCs) through automatic route.
In this regard the DIPP notified the Press Note 4 (2016 series) on 6 May 2016.
Highlights;
Person resident outside India can invest in the capital of ARCs registered with
RBI, upto 100% on the automatic route. Earlier, it was 49% through automatic
route and beyond 49% through government route.

Total share holding of an individual foreign institutional investor (FII)/foreign


portfolio investment (FPI) shall be below 10% of the total paid-up capital.
FIIs/ FPIs may be allowed up to 100% of each tranche in security receipts
(SRs) issued by ARCs which are subjected to RBI guidelines.

Dial 112 for any Emergency throughout India


from 1 January 2017
112, the single emergency number that will help people to
reach immediate services of police, ambulance and fire
department will be operational throughout India from 1
January 2017.
Single emergency number 112 of India will be similar to the
'911' all-in-one emergency service in the United States.

services was approved by Union Telecom Minister Ravi
Shankar Prasad.
