ANSI/ASSE A10.9-2013 BACKGROUND MATERIALS

Historic Background Only (July 2013)

ASSE, as secretariat of the A10 ANSI Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) for Construction
and Demolitions has continued to receive a number of inquiries related to the ANSI/ASSE
A10.9-2013 American National Standard titled: Safety Requirements for Concrete and Masonry
Work
Due to these inquiries for information about the standard we have put together a tech brief for
those with an interest. The following information below should hopefully be of assistance:
Title: Safety Requirements for Concrete and Masonry Work
Scope: Establishes safety requirements pertaining to concrete construction and masonry work in
construction. Covers all on-site concrete construction and masonry work including design,
erection, operation, and maintenance of aggregate processing plants, concrete mixing plants, and
conveyances. Also contains safety requirements pertinent to the specialty concrete operations of
reinforcing steel installation, prestressing by pretensioning or post tensioning, lift-slab
construction, tilt-up construction, and slip forms.
Past Versions of the Standard:
A10.9-2013
A10.9-2004 (Reaffirmed)
A10.9-1998
A10.9-1990
A10.9-1983
A10.9-1970
Current Status of the A10.9 Standard: Committee ballot and public review have already been
completed and the standard was approved by ANSI during Calendar Year 2013 and was
published during May 2013.
