THE UGLY DUCKLING

One upon time, a mother duck sat on her eggs. She felt tired of sitting on them. She just wished
the eggs would break out. Several days later, she got her wish. The eggs cracked and some cute
little ducklings appeared. Peep, peep the little ducklings cried. Quack, quack their mother
greeted in return. However the largest egg had not cracked. The mother duck sat on it for several
days. Finally, it cracked and a huge ugly duckling waddled out. The mother duck looked at him
in surprise. He was so big and very gray. He didnt look like the others at all. He was like a
turkey.
When the mother duck brought the children to the pond for their first swimming lesson, the huge
grey duckling splashed and paddled about just as nicely as the other ducklings did. That is not a
turkey chick. He is my very own son and quite handsome the mother said proudly. However, the
other animals didnt agree. They hissed and made fun of him day by day. Even his own sisters
and brothers were very unkind. You are very ugly they quacked. The little poor duckling was
very unhappy. I wish I looked like them he thought to himself. One day, the ugly duckling run
away and hid in the bushes. The sad duckling lived alone through the cold and snow winter.
Finally the spring flowers began to bloom. While he was swimming in the pond, he saw three
large white swans swimming toward him. Oh, dear These beautiful birds will laugh and peck
me too he said to himself. But the swans did not attack him. Instead, they swam around him and
stroked him with their bills. As the ugly duckling bent his neck to speak to them, he saw his
reflection in the water. He could not believe his eyes. I am not an ugly duckling but a beautiful

MOUSE DEER STEAL CUCUMBERS

after that, the farmer came. The farmer was satisfied to his work. The mouse deer was finally
trapped. Then the farmer put the mouse deer in a cage. The mouse deer was really in a big
trouble as the farmers dog came approaching him. The dog said that the mouse deer would be
cut and cooked for the following morning.
In such dangerous situation, the mouse deer kept calm even relaxed. Of course it made the dog
confused and asked the mouse deer why he was not scared. So the mouse deer answered, Ill

mouse deer continued. Im going to marry the farmers daughter so Im going to be a prince. I

the dog felt unhappy and continued proudly, Now, look at me! Ill become a prince in this house
tomorrow The dog felt discriminated and asked the mouse deer to switch place. The dog
thought that by switching place with the mouse deer in the cage, he would become a prince. The
mouse deer agreed. Soon the dog opened the cage and let the mouse deer free.

RABBIT AND TURTLE

Once upon a time there was a girl named Cinderella. She lived with her bad step mother and two
step sisters. She had to do all the household chores.

stepmother. Cinderella was left alone. She cried because she actually wanted to go to the ball too.

At the ball, Cinderella danced with the Prince. The Prince fell in love with her. At
midnight, Cinderella ran home. Unfortunately, one of her glass slippers slipped off at the door.
She did not have time to put it back on. The Prince was sad as he could not find Cinderella again
that night.
The next day, the Prince and his men brought along the glass slipper. They went all over
the Kingdom to search for the owner. After searching for long time, finally, they came to
Cinderellas house. The slipper fit with her. The Prince was very happy to find Cinderella
again. They got married and lived happily.

SLEEPING BEAUTY

In a faraway kingdom, there was an empire led by a king and queen. The king led his region with
a very wise and prudent. Despite being a king, their life was less happy because they did not
have a child. It made the king and queen became sad.
Then one day the queen gave birth to a beautiful little daughter named Princess Aurora. The birth
of the little princess made the king and the entire kingdom happy. The king was making a big
celebration to welcome his daughter. He invited all the people in the kingdom, including all the
fairies that live in the kingdom. The king invited them to ask for their blessing. But the king
forgot to invite all the fairies in the kingdom. The facts that there were 13 fairies in kingdom but

voice and so on. When the 12th fairy was about to give her blessing, the 13th fairy who were not

mother. His father decided to marry again with the beautiful queen but she was very cruel.
Her stepmother is the most beautiful woman in the kingdom. She has a magic mirror. Every day
the queen asked to this mirror, Magic mirror, magic mirror on the wall! Who is the prettiest
woman in this entire kingdom? Magic mirror said Of course, you are the most beautiful woman
.
One day the queen is asked to the magic mirror again. However, she was surprised when the
mirror said, Snow White is the most beautiful woman in the kingdom. The evil queen is very
jealous and angry when she found out Snow White more beautiful than her. She ordered the
royal guard to hunt Snow White and bring her to forest to be killed. I want you to kill her, then
bring me her heart! she ordered. When the guards find snow, they felt sad and couldnt stand to
kill her. Then they kill a deer abd brought its heart to the queen. They did not say that heart was
not belong to Snow. Snow White is very sad and crying. She went back into the forest to wander
until night.
In the afternoon, she came to a small house in the woods. She entered the house. However, she
found no one there. She only found seven plates on the table and seven little beds. Then, she
cooked delicious meals and cleaned the house. She was very tired and slept in one of the small
beds. At night, the seven dwarfs who lived in the house was very surprised found her in their
homes. When Snow White woke up, she tells the story of her evil stepmother. Seven dwarfs were
very sorry and asked her to stay with them. Every morning she made food for dwarf. The dwarf
ordered her not to open the door for strangers.
Meanwhile at the palace, the queen was very surprised when she asked to magic mirror. The
mirror was still saying that Snow White is the most beautiful woman in kerjaaan. She was very
angry when heard it. Actually, the queen was a witch. Then, she made a poisonous potion and put
into the apple. She planned to give the apple to Snow White. Then, she was disguised as an old

