carefully if the following quantities are positive or negative:(i) Work done by a
mass in lifting a bucket out of a well by means of a rope tied to the bucket.(ii)
Work done by gravitational force in the above case.(iii) Work done by friction on a
body sliding down an inclined plane.(iv) Work done by an applied force on a body
moving on a rough horizontal plane with uniform velocity.(v) Work done by the
resistive force of air on a vibrating pendulum in bringing it to rest.

speed of 27 kmh-1 on a frictionless track. After a while sand starts leaking out of
a hole on the trolleys floor at the rate of 0.05 kgs-1. What is the speed of the
trolley after the entire sand bag is empty?

straight line, the balls simply exchange their velocities. (inelastic collision)
Prove that in elastic collision the relative velocity vector before collision and after
collision reverses its direction?
Show that mechanical energy is conserved in case of conservative force. How
expression changes in case of non conservative forces.
Two bodies of masses m1 and m2 have the same linear momentum. What is the
ratio of their kinetic energies?
A truck and a car moving with the same kinetic energy are brought to rest by the
application of brakes, which provide equal retardation. Which one of them will
come to rest in a shorter distance?
Will water at the foot of the waterfall be at a different temperature from that at
the top? If yes, explain.
The momentum of an object is doubled. How does it's. K.E. change?
If the linear momentum of a body increases by 20%, what will be the % increase
in the kinetic energy of the body?

Comets move around the sun in highly elliptical orbits. The gravitational
force on the comet due to the sun is not normal to the comets velocity in
general. Yet the work done by the gravitational force over every complete
orbit of the comet is zero. Why?
(c) An artificial satellite orbiting the earth in very thin atmosphere loses its
energy gradually due to dissipation against atmospheric resistance,
however small. Why then does its speed increase progressively as it comes
closer and closer to the earth?
State the principle of conservation of energy. Define kinetic and potential energy.
Prove it for the freely falling body.
Two blocks of masses m1, m2 are connected by light spring on a smooth
horizontal surface. The two masses are pulled apart and then released. Prove that
the ratio of their acceleration is inversely proportional to their masses.

energy stored in a system of a block attached to a mass-less spring, when the
block is pulled from its equilibrium position.
Show that force of spring in spring mass system is conservative. (Take friction
between the surface and mass as zero.)

object of mass 0.6kg moving in same direction with a velocity of 2m/s. If the
collision is perfectly inelastic, what is the loss of K.E. due to impact?
Two ball bearings of mass m each moving in the opposite directions with equal
