Dear Brother McFarland:

I am in receipt of your form letter and statement

sent to all missionaries through their forwarding agents

concerning the costs of engravings for the Missionary Prayer

Calander and Calanders ordered by missionaries.

according to your statement we owe Mission Services

|750yfor engravings which check has been forwarded by

Ira^^eWelt, our forwarding agent. However if you will

check your records you will find that I paid for the

engravings for the Calander with a check dated July 21, 1952
and sent to you at the same time we submitted our pictures.
We thought from you^'previous advertising that this was
the procedure you desired.

Mr. and Mrs. Herget and Mr-and Mrs. Fream also paid
for their engravings at the time of sending the desired
pictures and have also been billed for them a second time.
However their forwarding agents did not go ahead and
submit a second check in payment.

We hope the matter can be.cleared by your previous

records. Please accept the second' check (dated in Dec.

from Mrs, De'Welt) as a gift for iie excellent services
you are rendering for the cause ofslndependent Direct

Support Missions. We only wrot^ofN^he matter that you

might correct any duplication or billings that may be
made to others also.

Our prayers attend you as you continue to serve

our Master in such a fine manner.

We are happy to say that our work in Jamaica is

progressing daliy and thankful also for the many prayers

that have aided in my recovery that I can again assume
my full share of work in this field.

Beloved Co-vrorkers for Christ,

WE ARE THANKFUL for your love and help in the vrork

THE DARK SHADOW of another heart attack has a^ain fallen

now, and has not used the oxygen tank since yesterday,

He needs your prayers.

WE ARE CARRYING- ON with the work. Tuesday evening we

are continuing with our women's classes, where I teach

Ihllipplans. Thursday evening Carol Herget and I are

beginning a women's class at the Elletson Road church,
am enjoying my new work as Bible School Superintendent

at that church, and am glad to report a steady increase

in attendance each Sunday, As soon as Woodrow is able,
he plans to carry on his classes by means of tape

Our tentative plans are for a year from this April.

Wlllerniej Minn,
Dear Brother McFarland:

Thanks for your recent letter and your new contribution card
enclosed. Also thanks for the latest. "Directory of Christian
Missions." Two corrections are needed under No, 19 JAMICA

2. James and Carol Herget (Box 162 Elizabethton, Tenn.) Not
First

Christian Church,

In the March 21st issue of the Christian Standard, Just re

ceived by us, you have an item concerning Brother and Sister
Cliford Edwards, native workers here in Jamaica, Brother Mc
Farland, with all our hearts/we believe Bro. Sdvrards has a right
to advertise in any manner that he sees fit,
but we do object to
anyone other than missionaries directly associated with the
JAMAICA CHRISTIAN MISSION acivertising under that name. The only

foreign address for the JAI^ICA CHRISTIAN MISSION is HALF-VIAY-TREE

P.O. Jamaica, B.W.I. We wish you would make a correction of this
recent advertisment on behilf of Bro. Edwards.

The address of

the Jamaica Christian Missi^on is not Ewarton P.O. and Brother and
Sister Edwards are not missionaries directly associated with the

mission, but rather native [workers in their own land, even as

there are many other native workers in Jamaica.

Bro. Clifford is a good worker.

He helps us in our Seminary

in two classes and preaches'amcjng the native churches, performing

baptisms and weddings for many \f them. We are all behind him in
every way and do not wany anyoneN/bo misconstrue this letter to the
contrary. However, since the entire advertising effort, respon
sibilities, aid to native leaders etc. is paid by monies sent to
the three missionary families\listed under the JAMAICA Gt-:RISTIAN

MISSION we feel it is unfair for Bro^ Edwards to advertise under

that name since he bears none df the] expenses or responsibilities
involved. The Jamaica Cliristian Mission, of which Donald Fream
is trustee, provides Bro. Edwards ^use entirely free of cost to
himself, paying all taxes etc. on>fthe property where he lives, and
we have upon occasion aided him in^other ways. We will continue
to do so and will work in closest c^p^ration,_-but jaise cannot allow
anyone other than those missionaries directly associated together
and aiding in the financial burdens to use the name JAMAICA
CHRISTIAN MISSION.

