THREE PHASES IN THE PURSUIT OF

VISION
Isaiah 40
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the
Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his
understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with
wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

There are three phases in the pursuit of any vision according to Isaiah 40:31
i.
ii.
iii.

The phase of walking

The phase of running
The Phase of flying (mounting up)

The common denominator for all the three phases is the strength required to successfully
pursue your vision while in a particular phase. There are challenges associated with each
phase, but once you have the required strength, you are sure to succeed.
God is the only source of the strength required for the success of your vision. He is the one
that renews your strength for the pursuit of vision. But there is a way to access strength from
God, and that is waiting upon Him.
Lets look carefully at the three phases and their characteristics and how to access the
required strength from God.
The Three Phases
i.

The Phase of Walking

they shall walk, and not faint.

The word walk here means to go. This is the beginning of the journey. Its a phase
where you are just starting the pursuit of your vision. It is when you have already caught
and understood your vision, you have set up everything and you are ready for a go.
It is a phase that is very slow. Things are not moving as fast as you could expect. You may
mistake and think that you are pursuing a wrong thing, because sometimes you may not
see the fruits that match your efforts.
Oftentimes people faint and abandon their visions and dreams in this phase. They lose
strength and hope for success. The Bible says the youths shall faint meaning that it is

very easy to faint while in this stage. But the good news is that they that wait upon the
LORD shall renew their strength they shall walk, and not faint
ii.

The Phase of Running

they shall run, and not be weary

Run here means to move quickly or to run swiftly. If you successfully endure the
walking phase, then what follows is the running phase. This is the moment when you start
seeing light coming forth from your pursuit. If its a business you are running and you
were getting just a little profit, then this is the moment when you start seeing customers
lining up in your business and the profit rises suddenly.
As a result, you gain more hope, and this motivates you to multiply your efforts in
pursuing your vision. You start opening more branches, gaining partners, employing
workers and putting all your efforts and investment in your vision. You get excited and
gain confidence in pursuing your vision.
The major challenge with this phase is that, having put all your efforts in your vision, you
may find yourself labouring too much until you begin to get weary; that is, you begin to
toil, get exhausted and begin to gasp. Your vision begins to be your source of concern and
anxiety.
If you have a family, you may find yourself denying your wife/husband and children the
time they deserve. This is because your dreams begins to gain colour and popularity, and
you want to make sure that the business keeps expanding, the church keeps growing and
you want to maximise the profit and fruits as much as possible. As a result, you vision
begins to affect negatively other areas of your life such as your family, relations, friends
and even your relationship with God.
Much strength is required in this stage; both physical, mental and spiritual. Physical
strength for putting your efforts in pursuing your vision, mental strength for good
planning and management of your vision, and spiritual strength for wisdom and divine
connectivity for the continuous success of your vision. That is why, the Bible says But
they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength they shall run, and not be
weary

iii.

The Phase of Flying

they shall mount up with wings as eagles

To mount up means to ascend, to go up to spring up or to be exalted. This is a
very wonderful phase. Its a phase where you have become an experienced personnel in
your area. You have established your vision and it is speaking very loud. You have
become a high flyer. You gain entrance anywhere without much effort.
You are not scared by the challenges, but the challenges becomes the source of your rising
higher. Just as an eagle, you become influential and someone who cannot be ignored
globally.

In this phase, people look up to you for counselling, mentoring and support. You are well
established to the extent that even in your absence, the vision keeps on flying, nothing
dies at your absence.
