OBJECTIVE:
1. To enhance image data visualization
IN THIS MANUAL YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
Able to:

1. analyze different enhancement technique


2. identify the distinction between object features

STEP:
STEP 1: FAMILIARIZE WITH ENHANCEMENT TECHNIQUE

Click the New Project button on the toolbar.


From the File menu, click Open.
The File Selection window opens.
Click the Focus on PCI Geomatica > open image.pix
Load the add layer wizard and select Band 5 in Red, Band 4 in Green
and Band 3 in Blue.
6. From the Layer menu, select Histogram > Multi histogram display
> click at the peak value > Histogram with statistic will appear.
7. Close the image.

STEP 2: APPLYING IMAGE ENHANCEMENTS

1. In the Focus toolbar, click the Enhancements arrow and select None
Enhancement.
The image is displayed without an enhancement.
2. From the Layer menu, select Histogram > Multi histogram display
> click at the peak value > Histogram with statistic will appear.
3. Close the image.
4. Repeat Step by using others enhancement.
STEP 3: ADJUSTING IMAGE CONTRAST AND BRIGHTNESS
To increase the image contrast:
On tool bar, click the Contrasts button and select Increase. Click 5
times to Increase image contrast.
You can see a change in your image contrast each time you click the
Contrast Buttons. You can also choose Reset to return to the original
level.
To decrease the image contrast:
On the tool bar, click the Contrast arrow and select Decrease. Click 5
times to decrease image contrast.
To increase the image brightness:
On the Raster toolbar, click the Brightness button and select Increase.
Click 5 times to decrease image brightness.

You can see a change in your image brightness each time you click the
Brightness Buttons. You can also choose Reset to return to the original
level.
To decrease the image brightness:
On the Raster toolbar, click the Brightness button and select Decrease.
Click 5 times to decrease image brightness.

Practical Highlights:

Describe type of enhancement that provided in software used.

Justify the importance of applying image enhancement by referring


your results.

Observe the changes before and after enhancement by indicating the


feature distinction in the image and print screens the image.

Explain the changes before and after apply enhancement based on


gray level in histogram

Highlight the differences of applying enhancement and adjusting


image contrast on image
