Lesson: Unit 10: In a week
Textbook: Set Sail
Type of lesson: Acquisition of knowledge- teaching vocabulary, revision of previously learnt
notions.
Skills: Listening, Writing, Reading
Objectives:
1. To learn and practice the vocabulary related to the days of the week.
2. To remember the forms and the uses of Present Tense Simple.
3. To practice the Present Tense Simple.
Teaching aids: textbook (Set Sail 3), notebooks, blackboard, handouts, C.D. , C.D. player.
Assessment: oral, systematic observation, homework.

CONTENTS
Activity 1- Warm up
Objective: To create a pleasant atmosphere for learning.
Time: 2 minutes
Activity/class organisation: The teacher greets the class and introduces herself than she checks
attendance.
Activity 2- Check up the homework
Objective: To find out students` difficulties in doing the homework and give them feed back.
Time: 8 minutes
Activity/class organisation: Teacher asks the students to open their notebooks and show the
homework. The teacher checks the homework.

Activity 3: Lead in
Objective: To make students aware of the items they will learn.
To motivate students.
Time: 5 minutes
Context: The beginning of the last unit in the book.
Activity/class organisation: The teacher asks the students to listen to a song (ex 1 page 76).
Then she asks them to guess the subject of the new lesson and to write on their notebooks the
title of the new lesson (In a week) and the seven days of the week.
Resources: textbook, notebooks, blackboard, C.D., C.D. player.
Language: Ss newly acquired knowledge.
Anticipated problems: Ss may be unable to guess the subject of the new lesson. The C.D.
player may not be heard by all the students.

Activity 4: Practice
Objective: To practice the new vocabulary.
Time: 12 minutes
Context: Ss newly acquired knowledge.
Activity/class organisation: The teacher asks the students to work in pairs in order to make
some exercises from the handouts. After finishing the teacher corrects them together with the
students.
Resources: handouts.
Language: vocabulary related to the topic.
Anticipated problems: Ss may not be able to solve correctly the tasks in the required time.

Activity 5: Listening
Objective: To develop listening skills.
Time: 3 minutes
Context: Students previous knowledge.
Activity/class organisation: The teacher asks the students to look at the images they have in the
textbook and try to guess what the text is about. Then she asks them to listen to the text and
follow the sentences in the book.
Resources: C.D., C.D. player, textbook.
Language: all and any
Anticipated problems: Students may not hear properly the C.D. player.
Activity 6: Reading
Objective: To develop reading skills.
Time: 7 minutes
Context: Students previous knowledge.
Activity/class organisation: The teacher asks the students to look at the text again and read it
aloud, in pairs. She translates the unknown words and asks the students to translate the text.
Resources: textbook, notebooks, blackboard.
Language: all and any.
Anticipated problems: Students may not read correctly the new words.
Activity 7: Revision
Objective: To remember the forms and uses of Present Tense Simple.
Time: 10 minutes
Context: Students previous knowledge.
Activity/class organisation: The teacher asks the students to pay attention to some sentences in
the text and then she asks them to remember the rules for making sentences using Present Tense
Simple. After that she asks them to make some exercises with this tense.
Resources: textbook, notebooks, blackboard.
Language: all and any.

Anticipated problems: Students may not remember the affirmative form of Present Tense
Simple.

Activity 8: Giving the homework


Objective: To practice the new vocabulary.
Time: 3 minutes
Context: The end of the English class.
Activity/class organisation The teacher assigns the homework by giving clear instructions.
Then she congratulates them and rewards good feedback.
Resources: textbooks/ handouts.
Language: all and any
Anticipated problems: Ss may not understand clearly what they have to do at home.
