Jackson Written Response Directions

Essential Question: Based on your research, would you vote for Jackson if he were
running for a third term?
First Paragraph: You want to give your reader a brief background (3 sentences) on your
topic. You dont want to give away the whole story in the introduction, but enough so the
reader has an idea of what your topic is. Finish the introduction with your thesis
statement (main assertion)American citizens should/should not vote for Jackson
because of the way he handled the(insert topic). In doing this, he(insert
assertions) . Notice, with this thesis, you can beak it up into two sentences. You
decide how many assertions you need (can be 2 or 3). The number of assertions will
determine how many body paragraphs you will have.
Second Paragraph: In your second paragraph, you want to give your reader a more
detailed account of your topic as it relates to your first assertion.
Third Paragraph (first assertion): You will be using the AXES format. You will
definitely need evidence to back up your assertion. In this case, your evidence
(examples, quotes) wont necessarily be direct quotes with quotation marks. It will
probably be information you researched from some website that you have paraphrased
(put into your own words). If you are quoting a historian or website, word for word, then
you will need quotation marks.
Fourth paragraph: In your fourth paragraph, you want to give your reader a more
detailed account of your topic as it relates to your second assertion.

Last paragraph: Your conclusion should be 4-5 sentences. You should begin by
restating your thesis, but dont write the same exact thesis. You should follow this by
restating your most important arguments and driving home the fact youre right.
**Citing your information: The reader has to able to verify that the factual information
you are presenting is accurate. To do this, you will provide the reader with footnotes;
youll let the reader know where all of your information came from. Every time you use
information that you researched, you will insert a footnote. The only times you will not
have to cite information is when you write an original ideasomething you came up with
on your own. The first thing you will have to do is create a works cited page. Once you
have this, will simply have to copy and paste the information into your paper every time
you insert a footnote.
