English Languange Application

In Geology

English languange is an international languange that is commonly used in many

countries. Several countries use english language as official language, such as England, USA,
Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. But, there are many countries use english language as a
secondary language. So that, we can communicate each other by english language, however
we cant speak their official language. English language divided into two types, there are
America and British, The difference in both of there is pronounciation and vocabulary.
Many application english in sciences study. One of them is geology. Geology is
science study that many people dont know. In study case, when we talk about geology, many
people dont know prety well how geology is. Geology is applicative in a whole world, we
must use international language so there is no misunderstanding could happen.
There are some english application that we could us as a geologists. They are :
1. Literature
Most of geology literature use aenglish language, because the author use english
as a native language and they want their literature will be understood by people in
a whole world. For example, the literatures that use english are Sedimentology

and Principles of Stratigrapghy by Sam Boggs, Introduction Stratigraphy by

Kottlowski, Geology in the field by M Tucker, etc.
2. Paper
If we publish paper about geology, usually the conforences that organized from
other contry. So we have to use english in our paper because we are going to
explain our paper in front of audience from different dountries. The paper that we
submit will be patented by the organizer who orgnize the paper conference.
3. Terms
Many geologic terms originally from english language. So if we translate them
into Indonesian languange, we will be confused about the terms. Such as fault,
dune-antidune, joint, etc. So, english is very useful for this study.
4. Company
If we are a geologist and interested to work in company that focus to energy,
mining, engineering and environment, so we are recommended to understand
english in daily activites. Because most of the company owners from foreign. So
that, they recommend to all of job applicants who want to work to the company
have to use english very well, and their english skill will be tested when they face
the interview. After they have been accepted to work in that company, they will
often deal with foreigners, either when they working in the lab or in the field.
5. Studying abroad
Most of the students in Indonesia want to continues master level studying abroad.
And english language skill is very needed by them if thery want to continue the
study. So if we want to know about how much of our english communication skill,
they have to take the TOEFL or IELTS test that are considered for studying
abroad..
We know how really important english is for geology. In general, such as for
literature, paper conference, terms in geology, working in company, and Also for studying
abroad. Actually, english language is very useful, not only for geology but also other science
study. Basicly, for communication with all people in the world to discuss about science or
other. So, we as students who want to be geologist candidate and we want to work in some
company especially work for foreign company, we have to understand english language very
well.
