ELECTRICAL ACTUATOR TECHNICAL NOTES

Please note the stated deliveries are for standard WT or EXD-ATEX IIB units with Rotork standard
paint finish only.
EC DIRECTIVES AND CE MARKING: CE marking will be provided on the Instruction manuals for the
actuators offered to show conformance to the essential protection requirements of the Low Voltage
Directive 73/23/EEC amended by 93/68/EEC and conformance to the requirements of the EMC
Directive 89/336/EEC amended by 92/31/EEC. A declaration of conformity in accordance with these
Directives will be issued with each actuator. Electric actuators are considered not to be machines within
the definition of the EC Machinery Directive 89/392/EEC as amended by 91/368/EEC and 93/44/EEC.
However, a Declaration of Incorporation will be issued with each actuator.
ACTUATOR (GEARBOX) SIZING
Please note, when sizing thrust bearing multi-turn actuators or actuator gearbox combinations, Rotork
take into account the 'resultant thrust' to ensure that the selected combination is capable of withstanding
the potential thrusts generated.
Resultant thrust is a calculated value corresponding to the thrust generated at the rated torque of
selected combinations using a stem conversion factor given by dividing the required valve torque by
required thrust.
If Rotork have not been supplied with the valve thrust data, resultant thrust cannot be calculated and
therefore it is the customers (valve manufacturers) responsibility to check the thrust rating of the
selected unit is sufficient for the potential generated thrust forces.
Multi-turn actuator stall torque will be between 1.4 and 2.0 times rated torque dependent on actuator
size, speed, electrical supply type and voltage variation.
ACTUATOR DRIVE BUSH
The actuator drive bush is supplied blank for you to machine to suit your valve stem or gearbox input
shaft. Note, however, that prices listed do not include for any adaptation required mounting to valve. All
internal bearings and output drive bearings for Rotork electric actuators are lubricated for life, sealed
and maintenance free.

IQ RANGE 3-PHASE ACTUATOR DESCRIPTION

The IQ Range of 3-phase electric actuators is described in publication E110E (Issue 12/08) and includes:
* Double-sealed watertight enclosure to IEC529, IP68 (BS EN 60529) and NEMA 4&6
* Terminal box with three threaded cable entries
* Integral controls
* Non-intrusive commissioning and control configuration using the supplied infrared IQ Setting Tool
* Three LED's for local indication; red-open, yellow-intermediate, green-closed
* Data Logger that logs operational data and valve/actuator torque profiles
* Integral illuminated, digital valve position indicator showing 1% increments in valve position with closed and open valve limit
symbols
* Single phase or DC supply IQS and IQD actuators are available at extra cost.
WIRING DIAGRAM
Wiring diagram 3100-001 is described in publication E120E (issue 11/00) and includes:

POWER SUPPLY
The actuators offered are suitable for operation on a nominal supply of 400-3-50Hz.
ENCLOSURE
We base our offer on:
Enclosure certified for IP68 (Double Sealed) - NON-HAZARDOUS.
Please advise, giving details, if the actuators are required for use in a hazardous area so we may re-quote accordingly.
COMMENTS
2

The IQ/IQT actuator electrical enclosure is fully O-ring sealed and complies with the specification for IP68. The electrical
enclosure does not breathe as a result and since there is no reason to remove the actuator electrical cover either during or
after commissioning, there will be no change of air inside the electrical compartment and therefore no moisture will be
introduced. The heat generated by the integral transformers and associated components will also tend to maintain the
internal atmosphere of the actuator above dew point so that any water vapour included in the actuator electrical enclosure
when it was last fitted, will remain above dew point.

Four latching volt-free contacts, S1, S2, S3 and S4, are provided, each independently configurable using the supplied IQ
Setting Tool to signal one of the following:
* Valve Position - fully open, fully closed or intermediate positions (0-99% open)
* Status - valve opening, closing, moving (continuous or pulsing signal), local stop selected, local selected, remote selected,
open or close interlock active, ESD active
* Valve Alarms - motor tripped on torque in mid travel, motor tripped on torque going open, going closed, valve jammed,
actuator being operated by handwheel
* Actuator alarms - lost phase, customer 24V DC (120V AC) supply lost, battery low, internal failure detected, thermostat
tripped
Each contact can be configured to either 'normally open' or 'normally closed' and rated at 5mA to 5A, 120V AC, 30V DC.
An additional four contacts (S5 to S8) are available and have been included.

Regret gaskets are not in our scope of supply.

We assume that cable glands will be supplied by the cabling contractor and we have not included these in our quotation.

We will supply a commissioning spares bag free of charge with every Rotork actuator dispatched to make good losses on
site. This will include terminal cover screws and O-rings, with barrel nuts and washers for power and control terminals.
