North East Safe Places Sharing Event

Safe Places is a scheme to provide safe places in the
community where people with learning disabilities can go
if they get into trouble or feel unsafe, frightened or bullied.
We know that there is a lot of good work going on in the
North East and we will be having an event where people
can share what is happening in their area.
We have asked some people to tell us about their Safe
Places schemes and what has made it a success.

There will also be time for everyone to ask questions

about the different schemes so that they can support other
areas and help improve their local schemes.
We would like 6 people from each Inclusion North member
area to come to this event. You can see a list of member
areas at the end of the bulletin.
The event will take place on
8th June in Darlington

From 10.00am to 3.00pm

To book a place, please contact Marie at

Self Advocacy Supporters Network

Inclusion North continues to run a network aimed at
people who have a paid or volunteer role in
supporting a self-advocacy group.
This network is for people working or volunteering in
Inclusion North member areas only.
This year we will be holding separate meetings for
groups in Yorkshire & Humber and the North East so
you can go to the one closest to you.

The aims of the network are:

To share examples of good practice and learning
To work together to find solutions to challenges
To explore any things we might work on together
The next meetings are:
25th May for Yorkshire & Humber in York
26th May for the North East in Newcastle

The sessions will start at 10.30am and finish at

2.30pm. Drinks and a light lunch will be provided.
We will be focusing on issues to do with funding, how
to use graphic facilitation and following up on the
development of the How to Influence booklet.

The network will be facilitated by Kirsty Morgan but

we hope that members of the network will be active
too.
If you would like to book a place at these network
meetings please contact Marie at

Life Begins at Home

Life begins at home is a report from the Housing and
Support Alliance (H&SA), that has been funded by NHS
England and supported by the Challenging Behaviour
Foundation.
The purpose of the guide is to help families and front line
housing, health and social care professionals understand
the housing choices available to them.
H&SA are encouraging local authorities, NHS Trusts and
groups that give advice to adapt this guide for local use.

If anyone would like a text only version of the guide to

change for their requirements, they can get one by
contacting
enquiries@housingandsupport.org.uk
This guide comes with a training pack and films that help
health, housing and social care professionals look at and
understand their role in helping families get the housing
they need.

You can download the guide and training pack and see
the videos on the link to the H&SAs website below
