Lesson Plan

Group: Beginners 3
1. Goals of the 4 hour-session: To work on qucik scamming and
comprehension questions as well as mentioning achievements of some
famous people, such as heroes in the world.
2. Materials for the session: CD from the Read and think! Book, Small
flashcards, sheets.
3. Procedure:
Warm up:
Objective: To make ss use facial expressions and body language to show
something or someone they would like to in fornt of other people. The teacher
will ask ss to think of an animal, and they will have one minute to think how
would that animal move. When teachers says Animal types join, the ss will
have to look for another student that had thought the same animal. This can be
identified through the facial expressions as well as the body`s. Students wont
have to talk, but moving imitating the animal and making its sounds. When the
group of similar animals are made 5 minutes, each group will have to make a
short introduction of the animal and describe it physically.
Materials and equipment: The ones that ss consider correct to show their
animal.
Time: 10 minutes approximately
Task 1:
To make a quick skimming of a text read and make
complementary comprehension text activities.
Objective: To make students remember the general idea of the text read last
class, as well as completting easy comprehension exercises.
Materials and equipment: Read and Think! Book.
Time: 30-40 minutes
Step /stage 1: Students will be asked to give general ideas of the text read last
class, if they can remember it. Some keywords given by the students will be
written on the board.

Step 2/ stage 2: Students will have to read the text read last class The new
comic book in 3 to 5 minutes maximum. Then, more keywords will be
mentioned by students and written on the board. Using those words, ss will be
asked to make a short abstract of the text using the words written on the
board.
Step/stage 3: After the texts are made, ss will go to page 24 and complete
exercise B (filling in the missing letters to find a secret word) and choosing the
best answer (8 questions).
** There will be a Break activity of about 10- 13 minutes, in which the
teacher will make some movements, saying some parts of the body,
however, the students will have to observe carefully the teacher and
imitate her. Sometimes the part of the body said will not be the
correct one, thus, sometimes they will be changed and students will
have to pay attention and touch the part changed by the teacher.
Task 2: To encourage ss to show their feelings or thoughts about
somebody with the help of a reading.
Objective: To make ss express themselves about someone they admire with a
variety of definitions and sentences with the help of a reading.
Time: 48-60 minutes
Step /stage 1: Students will be asked to think about a person they admire or
they consider a hero. They will have to write his/her name on a sheet, and they
will have to write what makes her/him a hero. The answers will not be revealed
and they will keep the sheet for themselves.
Step 2/ stage 2: The CD will be played, and ss will have to pay attention to the
listening, especially the opinion of the writer related to a hero. This will be
played twice or three times. The last time the track will be played, ss will have
to write words they understand. If possible, they will write full sentences.
Step/stage 3: The teacher will ask ss which is the opinion and possible
definition the author gives to the word hero, and, according to that, ss can
mention examples of Colombian or International heroes that have saved lives
and freed people from suffering. These will be written on the board.
Step/stage 4: The people written on the board will be written on papers, and, in
groups of 2 or 3 students, they will choose a paper. They will have to prepare a
small presentation of this considered hero, saying the things he/she has made
and why they are considered heroes.
** There will be a break activity, in which students will form a circle,
and think about a movement. Each person will make a movement, and
each one of these movements will be added, thus, they will have to
memorize them, and the one that does not make the correct

movement, goes out, till one of the ss is left, considered the one with
the best memory.
Task 3: To express personal thoughts about somebody orally.
Objective:
topic.

To share thoughts and ideas students have about the heroes

Time: 50-52 minutes


Step /stage 1: If the presentations cant be finished in the second stage, the
ones that are left will be finished. A votation will be made, and, in a piece of
paper, ss will vote for the best hero in Colombia (they will have to choose from
the ones presented by their partners). Students will have to skim the text
listened and it will be read aloud by ss. They will have to mark the sentences
that have to do with the authors opinion about heroes, especially the definition
given in the text.
Step 2/ stage 2: According to the text, the marked sentences will be said by ss,
and some general explanations about the text will be given.
Step/stage 3: Ss will be asked to take out the sheet of paper worked at the
beginning of the class, and will have to look for another student they barely
know from the course. They will have to show their hero to his/her partner and
tell the reasons that make him/her a hero. (They will have to think about it
again, because some ss would have though that heroes are only the ones that
have superpowers).
