Standard Statement: With modeling and support, use a combination of
drawing, dictating and emergent writing to tell a story, to express ideas,
and to share information about an experience or topic of interest.

Children will be using classroom touchscreen computers to create stories of


their own imaging using littlebirdtales.com. Two teachers will provide
support during this experience. The purpose of this activity is to foster
creativity, build language and share literacy with peers and the preschool
community.

The story creating activity will take place during free choice time in the
mornings. Free choice takes place during 10:45am to 11:30am. The process
will take place over a month. Children will be allowed the time they need
and want to work on this experience. Max time when engaged and motived
30 minutes. Minimum amount of time when not interested in activity but it
is that childs turn 10-15min. Young children should be free to choose their
interests and allow peers to the same.

What preparation is needed?

Have working and the correct amount of touchscreen computers available


for student use. Prepare students beforehand during group story and
discussion times.
What materials will be used?

Classroom computers and littlebirdtales.com


How will the learning environment be set up?

In the Technology center; a decent circular table with the 4 touchscreen computers.

Instructional Procedures:
Teachers will create and have a clipboard list of students. Students will partake in the
activity in order listed. The story creating activity will take place during free choice time
in the mornings. Free choice takes place during 10:45am to 11:30am. The activity will
take place over a month.
Week 1 for each child:
Introductory activity- Students will explore the website and the features that we will be
using to create stories. Children will title their story. They will be drawing pictures for
their stories. Children will be recording their voices and their ideas. They will shave their
work.
Week 2 for each child:
Children will continue to work on their stories.
Week 3 for each child:
Children begin their editing their work.
Week 4 for each child:
Children will share their stories with class.

Differentiated Instructional Support: Describe how instruction can be differentiated


(changed or altered) to meet the needs of gifted or accelerated students:
For this activity children will only be using the draw option for their story illustrations. For
those exceling and wanting or needing a challenge; they will be supported using
galleries and the upload options for images for their stories. Children will use photos
they have taken themselves with a digital camera or search on the web for images they
need to tell their stories.
Discuss additional activities you could do to meet the needs of students who might be
struggling with the material:
Should children be experiencing difficulties during this process invite them to use paper,
crayons, markers, and color pencils to tell their stories. Teacher will record/write down
children words. At a later time with child, have them take pictures of their work using
digital camera to upload to website.