it is for the new child of God and for his

The question comes to our minds about a

Do we have time for a

Many young people would gladly lay down

their lives for the Master. In the days

The day that a young person becomes a
Christian is a happy day for him. He is
full of determination to follow the Lord

and to live a consecrated life. Many times

he starts out giving his testimony to the

world and lives a wonderful example to his

comes and tries to destro]'' him, first by
tempting him to small things that lead away from the church and then finally by
destroying his Christian life altogether,

THE POV/ER OF THE GOSPEL

The message of the risen Saviour and His church is still winning
men for Christ in Jamaica. During the first six months of this year th
ere were 785 confessions of faith in the churches of Christ in this is
land, Yet v/e must sadly report that of this number only 239 were bapt

came into fellowship with the churches of Christ.
SENIOR BANQUET

The last Friday of July the five graduating seniors of the Jamaica
Bible Seminary were the guests of honor at a student-faculty banquet.
The banquet, a Jamaican feast of curried goat and rice, boiled green ba
nanas, and avocado and lettuce salad
was spread on long tables in the en
trance hall of the newly completed
Seminary building. During the meal,
the Seniors and teachers gave expre
ssions of appreciation and farewell,
and afterwards the Seniors presented
a short play. These five young men

BACK IN THE BUSH

July and August have been the time for district rallies. We loaded
up the car to overflo\d.ng v/ith Bible School literature, used clothing
and ourselves and set out each Sunday to teach, preach, praise, and pray
among the native churches. Woodrow has taught t\d.ce each afternoon
ing these rallies and has preached every evening, Marjorie has held
women's classes at each rally. Your prayers to the Lord have given
Woodrow strength for this labor of love. Over 1000 native Christians
have sacrificed of their tiny incomes to make the trips to attend these
rallies,
SUMMER SLUMP

There has not been a slump in souls won or in hours of labor, but
a decided decrease in our Income.

Perhaps you can help us to complete

our obligations for this season of the year. Pray about it, and if you
can, become our partner with the Lord to reap His harvest in Jamaica.
THANKS

To all of you who have so faithfully remembered us in your prayers,

with your letter^ and with your gifts. Thanks be to God wlio has given
us strength for everyday. Good-by for now, and may our God bless you

Jamaica, its people, and our worl^ here for Christ.

We have <come

to love the work, and leaving is difficult, but v/e feel it is

necessary for us to return to the United States for a few months
at this time. Our co-v/crkers, Donald and Maxine Fream, have

returned from their furlough, and are again taking over their part
of the work.

UR PLANS

We are planning to begin visiting among the churches

in the middle of December and to remain in the States until next

Summer. V/e ask you to pray that we may travel in safety and be
Jt;? return to our Jamaica work before Fall of 1954,

:^^^HYSICAL
NEEDS It is necessary for me to visit a medical
^Clinic and have a complete check-up and a few minor ailments
remedied before returning to the field. Marjorie needs a rest
and change for a few months. She also plans to malce further
preparation for beginning a Christian Day School when we return.
Our children hardly remember their Homeland. We v/ant them to
get re-acquainted with their grandparents. Patty and Woody will
be attending school.

^^n^fiATERIAL NECESSITY
V/e thank God for the many brethren who have
A/^upplied our every need while \fe have been in Jamaica, and we
^ trust that you vrill continue to aid us v/hile \ie are on furlough,
and after our return. Please do not think that our responsibilities
or obligations end because we take these fex-r months off from the
work on the field. We are anxious to Interest others in Christ's

work among Jamaica's needy people who neud the gospel.

We bring greetings to you from the King

of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding
all things by the vjord of His power, when He had by Himself purged
our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Magesty on High."

The churches have received us

for future work in Jamaica.

Mrs. Phillips will enter San Diego State College for the

The last service

I held in Jamaica made us know that these folks do appreciate

missionary service. From their meager income the young people

presented both Mrs. Phillips and myself with gifts and all of
our Seminary students made the Journey to the airport to bid us
goodby.

The members of Calvary church where we held our last

service wept openly and prayed earnestly for safety of Journey

and a quick return. We wept too. The farewell service was an

hour of victory also as two women confessed Christ as Saviour
when the invitation was given.

In the three years we have spent in Jamaica almost 2000 people

have been baptized into Christ;

The divided churches have

been reunited into one body to our Lord's glory;
