Birthdates:
Birthdates by gender… both a pie chart for each gender and a stacked column (*note: this means 3 graphs- pie
chart male, Pie chart female and stacked column including both)
Gender:
By State- percentage by state: your choice of graph to best represent the data
By town within state… choose a graph to best represent the data (*note: this will be 3 graphs MA, NY, CT)
Birthplace
Optional: By town or city within state… choose graphs to best represent the data (* this could be a lot of
work... how would you set this up? How many states are represented in the data?)
Occupation
Sort occupations into logical categories- i.e. medical, business, construction, education, etc. in order to use this data

Grading:
A All requirements completed, all graphs are properly titled, axes labeled if needed, percentage or value if needed,
category name if needed, choice of graph helps show meaning of data.
B All but map requirements completed, all graphs are properly titled, axes labeled if needed, percentage or value
if needed, category name if needed, choice of graph helps show meaning of data
C All but map requirements completed, missing some titles or labels, choice of graph helps show meaning of data
D or below Not all basic requirements met, or choice of graph does not show meaning of data
Extra credit:
(a)What other graphs, charts or maps would make sense to make? What questions could you answer about this data
by using a graph? For example, how many people now live in the town where they were born? Make one more
graph, chart or map that is not listed as required and explain what the question is that your work answers.
(b) Is this survey data an accurate representation of our community? How could you prove your answer? Does a
survey or a poll provide an accurate sample of data? Explain. Is a survey sample different from a biological sample?
For maps- if you use Google maps- share the document, if you use one of the other mapping programs, share it thru
the program you used- make it public and email me the url.