woman, and went to the house of Snow White. She knocked on the door. Snow White did not let
her in. However, Snow saw the woman was carrying apples.
Let me in, I bring sweet apples for you, so please open the door? said the queen
Then Snow opened the door and ate an apple. When she ate an apple, Suddenly, she fell asleep.
Queen returned to the palace and asked the magic mirror. This time, the mirror replied, You are
the most beautiful woman in this kingdom
Seven dwarfs were very surprised when they found Snow White lying at home. They are very
sad and cried all night. Then they put Snow into a glass coffin. One day, there was a handsome

RAPUNZEL

A long time ago, there lived a young couple, a man and his wife. His wife was expecting their
baby. She wanted a plant that only grew in her neighbors garden. She wanted it so much. She
even intended to steal it herself, but later on, she sent her husband to steal it. Unfortunately,
mother gothel, the owner of the garden, caught him doing it. She was a witch. Then, mother
gothel forced the couple to give their first baby to her.
A few months later, the baby was born. It was a girl and named Rapunzel. Soon, this baby was
taken away to live with mother gothel. Rapunzel grew to be a beautiful young girl with her long
goldy hair. She, at first, was cared in a normal way. When she reached puberty, she was locked in
a tower so that she would never leave Mother Gothel. The tower stood in the forest. It could only
be entered by climbing on Rapunzels long hair. To cheer herself up, she loved to sing.
One day, a young prince was out hunting. He stumbled upon the tower. He heard Rapunzels
beautiful voice. He decided that he must meet her. He spied and, by watching Mother Gothel,
learned the words he had to say to have Rapunzel drop her hair. The prince visited her often and
the two fell in love.
Then, Rapunzel made a plan to escape from the tower. She wanted to be with the prince. She
asked the prince to bring her a skein of silk each time he visited. She might weave a ladder for
her escape. Unfortunately, Mother Gothel caught on. Then, she banished Rapunzel to the desert.
She threw the prince from the tower into a thorny bush. The thorns made the prince blind and he
roamed the earth searching for his love.
Eventually, they found each other, and the princes eyes were healed by Rapunzels tears of
happiness.

TIMUN MAS

One night, while farmers were praying, Buto Ijo a giant with supranatural powers passed their
house. He heard they pray.and buto ijo said, "Don't worry farmers. I can give you a child. But
you have to give me that child when she is 17 years old,"The farmers were so happy.They did
not think about the risk of losing their child letter and agree to take the offer. Later, Buto Ijo gave
them a bunch of cucumber seeds. The farmers planted them carefully. Then the seeds changed
into plants. No longer after that, a big golden cucumber grew from plants.After it had ripe, the
farmers picked and cut it. They were very surprised to see beautiful girl inside the cucumber.
They named her Timun Mas (golden cucumber). Years passed by and Timun Mas has changed
into a beautiful girl. On her 17th birthday, Timun Mas was very happy.
However, the parents were very sad. They knew they had to keep their promise to Buto Ijo the
giant but they also did not want to lose their beloved daughter. "My daughter, take this bag. It
can save you from the giant," said father. "What did you mean, Father? I don't understand," said
Timun Mas. Right after that, Buto Ijo came into their house. "Run Timun Mas. Save your life!"
said the mother. Buto ijo was angry. He knew the farmers wanted to break their promise. He
chased Timun Mas away. Buto Ijo was getting closer and closer. Timun Mas then opened the bag
and threw a handful of salt. It became sea. Buto Ijo had to swim to cross the sea. Later, Timun
Mas threw some chilly. It became a jungle with trees. The trees had sharp thorns so they hurt
Buto Ijo. However, he was still able to chase Timun Mas. Timun Mas took her third magic stuff.
It was cucumber seeds. She threw them and became cucumber field. But Buto Ijo still could
escape from the field. Then it was the last magic stuff she had in the bag. It was a shrimp paste or
terasi. She threw it and became a big swamp. Buto Ijo was still trying to swim the swamp but he
was very tired. Then he was drowning and died.

