Earthquake

South Sukabumi including one of the areas in West Java South frequent
earthquakes it is not surprising because the area through the Cimandiri active fault
which is the strike-slip fault with the epicenter on the mainland, so if an earthquake can
cause vibrations stronger around Pelabuhan Ratu adjacent to the epicenter. The quake
hit the region frequently Sukabumi strength bervaraisi between 4-6 on the Richter Scale.
Such a quake can damage buildings and as a trigger of landslide in hilly areas.
According to the Directorate of Environmental Geology research Sukabumi area
can diba Queen gi memjadi four zones based on the intensity of earthquakes using skla
MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity)
a. Zone I Maximum intensity VIII, includes the valley Cimandiri
b. Zone II maximum intensity VII, includes an area of Central Jampang
Nyalindung
c. Zone III the maximum intensity VI, includes the area Ciemas, Jampang
Kulon, Pabuaran, Sagaranten and Cidadap
d. Zone IV with a maximum intensity of V, includes an area Surade, and Tegal
Buleud South coast

Landslide
Landslide often occur in this area due to various factors such as: the physical
properties of rocks and lapukannya, structural geology, slope, rainfall and vegetation
cover could be factors that could trigger more intensive soil movement. Based on
geological conditions in South Sukabumi there are three zones of vulnerability of
landslide, namely the vulnerability of high, medium and low. Areas of high vulnerability
of ground motion, generally occupies an area of hills formed by rock sidimen tertiary,
particularly fine-grained, and areas near the contact with the Quaternary volcanic rocks
of sedimentary rocks, located in the southern and southeastern .batuan Tertiary
sediments have generally been undergo folding and faulting.
Places fault lines through which it is a zone of relatively weak and susceptible to
landslide. When areas along the fault lines that lack proper land use and management
will invite the landslide. Large landslide occurred at the edge of the road between
Sukabumi - Pelabuhan Ratu Cicareuh near the river. The landslide sweeping escarpment

formed by Quaternary volcanic rocks. As a result of landslide that some parts of the
road is slumping.
The vulnerability area of middle landslide, include area of high hills, mountains
formed by Quaternary volcanic rocks and andesite tava. The possibility of permanent
landslide and balance disorders in case of the physical environment, such as the clearing
of forests, land use change from plantations into cultivation and so on.
The vulnerability area of landslide that low and steady, generally occupying
areas that are relatively flat and sloping, seternpat In this area there may also be
location-tokasi are susceptible to landslide, such as the location along the river bank,
cliff cutting roads and so on.
Erosion
In Pelabuhan Ratu intensified erosion processes running on open ground or
damaged by human activities, this can be seen in hilly areas for plantation activities that
cleared forest land for plantations on the hills with steep slope and Tertiary sedimentary
rocks. The erosion rate can be observed clearly that erosion groove (rill erosion) and
gully erosion (gully erosion) and many developed into the erosion of the upstream
(headward erosion) followed by an landslide.
Abrasion
Sukabumi south coast is a beach that has waves of the Indian Ocean that is
strong enough and the erosion of beaches, including quite strong, visible locations
experiencing abrasion of them around the coast Edge tiles and partially Pelabuhan Ratu
beach. Abrasion is in addition dicwerminkan by steep cliffs also found indentations that
jutted into the mainland.
Tsunami
Based on data obtained from Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi
said that the region sukabumi often occur earthquakes, even including an active region
earthquake levels in Java. Earthquakes that occur in this region comes from the
subduction zone of active faults at sea and on land CiMandiri. This subduction zone
from a convergent interaction of the Indian Ocean-Australian plate with the Eurasian
plate Continent. The earthquake generated from the subduction zone could potentially
lead to the tsunami disaster when the mechanism is caused by a reverse fault and fault
down.

Morphological conditions of the seabed around the bay and Pelabuhan Ratu has
a varied morphology. Starting from the shallow coastal morphology although relatively
little then directly adjacent to the deep sea.

Gambar. Kondisi morfologi dasar laut teluk Pelabuhan Ratu dilihat dari daratan

From the data above, it is apparent that the morphology of the seabed around the
Gulf of Pelabuhan Ratu more dominated by steep slopes and deep-sea areas. These
conditions will result in a fast pace or propagation of a tsunami around the bay
Pelabuhanratu especially towards Pelabuhan Ratu beach in the district will be very high.
So in case of a tsunami in the Gulf region Pelabuhan Ratu, tsunami waves will more
quickly reach when compared to the surrounding areas.
Vulkanisme
Vulkanisme occurs by subduction. It has been already mentioned above that
Based on data obtained from Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi said that
This subduction zone from a convergent interaction of the Indian Ocean-Australian
plate with the Eurasian plate Continent. So, there are volcano which cause earquake that
cause tsunami. And thare is a product that indicated volacano is geyser. Geyser is hot
spring water that spray out from subsurface to surface.
