Input and output device

Introduction
Did you ever wondered how information gets into your computer and how comes
out of it in a form which we can understand? That is all possible with input and
output devices. In computing, input and output is the communication between
computer and human.
Input device
Input device is a piece of computer hardware equipment which send data to the
computer. Examples of input devices are keyboards, mouse, scanners, digital
cameras, joysticks.
Input devices can be direct or indirect. For example, touchscreens involve direct
input, and mouse or trackball involve indirect input (it is because pointing is done
in the space where visual feedback or the pointer appears).
Keyboard
Keyboard is a device used to enter data and commands to a computer by
pressing keys on it. We have several types of keyboards. The most common type
includes 101-104 Keys and we call it QWERTY keyboard and its widely used for
English language keyboard.
Every computer keyboard has the following parts:
Typing area
It looks like traditional typewriter where we press keys. It has letters, special
characters and numbers. We use that are for word processing.
Function keys
This part is located at the top of the keyboard. There are 12 keys starting from F1
to the F12. We use that keys for special tasks. For example, if we need help in
Microsoft Word we just press F1.
Those keys are used differently on other applications, which purpose we can read
in every manual.
Numeric keypad
This part is located at the right side of a keyboard. We can use them to enter
numerical data or as directional keys. We control that with the Num Lock button.
Cursor and monitor controls
The last part of computer keyboard which holds Insert, Home, Page Up, Page
Down, Delete, and End keys.
Mouse
Mouse is a pointing device that offers an alternative way to interact with the
computer beside a keyboard. It controls the motion of pointer on our displays
(two dimensional motion in a GUI).
Typical mouse has 3 buttons: left and right clicks and a scrolling wheel which
helps user to scroll.

Variants of mouse are: Mechanical, optical and laser, inertial and gyroscopic, 3D,
tactile, pucks, ergonomic, gaming.
We can also classify mouse by its connectivity. We have cabled mouse which we
can connect to computer by cable (RS-323C, PS/2, ADB or USB). We also have
cordless mouse which transmit data via infrared radiation or radio (including
Bluetooth) or wireless.
Scanner
It is an input device which scans images, text or object and converts it to a digital
image.
Output device
Output device is piece of hardware equipment which converts computer data into
human-readable form. Examples are display devices, printers, audio-output
devices.
Display devices
Those are output devices that visually conveys graphics, text and video. Display
devices are CRT monitors, LCD, gas plasma monitors and TV.
The most popular monitors currently are the LCD (Liquid crystal display) and CRT
(Cathode ray tube).
Printer
A printer is a peripheral device that makes physical copy of graphic or text on
paper or similar physical media.
Two most popular printers are laser printer which is used mainly for text and color
injected printer which can produce very quality photographs.
Audio devices
Audio output devices can be used to translate audio information from the
computer into sounds that people can understand.
Two most common audio devices are speakers and headphones.
Input and output devices
We also have many devices that combine input and output capabilities.
For example: Fax machines, multifunction devices, internet telephones,
terminals
Conclusion
To conclude I will just say that input and output devices are very important for
computer usage. Computer can work without them but we cant use and put or
get information from it.
