Brochure
Description:

This project was made to represent a travel brochure to an unusual

vacation location.

Programs Used:

Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator

Date:

March 27, 2016

Course # & Section: Visual Media 130: 14

Instructor: Jason Stucki
Objective:

To create an appealing and informative brochure.

Fonts:

Lucinda Calligraphy - Serif

Franklin Gothic Book - Sans Serif - 12 pt

Process:

I made a gateway opening in the front that leads to a pop-up interior.

The castle towers are cut out from the main page.
I created the logo from a combination of InDesign and Illustrator. The
photographs were adapted, trimmed, and overlapped using techniques
in Photoshop. Using InDesign, I placed a castle brick background and
placed the images of the parchment and the photos on the appropriate
layers. I wrote the body copy in Microsoft Word and transferred it to
InDesign, wrapping it around the images.

Business Card
Description:

This project is a stationery and business card for Wildlife Rescue and
Rehabilitation.

Programs Used:

Adobe InDesign

Date:

February 28, 2016

Course # & Section: Visual Media 130: 14

Instructor: Jason Stucki
Objective:

To create an informative and appealing business card.

Fonts:

Name & Title: Minion Pro at 10 pt

Slogan: Minion Pro at 10 pt

Process:

Since the organization handles the rescuing of all types of wild animals, I chose
a raccoon as their image. Raccoon are among the most commonly rehabilitated
wild animals. This particular image was traced from a similar image found
online using InDesigns pen tool and fill process. I chose the Monochrome
Green color scheme to represent the animals natural environment. Using
this color scheme, I selected a strong font for the name of the organization and
surrounded the raccoon head with it. I used a small drop shadow for emphasis.
I designed the back of the business card with the image of the raccoon as a
watermark. On the front, I inserted the logo in the upper left corner. I set the
specialists name and title in the upper right using a strong font. The lower right
has the organizations other information. I added the organizations motto to the
lower left of the business card to round things out. Using the same fonts across
the board helps to create a unifying feel towards their stationery needs.

Objective:

To create an informative and appealing business card.

Fonts:

Arial at 16 pt, 10 pt

Process:

Since the organization handles the rescuing of all types of wild animals, I

chose the Monochrome Green color scheme to represent the animals
natural environment. Using this color scheme, I selected a strong font
for the name of the organization and surrounded the raccoon head with
it. I used a small drop shadow for emphasis. This logo becomes the
focal point of the stationery.
I next designed the stationery using the same logo in the upper left hand
corner. I placed the name of the organization and the address just to
the right of the logo with the phone number and email address on the far
right. I used a green double line to separate the heading from the writing
section of the stationery. I added a green banner on the bottom that has
the organizations website centered. I added a watermark of the raccoon
head in the lower right corner at a 15% opacity and running off the page.
It is dark enough to be seen, but light enough to type over it without any
interference.

Web Page
Description:

I created a webpage for the fictional client I used for the logo project to
display my ability to create a logo and a webpage. I enjoyed the coding of
this project, and I was pleased when both my HTML and my CSS codes
validated the first time.
I chose to use the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation logo as my example.
I did a little tweaking on the logo in that I stretched the top wording just a
bit and shrunk the drop shadow to more of an emphasis.

Programs Used:

Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Notepad++, Chrome

Date:

March 12, 2016

Course # & Section: Visual Media 130: 14

Instructor: Jason Stucki
Objective:

Introduction of using a Web Page as a display or advertising.

Fonts:

Title Font: Minion Pro - Serif

Copy Font: Bookman Old Style Serif

Process:

As mentioned below, the raccoon head was traced with the pen tool in
Adobe InDesign. The lettering and drop shadow was added afterwards. I
chose the green to represent the wooded areas where most wild animals
would reside.
I used Notepad ++ to edit the HTML and CSS coding. I edited several
aspects of the supplied coding include the background color and image,
the border around the main section of the web page, the coloring of the
text, and the link to this blog. The background image helps to reinforce the
message of the organization as well as presents a harmonious contrast
with the white and green backgrounds of the message block.

Logos
Description:

This logo is for Dave Hill & Company Entertainment. The company does
Magic performances and/or DJing for virtually any occasion.

Programs Used:

Adobe Illustrator

Date:

February 20, 2016

Course # & Section: Visual Media 130: 14

Instructor: Jason Stucki
Objective:

Learn to use Illustrator to design Logos for companies.

Fonts:

Lucinda Handwriting Italics (a Sans Serif).

Franklin Gothic Book (also Sans Serif)

Process:

Dave Hill and Company is an organization that does Magic performances

and DJs for various events. I chose to use their red and black color
scheme for one logo and the cards for another. I incorporated a magic
wand into both designs. The owner often abbreviates the company
as DHC. Adding the identification of what the company does inside
the magic wand helps the readers eyes to flow down towards the
Entertainment category. The simplicity of the design means it can be used
virtually anywhere: a business card, a logo on equipment, an identification
on a vehicle, etc.

Montage
Description:

For our spiritual montage, I chose to illustrate some of our pets that have
passed on with the Lord Jesus Christ. I used the photo of Jesus with the
sheep by Greg Olsen. I chose the scriptures in D&C 77 and Moses 3 to
help emphasize the belief that animals also have spirits, were created
spiritually before the world was, and will also return to God.

Programs Used:

Adobe Photoshop

Date:

February 13, 2016

Course # & Section: Visual Media 130: 14

Instructor: Jason Stucki
Objective:
To learn masking and opacity to blend photos together.

