Andhra Pradesh CM inaugurated temporary


Secretariat complex in Amaravati
On 25 April 2016 Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N
Chandrababu Naidu formally inaugurated the state's interim
government complex at Velagapudi village in capital region
Amaravati.
A 2000 square feet office space was hurriedly readied for use
by the state government and Chief Minister occupied his office
to mark the inauguration.
He signed a file relating to waiver of loan for horticulture
farmers on the occasion.

He also announced that an additional 50 square yards of land


would be given to farmers of the region who parted with their
lands under the Land Pooling Scheme for the development of
the capital.

World Cup, giving India its first skeet medal
On 25 April 2016 Mairaj Ahmed Khan won silver medal for India
in the men's skeet event at ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.
Mairaj gave India its first skeet medal at a World Cup.

Mairaj qualified for his maiden Olympics in September 2015 at


the ISSF Shotgun World Cup, held in Lonato in Italy, finishing in
sixth place and thereby becoming the first Indian to qualify in
the skeet event at the Olympics.

Wrestler Sandeep Tomar qualified for Rio


Olympics
On 24 April 2016 Wrestler Sandeep Tomar secured an Olympic
quota place for India in the men's 57kg freestyle category with
a bronze medal finish on the final day of the 1st World Olympic
qualifying tournament at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

The 25-year-old Sandeep became the fourth Indian wrestler


after Yogeshwar Dutt (men's 65kg freestyle), Narsingh Yadav
(men's 74kg freestyle), and Hardeep Singh (Greco-Roman
98kg) to book a berth for the Rio Games.

World Immunization Week 2016 organised


World Immunization Week 2016 is being organised between 24
April and 30 April 2016 across the globe. The weeks campaign
is Close the Immunization Gap.
It seeks to achieve global vaccination targets by 2020 and also
to draw the worlds attention to the critical importance of
reaching vulnerable people living in conflict situations or in the
wake of emergencies.
This will be the second year of the campaign.
The week is organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO)
with an aim to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of
all ages against disease.

During this week, WHO will highlight the recent gains in


immunization coverage, and outlines further steps needed to
meet global vaccination targets by 2020 set in WHOs Global
Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP).

Union Government notified new rules to

reconstruct SC and ST (Prevention of


Atrocities) Act, 2016
On 14 April 2016 Union Government notified the Scheduled Castes (SC) and the
Scheduled Tribes (ST) (Prevention of Atrocities (PoA)) Amendment Rules,
2016.
The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment notified new rules to
give effect to amended Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of
Atrocities) Act, 1989. These rules will speed up the process of dispensation of
justice to victims of atrocities.

Provisions are as follows;


Completion of investigation and filing of charge sheet in the court within sixty
days.
Provision of relief for offences of rape and gang rape.
Requirement of medical examination for getting relief amount for noninvasive kind of offences against women has been delinked.
Relief in cash or in kind or both must be provided within seven days to the
victims of atrocity, their family members and dependents.
Regular Reviews of the scheme for the rights and entitlements of victims and
witnesses in accessing justice.

Rafael Nadal won Barcelona Open Men's


singles title
On 24 April 2016 Rafael Nadal won Barcelona Open Men's singles title.
He defeated Kei Nishikori of Japan in the final match to win the
Barcelona Open title of tennis.
It was Nadal's 9th Barcelona Open title, and he has now won his
opening 10 matches of the European clay-court season. With this
victory, Nadal has equalled Guillermo Vilas decades old record of 49
clay-court titles.

Bryan Brothers, Bob and Mike won Barcelona


Open Men's Doubles title
On 24 April 2016 Bob and Mike Bryan won the Barcelona Open
doubles tennis title. The brothers claimed the title after defeating
Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas and the Spaniard Marcel Granollers.
The title is the Bryan brothers' second title in 2016, after they won the
U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston, Texas. The victory
is their third in Barcelona.

Mladenovic won womens doubles final of the Stuttgart Grand
Prix tournament, held in Germany.
The French duo defeated the Indo-Swiss pair of Sania Mirza
and Martina Hingis.

Operation Sulaimani: an initiative to eradicate


Poverty
Operation Sulaimani is an initiative to eradicate poverty by feeding
needy in Kozhikode District. It was initiated by the Kozhikode district
collector N Prasanth with an objective to avoid food wastage in the
district.
Operation Sulaimani was in news in the third week of April 2016 as
Kozhikode district is set to implement this project to ensure food for
the needy in its jurisdiction.
The project is named after Sulaimani, as the Kozhikode is famous for
food and Sulaimani is one of such iconic items of the district.
Operation Sulaimani is being implemented in association with the
state Hotel and Restaurants Association.

The needy will get food from selected restaurants in the district in
each locality. Instead of payment, the customers have to give coupons
distributed by the district administration. The price of the food will be
covered through sponsorship.
