Project Engineering Are you ready to

take the lead?
1921 October 2014, Singapore
Do you feel like there is more to engineering than
just process? Are you ready to take on a lead process
engineer or project engineers role and not sure
whether you are ready or equipped with the bigger
picture understanding of the key elements required?
Given the chemical industry project sector accounts
for $$ billions of expenditure every year. This course
aims to cover the role of the engineer in the project
environment.
It will focus more on tasks the lead / project engineer
would be facilitating and coordinating, rather than just
the classic cost, schedule and commercial issues that
the project manager/ director would focus on.
It is designed for engineers either about to take on
their first lead or project engineering function, and
those who are feeling a little lost and looking to move
from say operations, design, construction, automation
into the world of projects, but need to know the new
skills and knowledge required of them to take on this
move.

Course aims

The course contains numerous case studies in each

element so that the practicalities of the module content
can be emphasised, explored and applied to real life
situations.
Following key learning outcomes and descriptive
steps in a project life cycle, at the end of the course,
delegates should be able to:

This course is aimed at providing an understanding of

the key elements of project, from inter-departmental
relationships, team roles and responsibilities (where
do you fit in?) and how to manage the constraints
of resources, scheduling and manpower balancing.
The different challenges faced in running a greenfield
project to the challenges in scoping out and running
a cut and carve (brownfield) project. Do you really
understand the interdependencies of the other
disciplines and appreciate your deliverables are there
ultimately to ensure construction group and the client
can produce what they demanded.
The objective is to a systematic overview and
illustration of a projects lifecycle in the chemical
industry. Beginning with an introduction to the role,
the course then follows with life in an engineering
house (who does what and why), proposals and the
bidding process including contract types, greenfield
projects, estimating (cost and manpower) tools,
interactive planning and scheduling, cut and carve
projects, construction, commissioning leading to plant
start-up and operation.