Fonts:

Title Font Name & Category: Bodoni MT Serif

Copy Font Name & Category: Arial Sans Serif

Process:

I obtained a copy of the painting Lost No More from Bro. Olsens

website. Using Paintshop Pro, I edited out the sheep in the foreground
and touched up the Saviors robes. I used Photoshop to mask the
original jpeg and set up the basis for the montage using levels, gray
scale, opacity brush, etc. Each animal was added as his/her own layer.
I used the masking tool and brush to paint away the excess photo,
leaving just the animal in the placement I wanted. I softened the brush
and the opacity to blend the edges into the background, thus giving the
impression that the animal is in the presence of Christ. The placement
of the animals helped create repetition in the design and unity between
the animals and Christ. I used a light forest green paint behind the
saying and citation of the scriptures to help them stand out a bit more
from the background. I chose red for the saying and citations to match
the Saviors shawl. Finally, I flattened the layers and saved the photo as
a jpeg.

Event Ad
Description:

I produced a flyer to advertise a competition event to raise funds for

the Dreamers Field Horse Rescue and Adoption Association (a fictional
organization).

Programs Used:

Microsoft Word

Date:

January 31, 2016

Course # & Section: Visual Media 130: 14

Instructor: Jason Stucki
Objective:

To show an effective and inexpensive way to create advertising.

Fonts:

Title Font Name & Category: Bodoni MT Black Modern

Copy Font Name & Category: Arial Rounded Sans Serif

Process:

The process encompassed two steps: scanning and designing. I used

Paint Shop Pro 7 to scan the image of the jumping horse and rider and
the Draft horses. I used 300 dpi with a magazine filter to capture the
clearest possible image. As I adjusted the image, I lowered the size of
the image and increased the ppi. This helped the keep the clarity of the
photo. Next I set about designing the photo in Microsoft Word 2016.
With a combination of text boxes, I laid out the basic design. I imported
the two images, setting the larger of two to the back and the smaller in
the middle. The banner with the date, time, and place was brought to the
top with a transparency setting at 50%. I used the fill tools for the coloring
and chose fonts that would be bold enough to read from a distance.

Flyer
Description:

This flyer shows the basics of design for a flyer advertising a conference
for graduating seniors.

Programs Used:

Adobe Indesign

Date:

January 24, 2016

Course # & Section: Visual Media 130: 14

Instructor: Jason Stucki
Objective:

To show an understand of basic FOCUS principles by creating an

esthetically unified product.

Fonts:

Title Font Name & Category: Minion Pro Serif font

Copy Font Name & Category: Arial Sans Serif

Process:

I used Adobes InDesign to create a legible and interesting flier to

advertise for this conference. The photo, logo, and the copy were
provided by the client, although I
took the liberty of correcting some
spelling and punctuation errors. Using a simple block style and Z
reading format, I designed the flier to be a quick and to-the-point ad. I
combined the white lettering with the black stripes for definitive contrast.
The small blocks with the gray lines are placed above and below the
copy to help direct the viewers eyesight across the page and to create
a little repetition. While different fonts, I sized the introductory line and
the Date-Time-Place to be the same size for some consistency in the text.
Even though the photo is evident, it is the large GRADUATE that catches
the initial focus, with the black lines and boxes leading the viewer
through the flier.

Photo Design
Description:

I chose to design an empowering flyer reminding the reader that it takes

work to get better at anything. I used the photo of my Cub Scout Jayden
on the Rock Wall as an example. The saying at the top are the words to
help encourage others to keep trying.

Programs Used:

Adobe Photoshop

Date:

February 6, 2016

Course # & Section: Visual Media 130: 14

Instructor: Jason Stucki
Objective:

To introduce photographs into the design of flyers, cards, invitations, etc.

Fonts:

Title Font Name & Category: Algerian Decorative

Copy Font Name & Category: Calibri Sans Serif

Process:

First, I began by running the photo through Photoshop. I cropped the

original down to focus more on the climber. I also used the color levels
and vibrance options to bring out the colors. I sharpened Jayden up
just a bit to make him clearer to see. The coloring of his clothing helped
Jayden stand out against the plainness of the rock wall.
Second, I chose a Split Complementary color scheme based off the
blue in the sky of the photo. Since each color needed to be represented
twice, and there is no gold in the photo, I chose to nest four circles
behind the photo to bring that out to the forefront. The brick bar at the
bottom brought about a stand for the photo to rest on as well as a good
background for the theme designation. I used the same color in the
saying as the upper frame.

Symmetry
Description:

This project was designed to display the concepts of Symmetry.

Programs Used:

Paint Shop Pro 7 for importing the scanned design into the computer.

Date: March 21, 2016

Course # & Section: Art 107-01
Instructor: Patty Bingham
Objective:

To create symmetrical design using a monochromatic or analgous color

scheme.

Process:

This piece was to display the focal point and subordinate points with the
background being the most desaturated portion of the design.
I chose the red monochromatic color scheme. After organizing the design,
I painted the background adding brush blots for texture. I cut and painted
each shape. After they dried, I glued them in place and used marker to draw
the vines connecting the pieces.

Atmospheric
Perspective
Description:

This project was designed to display the concepts of Atmospheric

Perspective.

Programs Used:

Paint Shop Pro 7for importing the scanned design into the computer.

Date: March 14, 2016

Course # & Section: Art 107-01
Instructor: Patty Bingham
Objective:

To create a design that demonstrates the color desaturation in Atmospheric

Perspective.

Process:

This piece was to display the way colors get lighter, less detailed, and more
desaturated the further into the distance they go.
I chose an analogous color scheme using various shapes to demonstrate the
objective. The close up shapes are more saturated. The shapes got lighter
as they retreated into the horizon. The mountains in the back are more of
dark shadows reflecting the sky.
I first organized the design before beginning the project. I cut each piece,
then painted it. Once it was dry, I glued the shapes onto the desaturated
blue background.
