This type of drawing is necessary for the construction
of buildings and as reference for
contractors in meeting the specifications.
Architects and draftsman are responsible
for preparing building drawing

A plan drawing shows an area of a building


seen from the top of horizontal plane. There
are four types of plans, namely
Location plan
Site plan
Floor plan
Roof plan

1. Location Plan

Shows the location of a proposed construction site.


In this plan several informations related to construction
site are stated such as street names, lot numbers, adjacent
buildings, main road and compass direction.
Usually drawn without scale

2. Site Plan

The area and location of a building on construction can


be viewed clearly on a site plan.
The proposed building is shown in form of a roof plan
The informations included in site plan are the lot
numbers, construction site dimensions, location of
proposed construction site, entry road, septic tank and
nearby areas.
Can help contractors to determine the appropriate
working area, construction material storage, workers
quarters and site office.
Site plan usually drawn using scale 1:200.

3. Floor Plan

A floor plan is sectional view of a building through a


horizontal cutting plane.
For multi-storey buildings, each storey has its own floor
plan.
A floor plan shows the section in a building and standard
symbols for windows, doors, walls and other details.
Roof lines are also included in a floor plan.
The scales usually used in floor plans are 1:50, 1:100 and
1:200.

4. Roof Plan

Roof plan describes the shape of roof, its dimension and


inclination viewed from the top view.
Roof components such as ridge, valley, hip. Gutter and roof
tiles are shown in roof plan.
The normally used scales in roof plan are 1:50, 1:100 and
1:200

VIEW DRAWING

The drawing of a building exterior viewed from


the front, back, right side and left side.
Elevation view is seen horizontally in the form of
an orthographic drawing.
Details in an elevation include columns, walls,
doors, windows and roof.
The normally used scales are 1:50, 1:100 and
1:200.

SECTIONAL DRAWING

Logout

Shows the cross-sections of a building and other details.


A vertical cutting plane cuts top of the building to the
ground through the roof, columns, floor, footing, windows
and doors.
Based on the floor plan using standard symbols.
The information in a sectional drawing includes height,
coponent sizes, and construction materials specification.

Sectional drawing of a single-storey house

DETAILED DRAWING

Shows building parts such as windows, doors, roofs and stairs.


The information in detailed drawing include shape, name and
size of each material used in the parts.
Normally drawn in form of orthographic or sectional and
isometric drawing.
The scales used in detailed drawings are 1:50, 1:20, 1:10 and
1:2.