BAWANG MERAH DAN BAWANG PUTIH

Long time ago lived a girl,her named was Bawang Putih,she lived with her stepmother and her
stepsister, Bawang Merah. Bawang Putih's mother died when she was a baby. Her father
remarried another woman and later her stepsister was born.
Unfortunately, not long after that her father died. Since then, Bawang Putih's
life was sad. Her step mother and her step sister treated Bawang Putih badly and always asked
her to do all the household chores.
One morning, Bawang Putih was washing some clothes in a river. Accidentally, her mother's
clothes were washed away by the river. She was
really worried so she walked along the river side to find the clothes. Finally she met an old
woman. She said that she kept the clothes and would give them back to Bawang Putih if she
helped the old woman do the household chores.
Bawang Putih helped her happily. After everything was finished, the old woman returned the
clothes. She also gave Bawang Putih a gift.
The old woman had two pumpkins, one pumpkin
was small and the other one was big. Bawang Putih had to choose one.
Bawang Putih was not a greedy girl. So she took
the small one. After thanking the old woman,Bawang Putih then went home. When she arrived
home, her step mother and Bawang Merah were angry. They had been waiting for her all day
long. Bawang Putih then told about the clothes,the old woman, and the pumpkin. Her mother
was really angry so she grabbed the pumpkin
and smashed it to the floor. Suddenly they all were surprised. Inside the pumpkin they found
jewelries. "Bawang Merah, hurry up. Go to the river and throw my clothes into the water. After
that, find the old woman. Remember, you have to take the big pumpkin," the step mother asked
Bawang Merah to do exactly the same as Bawang Putih's experience. Bawang Merah
immediately went to the river. She threw the clothes and pretended to search them. Not long after
that, she met the old woman. Again she asked Bawang Merah to do household chores.
She refused and asked the old woman to give her a big pumpkin. The old woman then gave her
the big one. Bawang Merah was so happy. She ran very fast. When she arrived home, her mother

was impatient. She directly smashed the pumpkin to the floor. They were screaming.
There were a lot of snakes inside the pumpkin!
They were really scared. They were afraid the snakes would bite them. "Mom, I think God just
punished us. We had done bad things to Bawang
Putih. And God didn't like that. We have to apologize to Bawang Putih," said Bawang Merah.
Finally both of them realized their mistakes. They apologized and Bawang Putih forgave
them. Now the family is not poor anymore. Bawang Putih decided to sell all the jewelries and
used the money for their daily lives.

TOBA LAKE

Once upon time, there was a handsome man. His name was Batara Guru Sahala. He liked
fishing. One day, he caught a fish. He was surprised to find out that the fish could talk. The fish
begged him to set it free.
Batara Guru could not bear it. He made the fish free. As soon as it was free, the fish changed
into a very beautiful woman. She attracted Batara Guru so much. He felt in love with that fishwoman. The woman wanted to marry with him and said that Batara Guru had to keep the secret
which she had been a fish. Batara Guru aggreed and promised that he would never tell anybody
about it.
They were married happily. They had two daughters. One day Batara Guru got very angry with
his daughter. He could not control his mad. He shouted angrily and got the word of fish to his
daugters. The daughters were crying. They found their mother and talked her about it.
The mother was very annoyed. Batara Guru broke his promise. The mother was shouting
angrily. Then the earth began to shake. Volcanoes started to erupt. The earth formed a very big
hole. People believed that the big hole became a lake. Then this lake is known as Toba lake.

SANGKURIANG

Once, there was a kingdom in Priangan Land. Lived a happy family. They were a father in form
of dog, his name is Tumang, a mother which was called Dayang Sumbi, and a boy which was
named Sangkuriang.
One day, Dayang Sumbi asked her son to go hunting with his lovely dog, Tumang. After hunting
all day, Sangkuriang began desperate and worried because he hunted no deer. Then he thought
to shot his own dog. Then he took the dog liver and carried home.
Soon Dayang Sumbi found out that it was not deer lever but Tumangs, his own dog. So, She was
very angry and hit Sangkuriangs head. In that incident, Sangkuriang got wounded and scar then
cast away from their home.
Years go bye, Sangkuriang had travel many places and finally arrived at a village. He met a
beautiful woman and felt in love with her. When they were discussing their wedding plans, The
woman looked at the wound in Sangkuriangs head. It matched to her sons wound who had left
several years earlier. Soon she realized that she felt in love with her own son.
She couldnt marry him but how to say it. Then, she found the way. She needed a lake and a boat
for celebrating their wedding day. Sangkuriang had to make them in one night. He built a lake.
With a dawn just moment away and the boat was almost complete. Dayang Sumbi had to stop it.
Then, she lit up the eastern horizon with flashes of light. It made the cock crowed for a new day.
Sangkuriang failed to marry her. She was very angry and kicked the boat. It felt over and
became the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu Bandung.
