MOTIVATIONAL EFFICACY ANALYSIS OF

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES
A CASE STUDY OF TRIPURA*

ABSTRACT
This is a case on the effectiveness of Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDPs) that are being
conducted in Tripura by the various Central Government institutions, State Government institutions, and
Non-Government institutions like Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Institute (MSMEDI) (formerly, Small Industries Service Institute (SISI)), Entrepreneurship Development Institute of Tripura
(EDIT), Swavalamban Training Institute (STI), North Eastern Industrial Consultants Limited (NECON),
N. B. Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT), and Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE). The findings
of the study transpires that the motivational efficacy of on-going EDPs are insignificant and thus these
institutions are virtually failing to promote the young minds to embrace entrepreneurship as career by choice
due to lack of motivational dimension in the course curriculum of EDPs. Finally, in the light of the
observations and findings made in the study, certain recommendations have been offered to reinforce the
EDPs for improving its capability to influence the participants through increasing achievement motivation
among them.

Pedagogical Objectives
Entrepreneurship is an old but living concept due to the economic value of the term. Realizing the importance
of entrepreneurship for national economic growth, a large number of EDPs are being conducted every year
through out the country for motivating young minds to accelerate entrepreneurial activities in India. The
same is equally true in case of Tripura also. But different research work divulges that the success rate of such
EDPs in terms of starting the business enterprises by the trainees on attending the EDP is very much
dissatisfying. Although a number of factors may be attributed as to the causes of such failure of EDPs. But
the present study aims at to enquire whether such failure is attributable to the lack of achievement motivational
dynamics in EDPs or not. The present study has been undertaken with an objective to examine the influence
of EDPs in developing achievement motivation among the potential entrepreneurs of Tripura. So the learning
objectives of this study may be considered to understand the reality of EDPs that are being conducted in
Tripura in particular, find the existing gap in these EDPs and to provide suitable solution to bridge such gap
for national importance.
